NSS ACTIVITIES FOR SESSION 2019- 2020

The main objective of National Service Scheme as envisaged originally was service to the community offered while undergoing instructions in an educational institution. The motto that is the watchword of the NSS is “NOT ME BUT YOU”. It underlines that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society as whole.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) of Government college of Commerce and Business Administration, sector comprises two units, (Boys & Girls), with two Programme Officiers, namely, Dr Manoj K Bhambhu and Dr Renuka Mehra. The unit consisted of 125 boys and 125 girls’ as NSS Volunteer’s. Dr Renuka Mehra, Assistant Professor in Management & Commerce was appointed as Programme Officer, by the then Principal, Dr. Manjit Kaur Brar, Dean, Mr. Amarpreet S. Sijher and Vice Principal, Dr. Bikramjit Kaur.

Dr Ajit Assistant Professor in Physical Education, was appointed as Programme Officer, Boy’s wing by Principal Ma’am Prof (Dr.) Nisha Aggarwal, Dean Mr Amarpreet S Sijher and Vice Principal Dr V Magesh on 01.04.2020. He has replaced Dr Manoj K Bhambu, Associate Prof. and PO for Boys, since 2015 (4 terms).

The following are the activities carried out during the current year April, 2019- April 2020.

1. 12.04.2019 Century tribute to Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

A talk was conducted by NSS unit in the college on Century tribute to Jallianwala Bagh massacre, Amritsar. In the talk 100 students had participated. The main aim of the talk was to make aware to the Youth about the history of Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The speaker for the day was, Research Fellow, Mr. Manpreet Singh. He also showed a movie to students to make them realise the real contribution by unsung heroes.

2. 13.04.2019 Panjab university visit on occasion of century tribute to Jallianwala Bagh massacre

NSS volunteers in count of 25 visited PU with the PO’S Officer where there was a cultural programme including, play, songs, poems and skit on the occasion. The Chief Guest for the event was Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr) Raj Kumar ji.

3. 15.04.2019 Oath taking ceremony, “Vote For India”, in college campus was held on Convocation cum Annual Prize Distribution day

On occasion of Annual Convocation and Prize Distribution an Oath on, “Vote Chandigarh on 19/05/2019” was taken but the students, prize winners and teachers of the college. The function was attended by 350 students.

4. 15.04.2019 Sign campaign , “Vote For India”, in college campus was held on Convocation cum Annual Prize Distribution day

On occasion of Annual Convocation and Prize Distribution a Sign campaign on, “Vote Chandigarh on 19/05/2019” was

taken but the students, prize winners and teachers of the college. The flex was signed by Chief Guest, Principal Madam, staff members and all students present. The aim of the activities were to aware everyone on Right and duty to Vote for General Elections.

5. 12.06.2019 Blood donation camp held in college premises

A blood donation camp was organized by NSS Unit of College in collaboration with Manns ,Kalsi & Sood Memorial Trust in college campus. Around 80 volunteers & staff member contributed for the noble cause.

6. 21.06.2019 International Yoga Day Celebration International Yoga Day was celebrated in college campus in which around 30 Senior citizens, Principal madam non –teaching staff, NSS PO’S and 50 students had participated in the vent. The trainer for the day was Dr. Arun Kapoor, Instructor, Government College for Yoga, Sector- 23, Chandigarh. He informed about the different asana and their benefits.

7. 01.07.2019 Swachh Bharat Summer Internship In the activity 35 NSS Volunteer’s devoted 150 hours towards Swachh Bharat campaign in the different villages in and around Chandigarh. The NSS Volunteer’s was divided into the group of 5 with the main task of making aware to be public and residents about, “ Swachh Bharat campaign 2019”.

8. 27.07.2019 Orientation & Selection of NSS volunteers by Programme officers for the Session 2019-2020

A orientation cum selection camp was taken up by PO’s for session 2019-2020. In the selection 125 Boy’s and 125 Girl’s NSS Volunteers was Enrolled in the NSS. Also, the NSS Volunteers were told about the Moto, Aim, and Mission of NSS. They were also given brief introduction about activities to be performed during the upcoming session.

9. 1.08.2019 Tree plantation drive in collaboration with Environment society, Avni

In collaboration Environment society, Avni, the NSS Unit of the college carried out a tree plantation drive in and outside college. They had planted 50 trees in the college campus.

10. 1.08-15 08.2019 Swachhta Pakhwara observation day’s The NSS Unit’s in city colleges has celebrated, “SWACHHTA Pakhwara Day’s”, for 15 days in college campus, adopted village Khajeri and at NSS Volunteer’s home.

The Principal of College, Dr Manjit Kaur Madam, declared the Swachhta Pakhwara open and also told about the do’s and don’ts for the event.

In the activity 120 NSS Volunteers participated.

Tree planation was done in the college campus by the volunteers.

Cleanness drive in the college campus by the NSS Volunteers.

Visited to the adopted village Khajeri where different activities was conducted like Swachhta Rally, cleanness drives, Awareness drive etc. was carried on in front of residents.

“Charity begins at home” cleanness drive was conducted by the NSS Volunteers at and near their home places, schools, parks and market areas.

11. 9.08.2019 Oath on Swachhta in college campus The Principal Madam, Dean Sir, Vice Principal Madam, staff members and 180 NSS volunteers took the Swachhta Oath to keep the country, “Clean and Green”.

12. 10.08.2019 “Ek Rakhi Jawan Ke Naam”, annual event of MY FM 94.3, radio channel of city, Chandigarh

The NSS Volunteers, had contribution money along with the college students for “Ek Rakhi Jawan ke Naam’, to MY FM 94.3 office and given to RJ Manav, in Sector 25, Chandigarh. The rakhi’s were further taken to Wagha Border, where they were tied by RJ Minakhshi.

13. 11.08.2019 Annual Hawan Hawan was organised in the college campus by the NSS PO’s and NSS Volunteer’s.

14. 15.08.2019 Independence day celebration Independence day celebration was done in the college campus by the NSS Volunteers with Principal Madam as Chief Guest for the occasion. The National Flag was hosted by the Principal mam. Also, the cultural items such as traditional songs, group dance and poem recitation was performed by the NSS Volunteer’s.

15. 20.08.2019 Sadhbhavana Diwas Principal Madam, Dean Sir, Vice Principal madam, PO’S, staff members, and NSS volunteers along with students took the Sadbhavana Diwas Oath.

16. 27.08.2019 Visit to Children Traffic Park, Sector 23, Chandigarh

Around 100 volunteers with the PO’s visited to children traffic park, sector 23, Chandīgarh for the seminar on the road

18. 1.09-30 09 .2019 “Poshan maah”, fight against Malnutrition and healthy maternal health was observed

The NSS Unit’s in city colleges has celebrated, “Poshan Maah”, for one month in college campus, adopted village Khajeri and at NSS Volunteer’s home.The following are the few activites-

Diet talk was conducted in the college campus Dietician, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, in which student was enlighten about the healthy eating habits and proper lifestyle.

Along with it, a “Sign campaign” was also conducted in the college campus where students and staff member pledged to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Human chain was formed in the college campus as well as at adopted village khajeri holding hand in hand and making aware to the people about the healthy lifestyle.

Poster making competition was conducted with the theme of healthy eating and proper diet in the college campus where 58 student participated.

A survey and rally was conducted in the adopted village khajeri regarding the malnutrition among the children and women’s.

19. 11.09.2019 Plastic free Chandigarh rally at sector 17 plaza

At Sector 17 Plaza, Chandigarh, 50 NSS volunteers along with PO’s took part in the rally for making Chandigarh, “Plastic Free”.

20. 14.09.2019 Water conservation – JAL HI JEEVAN HAI

Poster making & essay writing competition was conducted by the NSS unit in the college campus with the theme of save water, Water conservation – JAL HI JEEVAN HAI . In the 60 entries was received and later students were given best prizes.

21. 24.09.2019 50th NSS day celebration On the occasion of NSS day (50TH

anniversary) oath and a seminar was conducted in the college campus with the main aim of making NSS volunteers aware about the main Moto, Mission and Vision of

NSS.22. 2.10.2019 Rally – Plastic Free Chandigarh On the occasion On Ghandiji 150th Birth

anniversary at Open Hand Monument , sector 1 , Chandigarh a Plastic free rally was organised. The Chief Guest for the event was Governor Punjab, Vijayender Pal Singh Badnore  and other dignitaries. In the rally, along with two PO officer’s, 70 NSS Volunteers took part in the rally on plastic free Chandigarh initiated by the municipal corporation Chandigarh.

23. 8.10.2019 Sanitary pad distribution drive in collaboration with Jagriti, Gender sensitization society

In collaboration with Gender Sensitization society with NSS Unit of college conducted a sanitary pad distribution drive in the adopted village Khajeri. In the drive, 80 packets of sanitary pads were distributed to the young school girls and women at home.

24. 31.10.2019 Anti-cracker rally in collaboration with Avni, Environment Society

An anti cracker rally was conducted by the NSS and Environment society of the college with the theme of green Diwali in Sector - 50 , Chandīgarh which was flagged off by the Principal Madam with other senior members from the college campus.

25. 1.11.2019 Seminar on Women Hygiene in collaboration with Jagriti, Gender Sensitization Society

A seminar was conducted by the NSS unit and Jagriti society of the college, where 100 students participated. The students were made aware about the different health problems found in the women like breast, cervix & uterus cancer in fast moving World of today. The doctor’s team had arrived from MAX, Mumbai.

26. 7.11.2019 Sri Sukhmani Sahib Path with the theme of celebration of “550 birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji” & Community kitchen practice

Sri Sukhmani sahib path with the theme of celebration of “550 birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji” was conducted by the NSS unit of the college.And students also adopted the practice of community kitchen “Vand Chakko” and brought breads and paranthas which was further distributed in the Kusht Ashram sector 47, Chandīgarh.

27. 8.11.2019 Army Unit visit to Chandi Mandir Cantonment & visit to Sri Nada Sahib

Along with the 2 PO’S, 50 Volunteers visited to the Army Area Chandi Mandir Cantonment, where students were taught about the lifestyle of the soldiers and different equipment which are used by them during the war.And further day was ended by visit to Sri Nada Sahib Gurdwara Panchkula. This activity was in continuation of, “550 birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji”.

28. 11.11- 12.11.2019 Gurupurab celebration at college campus On the occasion of “550 birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji” college was lighten up by the diyas and candles at the evening. The candles and diyas were bought and lighten up by the Principal Madam, Dean Sir, Vice Principal, NSS PO Girl’s, staff and NSS volunteers in the evening of 11/11/2019.

29. 26.11.2019 Constitution day celebration & Ek bharat shreshtha bharat

The Chief Guest for the event was Principal Madam, and the PO’S enlighten and educated on, Duties of Citizens towards country on occasion of Constitution day celebration. They further discussed on topic of fundamental duties as well as the rights.

30. 27.11.2019 “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat”, movie showcased on tuning UT Dadar

Under the theme of, “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat”, Principal Madam, Dean Sir, and all staff members and PO Officer’s, 80 NSS Volunteers were shown a movie and documentary on the neighbouring UT that is Dadar.

31 28.11.2019 Formation of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” club.

Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat is a project undertaken by MHRD, India. The objective of this project is to celebrate the Unity in Diversity of our Nation and to maintain and strengthen the fabric of traditionally existing emotional bonds between the people of our Country.The club was formed with RUSA In charge & Dean Mr Amarpreet S. Sijher, Two Po’s Officer’s and 25 NSS Volunteer’s to carry activities relating to tuning state Daman and Dui till 31/03/2020 under the vision of Honourable Prime Minister Mr Narendar D Modi for Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” club. 33. 13.01.2020 NSS Girl’s took part in Scooter rally at Chandigarh Traffic Park

In the event 30 NSS Girl’s Volunteer participated in scooter rally organized by Traffic Police, near Chandigarh Traffic Park, Sector -23, Chandigarh.

34. 13.01.2020 Lohri celebration in college campus The celebration was done in college campus college students along with Principal Madam and all the staff members. On the eve camp fire was lit and students were distributed Popcorn, Gachack and peanuts. The DJ music was also played where

students enjoyed their dancing skills and sweet and sunny weather.

35. 14.01.2020 “Swachta Plastic free Rally” oath In college campus, the oath was taken by Principal ma’am, Dean Sir, PO’s along with all staff members and 200 NSS volunteers and students took part in the oath for making Campus, “Plastic Free India”.

37. 15.01.2020 Traffic Helmet awareness rally for Girls organised by Chandigarh Traffic Police in Sector -23, Chandigarh

The Chandigarh Traffic Police has organised Helmet awareness rally in Chandigarh Traffic Park, Sector-23, Chandigarh, where NSS Volunteer’s girls of the college has participated and got certificate of appreciation and gift voucher’s.

38. 16.01.2020 Polio training for upcoming camp from 19.01.2020

65 NSS Volunteer’s has taken part in Polio Abhiyan and training was providing to them by trained Doctor’s of PGI Team. They were also allocated with Sectors and locations for the 3 Day’s camp.

39. 17.01.2020 Debate on “Drink and Driving”, topic of Chandigarh Traffic Police held in Post Graduate Government College, sector -42, Chandigarh

40. 18.01.2020 “Fit India Movement” Event “Fit India Movement” event is an initiative by Health Ministry and on the day the students and staff members performed Yoga Asanas in College campus.

65 NSS Volunteer’s has taken part in Polio Abhiyan under the supervision of Doctors of PGI Team, namely Dr Atul. Dr Jitender and senior nurses They were allocated with Sectors and locations for the 3 Day’s camp where they have performed duties in Booth and for next two days visiting residents house. The students were provided with appreciation certificates and daily allowances.

42. 24.01.2020 Slogan writing competition and rally on topic, “Save Girl Child”, initiative by Girl & Child welfare

The event was organized by NSS Girl’s Volunteer’s and participants were NSS Volunteer’s boys and other boys of the college. They have prepared slogans in campus in 1 hour duration and later carried local rally in and around campus areas and spreads the message of “Gender Equality”.

43. 26.01.2020 Republic day celebration Republic day was celebrated in college campus with joint efforts of Cultural Coordinators and other societies of the college. The event began by fluring of Nation Flag, national anthem and other cultural performances by college students.

44 28.01.2020 Survey on Swachtta App by Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh Administration, Chandigarh

Mr Abhay Chaudhary along with his team in college campus made students aware of Swachhta App survey 2020. He guided them on usage of app also how to upload stories of Swachta and Litter with the location. In the event 100 students had participated.

45. 01.02.2020 Preparation of Blood and Organ donation day was made in college campus

68 NSS Volunteer’s were involved in preparation of Blood and Organ donation day to be held on 03.02.2020 in college campus. They were in various items such as cleaning, setting of room, refreshments and pasting of posters in marketplaces and crowded areas.

46. 03.02.2020 Blood donation Camp and Organ Awareness camp held in college campus collaboration with the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, State Bank of Indiaand Shri shiv kawad Mahasangh Trust, Panchkula.

The event was conducted in collaboration with the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, State Bank of Indiaand Shri shiv kawad Mahasangh Trust, Panchkula.The principal madam Prof(DR.) Mehra along with other staff members formally welcomed the team from PGI comprising of Doctors and assisting staff members and Shri Shiv Kawad Mahasangh Trust(NGO). The blood donation camp began at 9:30 am where NSS volunteers actively participated in managing as well as donating blood. The staff member’s along with donors from college and outside public donated blood for 45 Units.

2 NSS Volunteer’s participated in National integration camp in MCM DAV College for Women, Kangra.

2 NSS Volunteer’s, namely, Ms Muskan and Mr Jeevan S Babu participated in National integration camp in MCM DAV College for Women, Kangra. They won Second prize in Group dance among other NSS Volunteer’s from different Sates and UT’S of India.

48. 26.02.2020 Poster making and Rangoli Competition on the theme Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” club.

To commemorate this occasion, NSS Unit of GCCBA-50, Chandigarh conducted few activities within the college campus on 26th February,2020.

A poster making drive was conducted, the theme being Unity with Diversity. The students also formed a human chain while holding these posters in their hands.

Another event, which was the Rangoli making Competition was organised, the theme for which was “Unity with Diversity”.The competition saw participation from students of various classes. The Rangolis were judged by Dr. Bikramjit Kaur and winners for the 1st,2nd and 3rd position were declared.

Activities taken up by NSS Volunteer’s during COVID 19 with the theme QUARANTINE FUN TIMES!

NSS Volunteer’s conducted a small activity which has helped them to pass time and given a new area to explore!With the theme, QUARANTINE FUN TIMES!, The students send the in pictures and small videos relating to how they are passing the tough time at home.The theme was dance, self care, cartooning, and many more.The best won will be awarded merit certificate as college reopens. We have received entries for the above activities.

53 01.04.2020 Change of PO Boy’s officer The NSS PO Girls, along with all NSS Volunteer’s thanked Dr Manoj K Bhambu for being a pillar for NSS team since2015 onwards. Dr Ajit Singh was welcomed in the group by all.

NSS Volunteer’s are registering for igot.gov.in and Aarogya Setu application to make India COVID 19 free.

55. 08.04.2020 Slogan writing and Poster making competition on theme, “COVID 19 Awareness and Precautions” conducted through online college group.

A competition on Slogan writing and Poster making on theme, “COVID 19 Awareness and Precautions” conducted through online college group. 25 Volunteer’s participated for the event. Ms Devyani Bcom 2nd year was judged the best Poster maker and Ms Muskan Parmar and Ms Nikita Parmar for best Slogan making. The event was judged by NSS PO’S. They will be awarded certificates of Merit.

56. 13.04.2020 Movie presentation by club members of, “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat”, on the theme, “COVID 19 – STAY HOME STAY SAFE”.

The members of the club had made the video at their home and was edited by Mr. Nikhil, club member on the theme, “COVID 19 – STAY HOME STAY

SAFE”. The students put and excellent skills through use of Information and Communication technology in today’s time.

57. 15.04.2020 Webinar on, “ Awareness of Child sexual Abuse” under the Rakshin Project was conducted through Online mode for 57 NSS Volunteer’s along with PO’S (Boy’s & Girl’s)

NSS Unit conducted a webinar on Awareness on Child Sexual Abuse under Rakshin Project, by Sakshi NGO, New Delhi. 57 NSS Volunteer's participated in talk through Zoom app. The Volunteer's were briefed about different situations of Child abuse and ways they could safe themselves through videos , lecture and presentation.  The webinar was taken up by Ms Sanjukta Biswas and team The duration of the program was 2 hrs and 30 minutes. It had 3 stages comprising of Stage 1- Pre Assessment, Stage - 2- Webinar and question answer round and Stage -3 Feedback form online.

58. 16.04.2020 Movie presentation by NSS Volunteer’s, on the theme, “COVID 19 – CORONA HAREGA AUR INDIA JITHE GA”.

The Movie presentation by NSS Volunteer’s, on the theme, “COVID 19 – CORONA HAREGA AUR INDIA JITHE GA”. The students through Information and Communication technology gave valuable information on how to remain aware of precautionary measures for protection from infection and rely on authentic sources of news only. Mr Anurag scripted and edited the movie presentation. It took four days to complete the movie.

59. 17.04.2020 Webinar on, “ Awareness on COVID 19 Infection and tackling situation of Lockdown” by Dr Nikita Sharma, resident, PGI -12 Chandigarh, was conducted through Online mode for 40 NSS Volunteer’s along with PO’S (Boy’s & Girl’s)

The NSS Unit of our college conducted a webinar on Awareness of COVID-19 by Dr. Nikita Sharma from PGI, Chandigarh. NSS PO’S, Staff members and 40 students participated through a safe setting of Zoom application. The students were briefed about the virus from its origin to preventive measures. The webinar comprised mainly of 3 stages, namely, introduction, a PowerPoint presentation on the virus made by Dr Nikita and ended with a one on one session with the students for their queries. The presentation started off with how the virus originated in Wuhan and had a spill - over from animals like bats and cats to human beings. It included symptoms and modes on how one can get infected. She also told that there's a possibility that the disease could be airborne. The presentation was ended with preventive measures and how one can stay safe. The meeting was

about 1 hour 30 mins long and was followed by an online feedback from.

60 20.04.2020 Online Training on COVID 19 through Webex meet by NSS Officer’s and NSS Volunteer’s attended hosted by NSS Karnataka SLO and Doctor’s.

An Online Training on COVID 19 through Webex meet by NSS Officer’s and NSS Volunteer’s attended hosted by NSS Karnataka SLO and Doctor’s. The meeting was for 1 hr and 30 minutes and was attended by 18 NSS Volunteers who wants to serve the nation in this difficult time.
