Reading Activities Choose one of these activities to go alongside your reading book each day.
Fiction/Non-fiction
Take the title of your favourite book and create your own front cover for
the book. It doesn’t matter whether the book is fiction or non-fiction. Think about
the characters and the setting for a fiction book. If
you are creating a front cover for a non-fiction
book, make sure it is clear what the book is about. Either way, make sure
you include the title and author.
Fiction/Non-fiction
Read the blurb of any books you have at home. You will notice that it gives the reader an idea of what they can expect to find inside, but doesn’t give the best bits away! Write an alternative blurb for your favourite book. What would you mention that the author didn’t?
10 Word Stories
Read the stories written around 10 words. Can you
spot the 10 words?
You could ask an adult or a sibling to give you 10 words to write a story
about!

Vocabulary
Look up any words that are unfamiliar to you in a
dictionary. Use each word in its own sentence to
help you remember what it means.
Making links
Often we favour a certain type of book. Perhaps you are working your way through the David Walliams books, or Roald Dahl. Maybe you like reading books about animals.Whatever you enjoy, what do you notice about the books you have read? What are the similarities and differences? Talk to someone in your family. What do they like reading?
