Step Two: Look into Your Life

Question for Children: Name a time when you

shared what you had with a friend, or a classmate

at school.

Question for Youth: Martha chose to serve,

Mary chose to sit at Jesus' feet and listen to Him.

Of those two actions, service or prayer, which do

you feel more comfortable with? Why?

Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

July 17, 2016

Theme: Hospitality - We welcome Jesus in our

lives.

Breaking Open the Word: Suggested text for faith

sharing: Gospel.. Lk 10:38-42

There was a scholar of the law who stood up to test him

and said, "Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal

life?" Jesus said to him, "What is written in the law?

How do you read it?" He said in reply, "Y ou shall love

the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your

being, with all your strength, and with all your mind,

and your neighbor as yourself." He replied to him, "You

have answered correctly; do this and you will live."

But because he wished to justify himself, he said to

Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" Jesus replied, "A

man fell victim to robbers as he went down from Jeru-

salem to Jericho. They stripped and beat him and went

off leaving him half-dead. A priest happened to be go-

ing down that road, but when he saw him, he passed by

on the opposite side. Likewise a Levite came to the

place, and when he saw him, he passed by on the oppo-

site side. But a Samaritan traveler who came upon him

was moved with compassion at the sight. He ap-

proached the victim, poured oil and wine over his

wounds and bandaged them. Then he lifted him up on

his own animal, took him to an inn, and cared for him.

The next day he took out two silver coins and gave

them to the innkeeper with the instruction, 'Take care of

him. If you spend more than what I have given you, I

shall repay you on my way back. 'Which of these three,

in your opinion, was neighbor to the robbers' victim?"

He answered, "The one who treated him with mercy."

Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."

Step One: Listen to the Word: As you hear this

reading, what words or phrases strike you? What in this

reading touches your heart? What lingers in your

memory?

The Marist Brothers

Brother James McKnight, FMS, a Marist Brother, will be visiting us shortly. Below is a summary of how

they originated and the work they do.

The Marist Brothers of the Schools/Little Brothers of Mary were founded by a simple parish priest named

Marcellin Champagnat after he saw the dire need for providing Catholic education for young people living in

rural areas of France; Marcellin founded the Marist Brothers almost 200 years ago on January 2, 1817. The

Brothers are now reaching out to young people and trying to MAKE JESUS CHRIST KNOWN AND

LOVED in more than 80 different countr ies. On Apr il 18, 1999, Marcellin was canonized a saint by

Saint John Paul II.

WHAT’S HAPPENING AROUND OUR FACILITIES

You may have noticed coming into Church, that our doors were freshly painted. These are your dollars at

work. Thanks to Lenny Schmidt, Maintenance, our Church looks a bit brighter than before.

Thank you to the Town of Oyster Bay for answering our request for “No Parking” on one side of East

Nicholai St. We have been in negotiations with them for approximately two years. I want to particularly

thank Ron Scaglia, Coucilman Tony Macagnone of the Town of Oyster Bay and Legislator Rose Walker

for their help with this very important endeavor. Due to their efforts, we are all safer now than before.

God bless you.

May God bless you and Mary keep you and your families. May we remember to always do things for the greater

glory of God. In the year of the 125th Anniversary of our Church, St. Ignatius Loyola, pray for us!

Fr. Jim , Pastor

Stewardship Thought for the Week The good Samaritan was also a good STEWARD, giving his time and his treasure to meet his neighbor’s

need. At the end of this familiar story, Jesus urges his hearers -and us-to go and do the same.

Living Stewardship We are grateful this week for all STEWARDS who, like the good Samaritan, strive to make God’s mercy

visible in this world through their willingness to forgive and make sacrifices for a stranger.

STEWARDSHIP

Now that election time is only a couple of months away, below is an important prayer for all of us.

Dear Beloved God in Heaven,

Please give us a president that loves this country and everything it stands for.

Please give us a president who respects you as the one true God

Please give us a president who will, with your help, restore this nation to its former glory,

the way you created her.

Please help us to respect what you have given to us and not take anything for granted ever

again.

Please God, weaken the evil and strengthen the good, both within and without.

May our eyes be opened.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

In God we trust and we pray that GOD WILL BLESS AMERICA!!

Today’s readings speak of hospitality. Abraham,

who cheerfully did for his guests all that desert hospi-

tality required, was rewarded with his heart’s de-

sire—a son. Martha also busied herself with all the

details of hospitality, but grudgingly and with com-

plaint. Am I a cheerful or a grudging giver?

Boletín: 111

¿QUIÉN ES MI PRÓJIMO?

MUCHAS LECCIONES LES HA DADO NUESTRO SEÑOR A LOS FARISEOS, PERO NINGUNA TAN BELLA COMO ÉSTA. ES DE ESAS OCASIONES EN LAS QUE CRISTO DA A CONOCER SU DOCTRINA Y SU MANDAMIENTO A TODOS LOS HOMBRES, Y LO

HACE DE MANERA MUY VELADA.

AMAR AL PRÓJIMO NO ES MUY FÁCIL, PORQUE REQUIERE DO-NARSE A LOS DEMÁS, Y ESE DONARSE CUESTA, PORQUE NO A TODOS LOS TRATAMOS O QUEREMOS DE LA MISMA MANERA. POR ELLO TENEMOS QUE LOGRAR AMAR A TODOS POR IGUAL, SIN NINGUNA DISTINCIÓN. QUERERLOS A TODOS, SIN PREFE-

RIR A NADIE. ES DIFÍCIL MAS NO IMPOSIBLE.

DIOS NOS HA DADO EL EJEMPLO AL VIVIR SU PROPIA DOCTRI-NA: "NO HAY AMOR MÁS GRANDE QUE EL QUE DA LA VIDA POR SUS AMIGOS", PERO ÉL NO LA DIO SOLO POR SUS AMIGOS, SINO TAMBIÉN POR SUS ENEMIGOS, Y MUCHOS SANTOS HAN

HECHO LO MISMO.

AMEMOS A NUESTRO PRÓJIMO COMO CRISTO NOS AMÓ, HAS-TA EL PUNTO DE DAR SU PROPIA VIDA. CON ESTE EJEMPLO DE JESÚS, ¿NOSOTROS SEREMOS CAPACES DE PENSAR BIEN DE LOS DEMÁS Y DE HACERLOS FELICES CON PALABRAS Y CO-

MENTARIOS POSITIVOS?

MISA DOMINGOS 7:00pm. Invita un amigo,

PRAY FOR OUR MILITARY

Anyone with a family member serving in the military,

please forward their name and rank to our bulletin editor

at [email protected] or bring the name to our Rec-

tory Front Office. We pray to give all of our soldiers the

courage and strength to do the duty that is required of

them. May they always remember our appreciation for

the sacrifice they are making for us. We are thankful

for the men and women who are willing to risk their

lives to protect our freedom. I ask You to go with each

of them and protect them wherever they go. Amen.
