INTRODUCTION
THE FIRST SERIES THE EUROPA SERIES
The new face of the euroEuropa, a gure from Greek mythology, is the new face of the euro.Her portrait appears in the hologram and the watermark of the secondseries of euro banknotes, which is called the Europa series. This incorporatesadvances in banknote technology and is even more secure than the rstseries. The new banknotes are to be introduced gradually over several years,in ascending order, starting with the 5 banknote in 2013 and the 10 as of23 September 2014. The rst series will remain legal tender and circulate
alongside the Europa series until further notice.

The back of the new 10There are security features on the back as well as on the front of the banknote.Please see the red boxes below.
Boxes 4 and 5 show microprint. Under a magnifying glass, these tiny letters aresharp, not blurred.
Box 6 shows the portrait watermark. It can be seen on both sides of the note.
In terms of design, the back depicts the same bridge an example ofRomanesque architecture as on the rst series.

Easy to check and difficult to counterfeit
With their enhanced security features, the new 10 banknotes are even more resistant to counterfeiting. And like the banknotes of the rst series, theyre easy to check. Just follow the Feel, Look and Tilt method.
Feel of the paper The banknote is crisp and rm.Raised print Feel the short raised lines on the left and right edges of the banknote. The main image, the lettering and the large value numeral also feel thicker.
Portrait watermark Look at the banknote against the light. A portrait of Europa, the value and a window become visible.Put the banknote on a dark surface and the light areas become darker.Security thread Look at the banknote against the light. The security thread appears as a dark line.
Emerald number Tilt the banknote. An effect of the light moves up and down the number. It also changes colour from emerald green to deep blue.Portrait hologram Tilt the banknote. A portrait of Europa, a window and the value appear in the silvery stripe.

THE EUROPA SERIES: CHECKING WITH TOOLS
Microprint on the new 10
Under infrared light
Some areas of the banknote show a series of tiny letters. This microprint canbe read with a magnifying glass. These letters are sharp, not blurred.
Under infrared light, on the front only the emerald number, the right side of the main image and the silvery stripe are visible. On the back of the banknote,only the value numeral and the horizontal serial number are visible.

The paper itself does not glow.A On the front, the stars in the ag, the small circles, the large stars and
several other areas glow yellow. Small bres appear in the paper.Each bre shows three colours.
B On the back, a quarter of a circle in the centre as well as several otherareas glow green. The horizontal serial number and a stripe appear in red.
