Confession and Forgiveness P: We gather in the name of the Father, +the Son, and the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. P: We know we are not perfect. We have sinned by not loving and trusting God with all our heart, all our mind, all our soul, and all our strength. We have sinned by not loving others as Christ loves us. Let us confess our sin, so God can create in us a fresh start, a new and clean heart. Heavenly Father, C: We confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed. We have thought better of ourselves than others. We have told lies and said hurtful things, acted in ways we wish we could take

back, and looked the other way when action was needed. In your mercy, O God, forgive us, repair the brokenness within us and between us for the sake of Jesus, Our Savior. Amen. P: In anyone in Christ, there is a new creation; everything old has passed away; everything has become new! In Christ you are a new creation: your sins are forgiven. This marks a new beginning for you. Be kind to one another, forgive one another as God in Christ has forgiven you. C: Amen. Gathering Hymn

Oh, That The Lord Would Guide My Ways…....#772

Oh, that the Lord would guide my ways to keep his

statutes still! Oh, that my God would grant me grace

to know and do his will!

Order my footsteps by your word and make my heart

sincere; let sin have no dominion, Lord, but keep my

conscience clear.

Assist my soul, too apt to stray, a stricter watch to

keep; and should I e'er forget your way, restore your

wand'ring sheep.

Make me to walk in your commands, 'tis a delightful

road; nor let my head or heart or hands offend against

my God.

Greeting and Prayer of the Day P: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. C: And also with you. P: Let us pray.O God our strength, without you we are weak and wayward creatures. Protect us

from all dangers that attack us from the outside, and cleanse us from all evil that arises from within ourselves, that we may be preserved through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

First Reading……………………....….Deuteronomy4:1-2, 6-9Psalm………………………………………………………...Psalm 151 LORD, who may dwell in your | tabernacle? Who may abide upon your | holy hill? 2 Those who lead a blameless life and do | what is right, who speak the truth | from their heart; 3 they do not slander with the tongue, they do no evil | to their friends; they do not cast discredit up- | on a neighbor. 4 In their sight the wicked are rejected, but they honor those who | fear the LORD. They have sworn upon their health and do not take | back their word.5 They do not give their money in hope of gain, nor do they take bribes a- | gainst the innocent. Those who do these things shall never be | overthrown.

Lord, I lift your name on high; Lord, I love to sing your praises. I’m so glad you’re in my life, I’m so glad you came to save us. You came from heaven to earth to show the way, from the earth to the cross, my debt to pay, from the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky; Lord, I lift your name on high.

Offering Prayer P: God of mercy and grace, C: The eyes of all look to you, and you open your hand in blessing. Thank you for the gifts we have received: our life, our abilities, all that we have. Receive our offering as a gesture of thanksgiving for the blessings you have given. Use what we have offered to help those in need. Lord, bless the meal we are about to receive, that we may be nourished in faith and strengthened for service. May our lives

Page 10: oslcwhitehall.orgoslcwhitehall.org/docs/August30BulletinLP.docx  · Web viewbecome new! In Christ you are a new creation: your. sins are forgiven. This marks a new beginning for

Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling, calling for you and

for me. See, on the portals he's waiting and watching,

watching for you and for me.

Refrain"Come home, (Come home,) come home! (come home!) You who are weary, come home."Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling, calling, "O sinner, come home!"

Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleading, pleading

for you and for me? Why should we linger and heed not

his mercies, mercies for you and for me? Refrain

Oh, for the wonderful love he has promised, promised for you and for me! Though we have sinned, he has mercy and pardon, pardon for you and for me. Refrain

Communion Hymn 2…………..Thy Holy Wings…….…..#613

Page 11: oslcwhitehall.orgoslcwhitehall.org/docs/August30BulletinLP.docx  · Web viewbecome new! In Christ you are a new creation: your. sins are forgiven. This marks a new beginning for

Thy holy wings, O Savior, spread gently over me,

and let me rest securely through good and ill in thee.

Oh, be my strength and portion, my rock and hiding

place, and let my ev'ry moment be lived within thy

grace.

Oh, let me nestle near thee, within thy downy breastwhere I will find sweet comfort and peace

within thy nest. Oh, close thy wings around me and

keep me safely there, for I am but a newborn and

need thy ender care.

Oh, wash me in the waters of Noah's cleansing flood.Give me a willing spirit, a heart both

clean and good.Oh, take into thy keeping thy children

great and small, and while we sweetly slumber, enfold us

one and all.

Communion Prayer P: Lord, we thank you that at your table you have fed us again with the food of everlasting life. Send us with your blessing to share your love with all in the name of Our Savior, Jesus Christ. C: Amen. Benediction

Sending Hymn………..…….Abide With Me…..…..…..…#629

Abide with me, fast falls the eventide. The darkness

deepens; Lord, with me abide. When other helpers fail

and comforts flee, help of the helpless, oh, abide with

me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day; earth's joys

grow dim, its glories pass away; change and decay in all

around I see; O thou who changest not,

Page 13: oslcwhitehall.orgoslcwhitehall.org/docs/August30BulletinLP.docx  · Web viewbecome new! In Christ you are a new creation: your. sins are forgiven. This marks a new beginning for

abide with me.

I need thy presence ev'ry passing hour; what but thy

grace can foil the tempter's pow'r? Who like thyself my

guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine,

oh, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with thee at hand to bless; ills have no

weight, and tears no bitterness. Where is death's sting?

Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if thou abide

with me!

Hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes, shine through the gloom, and point me to the skies; heav'n's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee; in life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

P: Go in peace. Share God’s Love with All! C: Thanks be to God!
