Weather

Weather--what the air is like at different times and places

Weather

Rains— water falls to the earth from the clouds

Weather

Drizzle– a light rain (a little bit of rain)

Weather

Warm– when the air is heated; not cold or not hot

Weather

Thunderstorm– a storm with thunder and lightening

Weather

Dangerous– likely to cause something bad or harmful to happen

Weather

Blizzard– a long snowstorm with strong cold wind filled with snow

Weather

Snow– soft, white flakes that fall from clouds when it is cold

Weather

Sleet-- icy mixture of rain and snow

Weather

Hurricane– storms with strong winds and heavy rain that form over the ocean

Weather

Tornado– a storm with strong winds that whirl and travel in a funnel-shaped dark cloud

Weather

Ground– the ground is made up of dirt and is the solid surface of the Earth

Weather

Ocean– a large body of salt water that covers most of the Earth’s surface

Flood– happens when a lot of water flows over normally dry land (this can happen when it rains a lot)

Whirl– to turn quickly in a circle

Government– a group of people who take care of the country

Shelter– something that covers or protects

Warn– to tell ahead of time

Sprinkle– a little rain

Pitter-patter– describes a sound of soft rain (such as a beating heart)

Hurly-burly– strong, louder rain

Sunset– happens every day when the sun disappears from view in the west

Meteorologist– a scientist who studies the weather

cold, sunny, dry, cloudy, rain, sleet, hail, windy, humid,

etc.)

Cirrus– a kind of thin, white cloud found high in the sky

Cumulus– a big, black cloud that holds a lot of water

Chilly– cool or a little cold

Thermometer– an instrument used to measure the temperature

Degrees– units used to measure temperature

Wind sock– a sleeve, open on both sides, used to measure wind direction

Desert– a hot, dry, sandy region or area

Mountains– masses of land that are high above the land that surround them

Rodents– animals with large front teeth that use their teeth for gnawing (such as squirrels, rats, mice, and beavers)

Frozen– made into ice, or covered with ice

Freeze– to become cold and hard

Blanket– a thick covering or layer

Hurricane– big storms with fast winds and heavy rain

Swirling– going around and around in a circle

Warning– a notice that danger is coming

Hour– 60 minutes (there are 24 hours in one day)

Eye– a part of your body that you use to see. It can also mean the center of something (such as the eye of a hurricane)
