Identity and Mission of Catholic Universities

WHAT IS IT?

- A congress for the whole University community.- A place to think over

the role of Catholic Universities around the world.

- A think tank: We will reflect on the project of Catholic universities and their contribution to the society.

- An academic forum to exchange views, contacts and experiences.

- A place where students can express themselves.

WHO ARE WE?Catholic Universities from all over the world with a common concern: to be known from a humanistic, academic and religious perspective.

- Associate universities of ICUSTA (International Council of Universities of St Thomas Aquinas) from countries like Argentina, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, United States, Ethiopia, France, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Mozambique, Nigeria, Peru and the Philippines.

- Spanish Universities: - CEU (San Pablo, Abat Oliba, Cardenal

Herrera).- Francisco de Vitoria.- Navarra.- Católica San Antonio de Murcia.- Católica San Vicente Mártir de Valencia.- Católica Santa Teresa de Jesús de Ávila.

- By attending the scheduled conferences on the 12th, 13th and 14th of August, 2011 in Avila, Spain. - By taking part in recreational activities at the Catholic Universities Festival, which will take place parallel to the Congress.

- We seek active and enriching participation.

PAPERS

30th April 2011 is the deadline for the presentation

of the paper summaries.

Final papers due: 25th June 2011

Prospective authors of papers should first submit an abstract of no more than 200 words, for approval by the Congress Academic Committee.

THEMES: Papers should deal with one of the core areas of the Congress.

The universities’ convention Will be a meeting point for participants and

an instrument to deepen and strengthen relations among the participating

universities.

The city: Ávila

WORLD HERITAGE CITY

Ávila is a beautiful city located in the center of Spain, one hour from the Madrid airport, easily accessible and well served by public transport.

In 1985 its walls and extramural Romanesque churches were designated a UNESCO world heritage site.

The Congresses and Exhibitions Center “Lienzo Norte” will host this international event.

La Feria de Universidades servirá de punto de encuentro entre los asistentes y como instrumento para profundizar y consolidar las relaciones entre las universidades participantes.

Cradle of Teresa of Ávila

St. Teresa of Ávila and St. John of the Cross were born in this city. Ávila has a rich historical, artistic and

cultural heritage, as well as spectacular medieval walls.
