Easy – gentle grade on trail, a few hills on Cty Hwy G. Wooded on trail, scenic vistas on Cty Hwy G, view of Lake Superior on Hwy 2. The first 6 miles of this loop is on a multi-use crushed gravel trail that can be ridden all the way to Iron River and Superior! May encounter ATVs on trail. Road bikes can be used. Upon reaching Moquah by trail, turn right and head back to Hwy 2 on scenic Cty Hwy G. Stop to visit the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center (definitely worth it, and it’s free). Restroom facilities and artesian well at Prentice Park, no services at Moquah. Low to moderate traffic on Cty Hwy G; heavy at times on Hwy 2, but good shoulder. Park at Prentice Park in Ashland (follow sign on Hwy 2 just west of town). Penokee Range; Mellen – Clam Lake Loop 43.2 miles. Moderate – rolling hills and flat stretches. Woods and vistas. Services in Clam Lake and Mellen. Roads good to excellent, traffic moderate (Hwy 13 has a good shoulder). Mellen – Upson – Saxon Loop 47.1 miles. Moderate to difficult – some steep hills. Very scenic, wooded with impressive vistas of Penokee Range; access to rivers, falls and parks, including Copper Falls State Park. Services in Mellen and at Hwys 2/169. Roads good to excellent (gravel road to Potato River Falls), traffic low except on Hwy 2, which can be very busy, has narrow shoulder. Park in Mellen; begin at Hwy 77/13. Sanborn – Marengo Loop 16.7 miles. Easy – a few hills. Farmland, vistas, view of the Penokee hills, river crossings. Services in Marengo; bars in Sanborn. Roads good to excellent, traffic low to moderate on Hwy 112 and Hwy 13 (good shoulder on Hwy 13). Park in Sanborn. Ride begins at intersection of Cty Hwy E and C at south end of Sanborn; alternately, park in Marengo. Ashland to Odanah Out & Back 20 miles. Easy – flat farmland and woods. Rides past a scenic Ojibwe cemetery. No services in Odanah. Road excellent, traffic low. Park at 11th Ave. E. and E. Main St. in Ashland next to small city park. Follow 11th Ave. E. south out of town until it turns into Cty Hwy A. Follow Cty Hwy A to Hwy 2 and turn around. Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center to Moquah Out & Back 12 miles out & back to Moquah; 22.6 miles out & back to Hwy 2. Easy to moderate. Rural, scenic, views of the Penokee range. No services in Moquah. Road good; traffic moderate. Park at Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center. Bike to entrance and turn right, heading out on Cty Hwy G to Moquah (and beyond). Moquah Barrens Out & Back 40.6 miles. Easy to moderate. Scenic rolling hills and some vistas on a beautifully paved road through the Moquah Barrens. This is a unique ecosystem that can be explored on foot along the way. Walk into the barrens on dirt trails at various points along FR 236. Road excellent, traffic low. Park north of Ino on FR 236 and head north. Ino is about 15 minutes west of Ashland on Hwy 2. OR Park south of Cty Hwy C on FR 236 and head south. FR 236 is 10.3 miles northwest of Washburn off of Cty Hwy C. Madeline Island Loop 33 total Island miles. Easy to moderate. Refer to the map and select your own route. Ride on all the roads on the Island. Services in La Pointe. Roads good to excellent – most are paved, traffic low, except moderate on major holidays and weekends. Park in Bayfield at the Ferry Landing area or if you take your vehicle, park at La Pointe. Take the Madeline Island Ferry with your bike. There is a fee to ride the ferry both ways, tickets can be purchased at the ticket office or on the boat. “Around the Horn” Loop 49.8 miles. Moderate to difficult – gently rolling to very hilly. Very scenic, spectacular views of Lake Superior. Food, services, galleries and parks in Cornucopia, Red Cliff, Bayfield and Washburn; artesian well and restrooms at West End Park and Cornucopia Beach, restrooms in Bayfield. Roads good to excellent, traffic moderate to heavy; shoulder on parts of Hwy 13. Park at Thompson’s West End Park in Washburn. Red Cliff – Little Sand Bay Loop 16 miles. Moderate. Very scenic views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands. Food and services in Red Cliff; Parks at Little Sand Bay. Park in Red Cliff at Legendary Waters Resort & Casino. 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 Bayfield Orchard Loop (Fruit Loop) 10.9 miles. Difficult – very hilly. Very scenic; opportunities for orchard hopping. Spectacular views of Lake Superior. Food, services, galleries, shops, parks and restrooms in Bayfield. Roads good, traffic low. Park in Bayfield. Moquah Barrens – Washburn Loop 52.3 miles. Moderate – rolling hills. Very scenic combination of woods, rolling hills, vistas, farmland and views of Lake Superior. Services in Washburn; food in Ino and Washburn; artesian well and restrooms at West End Park in Washburn. Restrooms at Valhalla Recreation Area. Roads good to excellent (especially FR 236), traffic low, can be moderate on Cty Hwy G and C, can be heavy on Hwy 13 and 2 (both have shoulders). Park at Thompson’s West End Park in Washburn. Washburn – Ondossagon Road Loop 14.0 miles. Easy to moderate. Country vistas, farmland, woods; very pretty. Views of Lake Superior. Alternatives to extend ride. Food and services in Washburn; artesian well and restrooms at West End Park in Washburn. Roads good, traffic low, except moderate on Cty Hwy C and Hwy 13 (Hwy 13 has paved shoulder). Park at Thompson’s West End Park in Washburn. Cable – Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest Loop 28.0 miles. Easy to moderate – rolling terrain with stretches of flat. Very scenic, woods, lake. Food and services in Cable; food in surrounding area. Roads good to excellent, traffic low, except moderate on Cty Hwy M (has shoulder). Park in Cable. Drummond – Iron River Loop 47.6 miles. Moderate to difficult. Great variety of scenery, woods, vistas, lakes, hills, straightaways, blueberry patches. Food and services in Iron River and Drummond; food in Delta. Roads good to excellent, traffic low to moderate. Park in Drummond or Iron River. Mason – Delta Loop 17.3 miles. Easy to moderate. Beautiful rolling hills, vistas, picnic/dip in White River just past corner of Sutherland/ Mason-Delta Rd. Hybrids or mountain bikes recommended, although road bikes have made it. Food in Mason. Roads good to excellent, except 2.5 mi. of hard gravel on Mason-Delta Rd.; low traffic. Park in Mason, across from White River Saloon. Firehouse Fifty Loop 50.0 miles. Moderate to difficult. Rolling hills, Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, lakes, vistas. This is the route for the Grand View Firehouse Fifty race that attracts over a thousand bicyclists the first weekend in August each year. Food and services in Grand View, Drummond and Cable. Low traffic, moderate on Cty Hwy M and Hwy 63 (shoulder on Hwy 63). Park in Grand View. Lake Owen Loop 22.9 miles. Moderate – rolling hills and straightaways. Beautiful winding route through the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest near Lake Owen. Food and services in Drummond. Roads good to excellent, traffic low. Park in Drummond across from N. Lake Owen Dr. Lake Namakagon Loop 18.8 miles. Easy to moderate. Huge, scenic Lake Namakagon; wind through woods on roller coaster hills. Food at many locations along County Hwy D, Hwy M and Garmisch Rd. Roads good to excellent, traffic low to moderate (on summer weekends). Park across from the Pioneer Bar on Pioneer Rd., east of Cty Hwy D. Barnes; Upper & Middle Eau Claire Loops 16.49 Miles. Easy to Moderate. Gentle rolling knolls and hills through the woods with scenic views of Upper Eau Claire, Bony, Mimi and Middle Eau Claire Lakes. This route crosses the Eau Claire River over a rustic bridge. Ideal route for road bicycles. Roads are excellent to good and traffic is low. Food at many locations near the route. This is a unique ecosystem that can be explored on foot along the way. Walk into the barrens on dirt trails at various points along FR 236. Road excellent, traffic low. Park north of Ino on FR 236 and head north. Ino is about 15 minutes west of Ashland on Hwy 2. OR Park south of Cty Hwy C on FR 236 and head south. FR 236 is 10.3 miles northwest of Washburn off of Cty Hwy C.

Madeline Island Loop33 total Island miles. Easy to moderate. Refer to the map and select your own route. Ride on all the roads on the Island. Services in La Pointe. Roads good to excellent – most are paved, traffic low, except moderate on major holidays and weekends. Park in Bayfield at the Ferry Landing area or if you take your vehicle, park at La Pointe. Take the Madeline Island Ferry with your bike. There is a fee to ride the ferry both ways, tickets can be purchased at the ticket office or on the boat.

“Around the Horn” Loop49.8 miles. Moderate to difficult – gently rolling to very hilly. Very scenic, spectacular views of Lake Superior. Food, services, galleries and parks in Cornucopia, Red Cliff, Bayfield and Washburn; artesian well and restrooms at West End Park and Cornucopia Beach, restrooms in Bayfield. Roads good to excellent, traffic moderate to heavy; shoulder on parts of Hwy 13. Park at Thompson’s West End Park in Washburn.

Red Cliff – Little Sand Bay Loop16 miles. Moderate. Very scenic views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands. Food and services in Red Cliff; Parks at Little Sand Bay. Park in Red Cliff at Legendary Waters Resort & Casino.

Bayfield Orchard Loop (Fruit Loop)10.9 miles. Difficult – very hilly. Very scenic; opportunities for orchard hopping. Spectacular views of Lake Superior. Food, services, galleries, shops, parks and restrooms in Bayfield. Roads good, traffic low. Park in Bayfield.

Moquah Barrens – Washburn Loop52.3 miles. Moderate – rolling hills. Very scenic combination of woods, rolling hills, vistas, farmland and views of Lake Superior. Services in Washburn; food in Ino and Washburn; artesian well and restrooms at West End Park in Washburn. Restrooms at Valhalla Recreation Area. Roads good to excellent (especially FR 236), traffic low, can be moderate on Cty Hwy G and C, can be heavy on Hwy 13 and 2 (both have shoulders). Park at Thompson’s West End Park in Washburn.

Washburn – Ondossagon Road Loop14.0 miles. Easy to moderate. Country vistas, farmland, woods; very pretty. Views of Lake Superior. Alternatives to extend ride. Food and services in Washburn; artesian well and restrooms at West End Park in Washburn. Roads good, traffic low, except moderate on Cty Hwy C and Hwy 13 (Hwy 13 has paved shoulder). Park at Thompson’s West End Park in Washburn.

Cable – Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest Loop28.0 miles. Easy to moderate – rolling terrain with stretches of flat. Very scenic, woods, lake. Food and services in Cable; food in surrounding area. Roads good to excellent, traffic low, except moderate on Cty Hwy M (has shoulder). Park in Cable.

Drummond – Iron River Loop47.6 miles. Moderate to difficult. Great variety of scenery, woods, vistas, lakes, hills, straightaways, blueberry patches. Food and services in Iron River and Drummond; food in Delta. Roads good to excellent, traffic low to moderate. Park in Drummond or Iron River.

Mason – Delta Loop17.3 miles. Easy to moderate. Beautiful rolling hills, vistas, picnic/dip in White River just past corner of Sutherland/Mason-Delta Rd. Hybrids or mountain bikes recommended, although road bikes have made it. Food in Mason. Roads good to excellent, except 2.5 mi. of hard gravel on Mason-Delta Rd.; low traffic. Park in Mason, across from White River Saloon.

Firehouse Fifty Loop50.0 miles. Moderate to difficult. Rolling hills, Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, lakes, vistas. This is the route for the Grand View Firehouse Fifty race that attracts over a thousand bicyclists the first weekend in August each year. Food and services in Grand View, Drummond and Cable. Low traffic, moderate on Cty Hwy M and Hwy 63 (shoulder on Hwy 63). Park in Grand View.

Lake Owen Loop22.9 miles. Moderate – rolling hills and straightaways. Beautiful winding route through the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest near Lake Owen. Food and services in Drummond. Roads good to excellent, traffic low. Park in Drummond across from N. Lake Owen Dr.

Lake Namakagon Loop18.8 miles. Easy to moderate. Huge, scenic Lake Namakagon; wind through woods on roller coaster hills. Food at many locations along County Hwy D, Hwy M and Garmisch Rd. Roads good to excellent, traffic low to moderate (on summer weekends). Park across from the Pioneer Bar on Pioneer Rd., east of Cty Hwy D.

Barnes; Upper & Middle Eau Claire Loops16.49 Miles. Easy to Moderate. Gentle rolling knolls and hills through the woods with scenic views of Upper Eau Claire, Bony, Mimi and Middle Eau Claire Lakes. This route crosses the Eau Claire River over a rustic bridge. Ideal route for road bicycles. Roads are excellent to good and traffic is low. Food at many locations near the route. Park at The Middle Eau Claire Lakes Boat Landing on Highway 27, ¼ mile south of Pease Road.
