Friends,

It gives me immense pleasure to introduce Shri Vile Parle Kelavani MandaI's

(SVKM) Mithibai College of Arts, Chauhan Institute of Science & Amrutben

Jivanlal College of Commerce and Economics.

Mankind has entered a brave new age - an age where an effective level of

international competitiveness is proving to be of essence. Also, our Hon'ble

H.E. Ex-President Shri A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has given us a dream and aim to

transform our country to a "Developed Country" from a "Developing Country".

Here, academic Institutes have a great role to play in enabling young people

to have a grand vision and to equip them with overall ability and precise skills

to change this vision into a reality.

Our college offers various academic courses in almost all the streams. Our

learned, concerned and responsible teachers endeavor to unleash the deeply

embedded rational power in the mind of the students. Various extra-curricular

and cultural activities happening in our college are aimed at total personality

development of the students. We help students to develop an intelligent mind

with analytical ability, to take on worldly challenges and a strong will power to

assume social responsibility. In other words, we help in creating progressive

and positive citizens.

This prospectus is a reflection of the ethos of the college. I wish the College

ever growing success.

Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal is a Public Charitable Trust registered under the

Society's Registration Act and Bombay Public Trust Act. The SVKM has always

been committed to the cause of providing high quality education at various levels.

From its humble beginnings in 1934, when it took over the Rashtriya Shala, a

school established in 1921 in the wake of the National Movement, the Mandal

today has grown into a big educational trust imparting high-level education to more

than 40,000 students.

The ethos of the Mandal, which is marked by patriotic fervor, selfless service and

the spirit of indigenous enterprise, has its genesis in the days of India's struggle for

freedom. These values permeate all the institutions set up by the Mandal and are

the guiding principles for all of them.

Over the past 80 years, the Mandal has developed a large educational complex in

Vile Parle. All SVKM institutes have state of the art facilities and infrastructure in

keeping with the strong vision and passion of the Mandal to enhance the quality of

the modern education system.

With its roots in the Swadeshi Movement, the Mandal is now an ever growing trust

which promotes excellence in education. It also emphasizes on high values,

professionalism, social sensitivity and dynamic entrepreneurship. Through all this

it encourages global thinking without diminishing the importance of national

interests.

Inputs from the In-charge

Higher Education in India is opening its doors to International Educational

Institutions. At such a time, it is of utmost importance to uphold the quality of

higher education in Indian Educational Institutions. In this respect, I am very

pleased to say that Mithibai College has been consistently delivering such

academic excellence for more than five decades.

One of the norms to check quality in education is its 'Fitness for Purpose'. With

this in mind, Mithibai College has carried out a two pronged programme of

strengthening the academic fundamentals of the student as well as imparting a

skill set that improves the student's employability multi-fold. As a direct result of

this all round development Mithibai College has garnered an alumnus that is full

of luminaries from all walks of life. Thus, the nation has benefited immensely

from the contribution of this dedicated alma-mater.

The commitment to ever enhance the quality of Higher Education is an ongoing

endeavour for Mithibai College. It shall continue to create Global Citizens of

repute who contribute to World Prosperity and Peace.

Shri. Sunandan Divatia

In-Charge, Mithibai College

Hon. Secretary, SVKM

Established in 1961, Mithibai College has come a long way in the field of higher education. Led by the illustrious

tradition of Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal, it has become a preferred destination for students with diverse

needs. A penchant for self discipline has made Mithibai College synonymous with academic excellence and all

round development.

In the second decade of the third millennium, one realizes the importance of scholastic research. With this in

mind Mithibai College urges its staff and students to broaden their horizons. At the same time, it lays emphasis

on all the ennobling qualities and fosters myriad aesthetic pursuits. Last but not the least, we believe that we

create tomorrow's leaders. Today's Mithibaite is tomorrow's Globetrotter – decisive, assertive and ready to take

on challenges.

Welcome to Mithibai College

Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal (SVKM) established the Mithibai College of Arts &

Mohanlal Dayal Chauhan Institute of Science in 1961 as a part of its own Silver

Jubilee Celebration. Amrutben Jivanlal College of Commerce and Economics was

an addition in the year 1980. A complex was thereby formed that embraced the

three main streams of education – Arts, Science and Commerce. The college is

affiliated to the University of Mumbai and has more than 11,000 students, 198

Teaching staff and 157 Non-Teaching staff in the Degree and Junior College taken

together.

The College at present boasts of need based, career-oriented, self-financing

courses like BMS, BAF, BBI, BFM, BMM, B.Sc Bio-Chemistry, B.Sc Bio-

Technology, and B.Sc Computer Science at the undergraduate level. Also it offers

M.Com,. M.Sc. Bio-Chemistry, M.Sc. Bio-Technology, M.Sc Computer Science,

M.Sc. (Analytical Chemistry), M.Sc. (Statistics), M.Sc (Mathematics), M.A.

(English), and M.A. (Psychology), at the post-graduate level.

The college is fortunate to have a dedicated parent body in Shri Vile Parle Kelavani

Mandal which offers every kind of assistance at every stage. Keeping pace with the

growth of the college, the Mandal has generously invested in expanding the

infrastructural facilities. The College is equipped with state-of-the-art

infrastructure which includes ICT enabled Classrooms, well furnished

Laboratories, an Air-Conditioned Library and a Multi-Cuisine Canteen. Overall it

has a most conducive atmosphere for the growth of the teaching-learning process.

Community Social Responsibility has always been a priority for Mithibai College.

With this in mind Rain Water Harvesting facilities have also been put in place.

The college has always been conscious of its role as a constructive and responsible

part of the larger society. Utmost attention is given to the overall development of

the personality of students through Co-Curricular and Extra-Curricular activities. In

spite of the phenomenally large number of students, the standard of discipline is

well maintained. Surprisingly, the student-teacher relations still remain absolutely

cordial. The college even provides professional personal counseling to the

students.

Overall consistent and unstinting efforts of the College are borne out by the fact that

students enter the college, uncertain, bewildered, but leave its portals much more

confident and focused, ready to lead successful lives of their own even while

enriching that of the society.

VISIONEquip students with knowledge and skills in their chosen stream, inculcate

values, identify hidden talents, provide opportunities for students to realize their

full potential and thus shape them into future leaders, entrepreneurs and above

all good human beings.

MISSION• To equip students with advanced knowledge and the latest skills in their

chosen discipline.

• To nurture a scientific spirit of inquiry among the students.

• To provide value-based education that will mould them into good and

responsible citizens playing a meaningful role in society.

• To tap the students' potential – both hidden and obvious – and offer a platform

for their talents.
