In a game played Monday, Jan. 11 at Deerfield the Tribune Jr. High boys A team won 43-17. In a two quarter B game the Jackrabbits lost 9-12. In the A game Tribune dominated the Spartans in the first quarter for a 21- 0 lead. Bryson Bjorklund scored 6 first quarter points, Lincoln Shafer 5, Max Whitham and Eli Sherer 4 each and Jesus Chanez 2. Braxon Mangan led the second quarter scoring with two 3-pointers. With the game in control, all 12 payers saw action in the second half. “Our defense was working,” stated Tribune coach Kyle Shafer. “They didn’t score in the first quarter and only scored 2 points in the first half. We were not shooting well on offense and missed a lot of shots that we usually make. But we played well and were glad to get back on the court. With a month between games it was like starting over. “We were able to play 6 th graders in the 4 th quarter.” In the 2-quarter B game, Deerfield scored 12 first quarter points to lead 12-5 and held on to win 12-9. The Jr. High boys have a game scheduled with Weskan at home on Monday, Jan. 18. Jr. High A boys win at Deerfield The weather in Greeley County was dry and windy this past week. The Tribune weather station did not report any precipitation for the past week. The station has not recorded any precipitation for the first 18 days of January. The normal for the year-to-date is 0.25 inches. The National Weather Service precipitation maps did show 0.01 to .10 inches of precipitation for the past week mostly in the north- central and western sections of the county. The average wind speed for the past week in Greeley County was 6.8 mph with a high of 31.8 mph on Thursday, Jan. 14, and 38.8 mph on Friday. The gusts on Friday were over 60 mph. The wind gusts and blowing dust were so bad on Friday that the high school basketball games at Atwood were cancelled. The high temperatures for the past week rose from a high of 49º on Jan. 11 to a high of 67º on Wednesday, Jan 14, and then fell back to a high of 40º on Friday, Jan. 15. The average soil temperatures for the past week were 38º on Jan. 12 and Jan. 13, 36º on Jan. 14, 38º on Jan. 15, 34º on Jan. 16, 35º on Jan. 17, and 37º on Jan. 18. In a game played Monday, Jan. 11 at Deerfield the Tribune Jr. High boys A team won 43-17. In a two quarter B game the Jackrabbits lost 9-12.

In the A game Tribune dominated the Spartans in the first quarter for a 21-0 lead. Bryson Bjorklund scored 6 first quarter points, Lincoln Shafer 5, Max Whitham and Eli Sherer 4 each and Jesus Chanez 2.
