He said time has come to rethink our relationship with environment by looking for practical ways in harmonizing human activities with what the environment can sustain over the long run. The Chief Minister said this after planting deodar sapling under Sab- zar-wa-Shafaf (Green and Clean), an afforestation drive launched by Army’s 15 Corps here. With active support of children and local population, nearly 1300 deodars and 700 kail saplings will be planted to rejuvenate the forests under the plantation drive at Baltal. Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. CM Mufti Muhammad Sayed planting a sapling in Baltal. Nirmal Singh, Minister for Public Works, Floriculture, Gardens & Parks, Syed Altaf Bukhari, GoC, 15 Corps, Lt. Gen. Subrata Saha, Principal Secretary to Chief Minis- ter, B. B. Vyas and Deputy Commis- sioner, Ganderbal, Showkat Ejaz, were present on the occasion. Stressing upon people’s partici- pation in maintaining ecological balance, Mufti Sayeed directed the Forest Department to undertake reforestation drives on denuded forest lands in other parts of the State. “There is also an urgent need to make people cognizant about the significance of forests and protect- ing our rich biodiversity,” he stated, while indicating that the new Forest Policy will accord highest priority to environmental conservation. The Chief Minister also empha- sized upon the Forest Department to undertake awareness campaigns about ecological conservation so that we are able to save our treasures of nature for posterity. Stating that tourism, which remains a vital sector driving our economy, will remain subservient to environment, the Chief Minister laid emphasis upon the need to use sci- entific technologies in proper waste and sewage disposal. Under Sabzar-wa-Shafaf, planta- tion drives have been undertaken at Lolab (Kupwara), Ganderbal, Ban- dipora and Baltal to achieve a target of planting 5,000 new saplings this season. Mufti Sayeed also distributed prizes amongst students who partici- pated in a painting competition orga- nized as part of the programme. He also gave away gifts amongst tribal population, who traverse the lofty hills shepherding their cattle. Later, the Chief Minister also vis- ited the Baltal Base Camp where he reviewed the arrangements made for the upcoming Shri Amarnathji Yatra. While briefing the Chief Minister, CEO, SASB, P. K. Tripathi informed that all basic arrangements, in par- ticular relating to health and accom- modation, for the yatris have been made at Baltal and Chandanwari base camps. He said the yatra tracks from both Baltal and Pahalgam sides to the Holy Cave are clear for the annual pilgrimage to begin on July 2. Special NDRF, SDRF and Moun- tain & Avalanche Rescue Teams are in place to meet any emergencies. A fully-equipped 40-bedded hospi- tal has also been established at the Base Camp to cater to the health- care needs of the pilgrims. Special arrangements have also been made for telecommunications and weather forecasting for the pilgrims during the yatra. The Chief Minister was informed that for environment protection, sanitation has been incorporated as the most important component of the management of the yatra. Ration distribution as per Census-2011 from next month Govt working out financial implications for additional food quota Srinagar, June 29: The State Gov- ernment is going to give rations to the consumers as per the Census 2011 from July 2015 onwards. This was stated by the Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Dis- tribution, Choudhary Zulfkar Ali, while chairing a meeting with the officers of CA&PD department con- vened to reconcile the requirement in tune with 2011-Census. Secretary CA&PD, Sourab Bhagat, Directors of CA&PD, Kashmir and Jammu, all Assistant Directors of CA&PD and other officers attended the meeting. The Minister directed both the Directors to ensure distribution of rations to the consumers accord- ing to the Census of 2011 from the month of July. He also asked them to ensure supply of rice to the con- sumers before Eid-ul-Fitr as per the latest verified list till new ration cards are issued. He said prepara- tion of ration cards is in the final stage and will be distributed among the consumers shortly. Ch. Zulfkar directed the Assis- tant Directors to submit the lists to respective Directors duly signed by the respective Deputy Commis- sioners immediately. He said any negligence in this regard will be viewed seriously. The Minister directed the con- cerned to work out the financial implications for additional food quota as per the Census of 2011 and submit the same to the concerned quarters immediately so that the recommenda- tions could be forwarded to the Food Corporation of India (FCI) for release of additional ration quota. The report will be released on July 1, 2015. The report- “Denied: Failures in account- ability for human rights violations by security force person- nel in Jammu and Kashmir”- documents the obstacles to justice faced in several cases of human rights violations believed to have been committed by secu- rity force personnel in Jammu and Kashmir, the statement said. Baltal, June 29: Reiterating his commitment to frame a new Forest Policy that will primarily focus on environmental conservation, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today described stemming the loss of biodiversity as one of the biggest challenges for the Government.

Amnesty to release Kashmir Report tomorrow
