A truly global university for me is one where we all understand that international students, staff and activity are a core part of our day-to-day work and something that we think of as central to our identity and not as an ‘add on’. For me, this approach will allow us to deliver the best experience to our enquirers, applicants, students, staff and partners. 2. 1. What does a truly global university mean to you and your role on a daily basis?

A truly global university for me is one where we all understand that international students, staff and activity are a core part of our day-to-day work and something that we think of as central to our identity and not as an ‘add on’. For me, this approach will allow us to deliver the best experience to our enquirers, applicants, students, staff and partners.

2. Do you set an objective to contribute and uphold the principle of internationalisation at work?

Yes! The Student Experience Directorate is the home of our International Office which is the ‘engine room’ of much of our internationalisation effort and so supporting this team to thrive is key to internationalisation. Also, I am responsible for ensuring that we provide fit for purpose services that enable all of our students to thrive, this is key to ensuring international students are attracted to, and supported by, the University.

3. What is the one memorable experience that changed your perspective and determination to making University of Southampton more international?

I have had the privilege of travelling overseas on behalf of the University. Seeing our alumni, who are so proud of their achievements and who had such a great time with us, making a difference in the world really demonstrated what impact we can have globally.

4. What is the one thing that you would like to see in transforming our effort to being a truly global university?

I would like to see us develop more opportunities for students to get out into the world as part of their time with us, allowing them to develop better global understanding, alongside skills and experiences that will enable them to be successful in their futures in a global world.
