The History of Evaporative Cooling

• Evaporative cooling is the oldest form of air conditioning ever used

• The ancient Greeks used to fill terracotta pots full of water and leave them by doors and windows to benefit from evaporative cooling

• The Arabs hung wet blankets over doors and windows to achieve the same effect

• But this is direct evaporative cooling. The absolute humidity will increase.

• Canovate is introducing the Next Generation Evaporative Cooling for Datacenters

• Two 100% separated air streams. Outside air and datacenter air.• Only max.50 % of outside air to cool 100 % datacenter air. • Forced evaporation of the water on the surface of the plates

At low ambient temperatures the Canovate CACxxx Series can achieve 100% free cooling.

THREE OPERATING MODES

Free Cooling 0˚C to 15˚C Dry bulb temperature

Indirect Adiabatic Cooling 15˚C to 35˚C

As the ambient temperature begins to increase, the heat exchanger requires more airflow to deliver the required cooling, the ambient fans ramp up accordingly. The system will start with wetting the heat exchanger and run as a indirect adiabatic cooler.

Top up Operation above 35 ˚C

(Indirect adiabatic & mechanical cooling)

If the supply temperature cannot be met by indirect adiabatic cooling alone (i.e. where lower supply temperatures or higher more humid ambient conditions are present), the DX system will be activated.
