Fr. Ron’s Ramblings
A great big Thank You to our Portuguese parishioners for their very successful Malassada sale a couple of weekends ago. They realized an $800 profit for the parish. That money will be used to help finance the new walkway which was recently installed in the front of the rectory. It replaced two layers of broken concrete!!
On a sad note, this past week Dr. Jose Figueiredo, one of our Portuguese parishioners, died. Dr. Figueiredo was a long time parishioner who was a leader in the community and gave of himself to help the parish and many others. He was also the Portuguese representative on the Pastor’s Advisory Council. We will miss him, and pray for him and his wife Julia and their family.
Also on a more mundane note, it is time once again for our Grand Annual Collection. As you know, we depend upon your generosity each year at this time to augment our weekly offertory through this collection. Those on our mailing list should have received a letter, from me, along with the parish financial statement. I am most grateful for your ongoing support in the offertory collections; but we also need at least $50,000 in this appeal just to meet our operating costs. As you know, we have trimmed our expenses as much as possible at this time and we hope that you can find it in your hearts and in your budgets to be generous once again.
Thanksgiving Day is fast approaching and I find myself grateful for all of you and you support in so many ways. May God continue to bless you all and give you His love during these upcoming holidays!

Substituiu duas camadas partidas do cimento.

NOVEMBER IS DIABETES
AWARENESS MONTH
Early detection and treatment of diabetes can decrease the risk of developing the complications of diabetes. The following symptoms of diabetes are typical. However, some people with Type 2 diabetes have symptoms so mild that they go unnoticed. Common symptoms are urinating often, feeling very thirsty, feeling very hungry even though you are eating, extreme fatigue, blurry vision, cuts/bruises that are slow to heal, weight loss even though you are eating more and tingling, pain, or numbness in the hands and feet. There are several ways to diagnose diabetes, all of them are through blood glucose testing. There are several risk factors for Type 2 diabetes. They are being 45 or older, having a family history, being overweight, not exercising regularly, having high blood pressure, having low HDL, also known as “good” cholesterol and/or high levels of triglycerides, certain racial and ethnic Groups (Non-Hispanic Blacks, Hispanic/Latino Americans, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and American Indians and Alaska Natives). If you feel like you may have diabetes, speak with your doctor about getting tested. You can prevent or delay the onset of Type 2 diabetes through a healthy lifestyle. Change your diet, increase your level of physical activity, maintain a healthy weight…with these positive steps, you can stay healthier longer and reduce your risk of diabetes. For more information go to www.diabetes.org
The annual Christmas wreath sale will begin weekend of November
