Tournament Format• We will be following two league format for this tournament, Major and Minor League’s to

provide adequate play time for every team.

• The announced Cash Prize will be awarded to winner and runner-up teams of the Major League

• Trophies will be awarded to winner and runner-up teams of Minor League (No Cash Prize)

• Teams are divided into 4 groups with 6 teams in each group – Group A, Group B, Group C, Group D.

o Each team should play 2 to 3 matches in sand and 2 to 3 match in grass

o All the playoff matches will be played in sand courts (in case if we are short of time, some of the playoff games will be moved to grass courts)

• Round Robin Format:

o Each team play with rest of the 5 teams in its group.

o 1st and 2nd placed teams from each group progress to Major League Playoffs

o 3rd and 4th placed teams from each group progress to Minor League Playoffs

o 5th and 6th placed teams from each group eliminated from the tournament

o 3rd and 4th placed teams from Group A and B Play in Minor League Quarter Finals (A3 vs B4 and A4 vs B3). Winners of group A & B quarter final matches will play in Minor League Semi Finals

o Group C and D

o 3rd and 4th placed teams from Group C and D play in Minor League Quarter Finals (C3 vs D4 and C4 vs D3). Winners of group C & D quarter final matches will play in Minor League Semi Finals

o Winners of Semi Finals between Group A&B and Group C&D will play Minor League Finals

Group Rankings• After round robin level, Teams in each group will be ranked as

1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th with in their group based on below criteria:

1. Most wins from all played matches in group level

2. Winning margin from all matches (Winning Margin = Total points scored – Total points allowed)

3. Head to head win

4. Tie Breaker – Toss

• Teams will be positioned in the playoffs as per their ranking in group level

Tournament Rules•Points Scoring Method Rally points

•All matches will be refereed by neutral referees

•We will have one main referee, one second referee and 2 line umpires for each match.

•We will be following the rules from FIVB Rules book

•Keep playing till the referee awards a point. If you stop the play assuming that the other team committed a foul and if no foul was committed, you lose the point.

•The referee's decision is final.

Tournament Rules (Cont..)•Switching sides – • In group matches, teams will switch sides when one team reaches 9 points. • In quarter finals teams will switch sides when one team reaches 13 points• In the semis and finals, teams will switch sides only in the third set

•Each team is limited to six substitutions and 2 time outs per set.

•Tree Hit - If the ball hits the branches of the near by tree, then same team takes the ball and sends it across, it is a valid receive as long as the team has just played the ball in 3 tries. If the ball hits the tree branches & goes to the other team, it’s a lost point for the team which hit the ball to the tree.

•The team that won the toss should choose between server vs side.

• Players positions are not required to be rotated when team is doing their first serve of the set.

•Carry – continue playing after a carry. If the team that carries wins the point, it is a reserve. If the team that carries loses the point, they lose the point. Leave it to umpire to decide.

Difficult Rules Explained• Net Touch - A player may touch any portion of the net below the top

tape as long as he does not get an advantage out of it.

• Reaching Beyond The Net - A player's point of contact with the ball cannot be in the opponents area except for blocking purposes. 

• 10 Ft line cross - If a back row player spikes, his point of take off should be behind the 10 ft. He cannot touch the 10 ft. line before takeoff.

• Double Touch On First Contact - Double touch is allowed in the first contact of the team as long both touches are part of the same action.

• Middle Line Cross - If a player's foot completely crosses over into the opponent's court it is a foul. It is not a foul if some portion of the foot touches the line or is above the line and the player doesn't disturb the opponent's play. Any other portion of the body may touch the opponent's court.

Difficult Rules Explained

Libero•Libero is a defensive specialist who can play only in

the back row and should be designated as such before the start of the game.

•He can replace any player in the back row without mindful of the one on one substitution rule and such substitutions do not count. But the person whom he substituted can only come back to his original position.

• If a Libero were to set the ball with an over hand finger pass in the front zone, the spiker should not hit above the net in the front zone
