Steve Pauken - City of Winslow

Steve Pauken, City Manager for the City of Winslow, is also an am-ateur astronomer and enjoys sharing his knowledge of the night sky with others. When he and his wife Peggy moved to Arizona in 2006, its extraordinary dark skies reinvigorated his life-long interest in astronomy. Robert Petrillo Joins Woodson

Woodson is pleased to announce that Robert (Bob) Petrillo, P.E., A.A.E. has joined our Engineering Department as Senior Project Man-ager. Bob brings over 40 years of diverse experience to our team. He has worked on infrastructure pro-

Results of Client Survey

In early 2016 we sent out our first client survey to those of you who had projects we completed in 2015. We had a response rate of about 25%. We would like to extend a huge thank you to those that re-sponded. Since the survey was anonymous, we don't know who you are but we greatly appreciate your help. By giving us your honest feed-back you help us improve our ser-vices and deliver a better product.

What did we learn from the survey? Fortunately, there were no big red flags. We scored very strongly on all of the questions. For example, 100% indicated that we had met their deadlines, and all respondents said that they received the right amount of communication from us over the course of their project. The lowest average score we received was a strong 4 out of 5 for the question "How does Woodson compare to other firms that offer similar ser-vices?" We are happy that our cli-ents are pleased with our work espe-cially since our local competitors are strong firms that deliver high quality

projects as well.

A very construc-tive comment about needing a common contact within a depart-ment resulted in recognizing and addressing an area for improvement. We realized we need to spend a little more time on the communi-cation plan at the start of project and set expecta-tions to help avoid confusion or frustration later. It is important that everyone agrees on: an appro-priate response time for replying to email or returning a phone call; how people prefer to receive communica-tions; and managing communication protocol if a project manager is out of the office or traveling.

We also received encouraging words singling out specific staff and recog-nizing them for their work ethic and

professionalism: "Rick Schuller, Al-icia Stoffers, and everyone else we dealt with at Woodson were a bless-ing to work with."

Steve has been in his current position in the City of Wins-low for 2-1/2 years. Prior to Winslow he was the City Manager for the City of Bisbee for 8 years. His father was a Councilmember for the City of Maumee, Ohio, and Steve also served as Coun-cilmember and Mayor of Maumee for 16 years com-bined. "I guess you could say municipal work is in my blood."

Woodson Engineering and Survey-ing would like to thank Steve Pauken and the City of Winslow, for helping us to continue our long-term connection and commitment to the

City where we have served as the City Engineer for nearly 20 years.

In recent years, he has worked close-ly with several rural northern Arizo-na communities including Show Low, Pinetop-Lakeside, Springer-

ville, and Eagar. With this expertise, Bob is a great fit on the Woodson team with our focus on rural north-ern Arizona. Bob can be reached at [email protected] or by calling 928-774-4636.

Donnie Jones announced that she will be retiring in Septem-ber, 2016. Donnie has been the Office Manager at Woodson for over 10 years and has kept our operations running smoothly dur-ing that time. We are all hoping she'll reconsider, but she's not budging! She and her hus-band Greg are mov-ing on to a new ad-venture: welcoming their second grandchild and moving to Texas to be closer to their growing family. So, we have tried to encapsulate all that she does in the job posting to find her successor.

Staff Fun Fact. Did you know that Andrea Betts - Senior De-signer, is on the Maine Consoli-dated School Board, which serves the community of Parks, Arizona? We encourage our staff to contrib-ute to their com-munities and we appreci-ate An-drea's volunteer

The Roads and Streets 2016 Conference in April was a great success with over 1500 attend-ing. We were one of 115 exhibi-tors and excited to set up new displays for our booth. We hope to see you again, next year.

As the National President of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Mark Woodson had a busy spring. In early May he traveled to South Africa for the Civilution 2016 Conference with the South African Institute of Civil En-gineering in Johannesburg. ASCE published Mark's report of the trip and its importance, at the ASCE News site. During the trip he did a little sightsee-ing too, including a visit to the Shamwani Game Reserve.

Closer to home, Mark spent Memorial Day Weekend in Utah at Brigham Young University, for the ASCE/AISC Student Steel Bridge Competition.

The 2016 ASCE/AISC Student Steel Bridge Competition, was held at Brigham Young University.
