On the other hand in the absence of scientism, we shall continue to face the problem of research integrity and loss of scientific credibility to our S&T efforts. 7.0Focus Areas for Technology Innovations: Let me finish by listinga few important areas of national priority for technology innovationsintheIndiancontextwhichessentiallyrequirenurturinganenabling environment for integrating the power of science and the might of technology. These are related to:

1.Providingenergysecurity-asignificantincreaseininstalledcapacity, reductioninT&Dlosses, energyconversationdevicesandprogramsand technology break- through for making renewable energy economically viable. They bring us their messages, their love and their living from the new world of heaven.Today one amongst us is far away, somewhere sitting and watching all of us. Praying for us and with the wind she sends us her blessings. Her last words are wisdom to us, her last words are priceless. And this is an ode to the fighter within her, the one which did not lose the battle till the end.The one which will be our strength, so that One dayWe can fight till we winOne dayWe can care till we love One dayWe forget our differences and be one!Because, together if wish we canTogether, we and you shall. This excerpt is from her last poem My Interaction with GodOne day, I asked godIt is said we are your children and you are our fatherThen why some people are unhappy and sadGod said,I give happiness to all my childrenBut some fail to recognize it.As it comes disguised,An Ode to an AngelThe one who recognizes it, is happyAnd others are sad all through their life. Then I asked godHow can you see your children in pain?God said,Winning horse runs only because of beats and painsLife is a race and I am the riderSo if I give you pain I want you to win. Finally I asked godHow can we be happy in downs of our life?God said,Remember the happy moments of your lifeThen all your pain and sadness will subsideAnd keep this thing in your mindHave faith in meAnd for sure clouds of darkness will go and there will be sunshine.Suchi Shukla(1986-2008)Suchi Shukla was a student of UIT RGTUwho battled her illness till her very last. She was diagnosed with kidney failure and underwent dialysis twice a week, while she was pursuing her engineering in the year 2003-2004 and was prescribed complete bed rest by the doctor.. But such was her desire to accomplish her studies that as and when she could deal with her illness she would ask for admission and continue with her degree. Against all odds Suchi fought with determination and strength. She was donated with her mothers' kidney in the year 2006 but as fate unfolded her body rejected the transplanted kidney. Her ambitions were left unaccomplished on January 1st, 2008 after battling for a long time.Dear Suchi,You will always be the sunshine amongst us.Yesterday, today and tomorrow, we will be proud of you.UITRGTUNirvanaGive More Articles1Ways2008FundooArticles12 3 4 520 19 181621222340 38 37 364142445856 61 626364 6580 79 78 76818384 8598 97 96WAKE UP Will Make Som hig eTndifferetnMAGAZINE2008 ?PORSTETEAMLISTGRAPHICS TEAMWho Knows Photoshop ? But that was then, when blood was not just an elixir to life it was an elixir to ones conviction, it ran through that fabric of society which was made by not just few mortals but by those who had souls of wisdom, to whom ones conviction was bigger than few green leafs. To them blood was not something to be saved but to be spilled on the faces of those who tortured, convicted the innocent and marred our country with derogation. And now is the time when blood is nothing but mere source of living. After we celebrated 60 odd years of our independence, one is bound to question Where did that passion to fight for freedom vanished?Freedom, not just from oppression but from the rigidity of our minds, freedom, not from the shackles of injustice but from that of corruption and illegitimate bureaucracy, freedom, from not few white men but from the timidity of that insignificant man which is hiding in all of us due to fear and greed.Yes, today after long the toll went on our independence it is time that we wake up to another of a midnight, when half of the world would be asleep but India would awake to a new dawn of freedom in true sense. We all agree that to start a revolution, one must create a revolution within and when I see the youth of today studying into the fields of medical andengineering abusing the strength of words, ridiculing them by making mockery ofthe so called kalam ki takat I feel ashamed. For they are not those who will ever be proud of their own country when for one single instant they could not be tolerant to the silent weapon of writers and journalists. Its not just about few chunks of engineering students, neither it is about those medical students who fake their mark sheets to become professional doctors and end up being quacks. Neither it is about those non-conformists who blast innocent people to the arms of death; true they all have reasons for their behavior. But unfortunately their reason is not to stand for their conviction; rather it is to crush the very existence of it from others, those who have it within!Imightbeincomprehensiblebecausecertainwordsinthisarticleareforcedonfewpeople, butwhat needs to be understood that there won't be a Gandhi or a Nehru to balance the pillar of strength every time we crash it down. If it has to be build lets start with building our morals first. And then let's change the world! We have seen so many, who have fought relentlessly on the open fields of bullets, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev. We don't need to see beyond the boundaries of our own country, why we don't instigate ourselves from within? If movies like 'Rang De Basanti' can make a difference then I believe we still are made from the same blood, of that which demarcates us not by any creed, color, race or religion. They demarcate us from the world for making us Indians. I know, no movie, no inspiration can make us. What can make us is our own self; no piece of land can be named heaven unless one has seen the real one. Start from believing your self, that you and only you can make a difference and if there has to be an inspiration let that be each of us to one another! Few golden Swords!Infinite FrontiersAlways forgive your enemies but never forget their names.A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance. It is fitting that at this solemn moment we take the pledge of dedication to the service of India and her people and to the still larger cause of humanity. For the very cause of humanity, let's stop hooliganism, let's stop mob furry, let's no more be dependant on candle lit vigils, let's start being humans strength in itself, let's start today. For we want just few golden swords to win the battle and let one amongst them be you!Debashree ChatterjeeFinal Year I.P.At the epicenter of the times uncertain and untold It was born in the warmth of the cosmic coldIt was like a thought but more of an embryo of realityIt was a perpetual thought but more of a promise of time and certaintyIt was a like thought of Brahma Yet it was the fruit of eternal karmaIt was like a singularity but more of a vast polarityA land that was born upon the evolutionary ridge To defy yet define the cultivated culture and known knowledgeIt was neither a founding stone nor the beginning of an empire Just at the length of the hourglass, it was an endeavorOf all those who grew here& yet & yet it was an epic -unending and rareInstilled & veiled in the intelligent mindscapes And forever living in its livingscapesAnd as passeth the ages and past disappeared into the presencePeople of the land realized its long existenceEternal thought turn into a land, land turned into a country The country is India.THEANCIENTT HOUGHTYash saxenaFinal yearInfinite FrontiersAlgebra was easy for the Romans because "X" was always 10TEC-GYAHNIs your mobile wi-fi? For e.g., a person who takes a BSNL Rs250/- connection ends up paying much more than that, when he exceeds his data transfer limit. Even the data transfer while surfing and browsing is considered as downloading. For e.g. beyond your download limit visiting a graphic intensive page and surfing say ten pages in the website can cost you 8-10 Rs. So when you exceed your limit an hour of surfing costing can make you a little uncomfortable. There are various reasons why a person can exceed his limit beside the obvious ones- they include visiting youtube there even if you don't look at a video in full the browser loads the video and it adds to your account. Besides there are spywares, Adwares which silently and secretly keep communicating to their servers and keep adding to your download limit. Here I have explained them and will also be suggesting a solution for it.Spyware is Internet jargon for Advertising Supported software (Adware). It is a way for shareware authors to make money from a product, other than by selling it to the users. There are several large media companies that offer them to place banner ads in their products in exchange for a portion of the revenue from banner sales. This way, you don't have to pay for the software and the developers are still getting paid. If you find the banners annoying, there is usually an option to remove them, by paying the regular licensing fee.Why is it called "Spyware? While this may be a great concept, the downside is that the advertising companies also install additional tracking softwareonyoursystem, whichiscontinuously"callinghome",usingyourInternetconnectionandreports statisticaldatatothe"mothership". Whileaccordingtotheprivacypoliciesofthecompanies, therewillbeno sensitive or identifying data collected from your system and you shall remain anonymous, it still remains the fact, that you have a "live" server sitting on your PC that is sending information about you and your surfing habits to a remote location... Quite similar to what happened in that advertisement an unthinking students often ask in lectures, 'May I ask a question?' Quick and witted replies are 'Too late' and 'Was that the question?' Similarly if the 'Don't read this notice' sign refers to itself, then it too is too late in its warning, just as is the notice that says 'Do not enter this room,' which is displayed in the room rather than outside. Don't you find such instances like few paradoxical classics? They have been happening from only God knows what time. There was once a barber of Rampur, a village somewhere in Uttar Pradesh, who, it was famously said, shaved all those inhabitants of the village who did not shave themselves. It was added that he shaved no others; he shaved only those who did not shave themselvesand he shaved all of them. So far, so good, until someone asked, 'Did the barber shave himself?' Either he did or he did not. Suppose he shaved himself: then he was not one of the inhabitants who did not shave themselves. But we are told that the barber shaved only those who did not shave themselves. So, he did not shave himself. Therefore, fromthesuppositionthathedidshavehimselfitfollowsthathedidnotwhichisa contradiction. 'Con-tra-diction!' we could sing. Presumably, then, he did not shave himself; so let us consider this alternative. If he did not shave himself, then he was one of those inhabitants who did notshavethemselves, butaswearetoldthatthebarberdidshaveallsuchinhabitants, hemust therefore have shaved himself. 'Con-tra-diction!' What is to be done? It is not possible for there to be a barberwhobothdoesanddoesnotshavehimself. Whenwesaidthateitherthebarbershaved himself or did not, we were presupposing that such a barber existed. The answer is that there can be no such barber. The presupposition is false. And now for something completely differentor is it? Suppose someone (the boy in advertisement said I am telling truth, not literally but he did in fact say a truth.) Says, 'I'm lying' and says nothing else. When people utter such words, they are typically referring to other things that they have said; but in this case the speaker is referring solely to what he is saying when saying, 'I'm lying but we may reasonably challenge the assumption that he expresses something that is true or false. Campus CafHe's not dead, he's electroencephalographically-challenged.As with the Barber, let us consider the two alternatives: that he is speaking the truth and that he is not. Suppose he is speaking the truth: then it is true that he is lying but if he is lying, he is not speaking the truth. We have a contradiction. Suppose that he is not speaking the truth: then, as we assume he knows what he is doing, he is lying and so, as he says that he is lying, he is speaking the truth after all. 'Con-tra-diction!' With the Barber, we said that there could be no barber. With the Liar? Thespeakerwhosaysthatheislyingbothexistsanduttersthewords'I'mlying'butwemay reasonably challenge the assumption that he expresses something that is true or false. Just as the Barber paradox led us to conclude that there could be no such barber, so the Liar paradox may lead us to conclude that there is nothing that is being expressed by the speaker which is either true or false. This answer does not reach the heart of the problem, for we can strengthen and lengthen the paradox, with the speaker saying that what he says is not true. Would he not be expressing the truth that what he says is not true? If so, again the contradiction arises. This has suggested to some that we should resort to a stronger claim, namely that there is nothing at all that such a speaker is expressing when he says, 'What I am saying right now is not true' despite the words forming a coherent sentence. We need to handle this response with care. Quite what grip we have on the notion of 'expressing' such that we can tell that such a speaker is expressing nothing at all? He certainly seems to be expressing something more than someone who is silent or who utters nonsense words. Let us leave that thought lingering, to be picked up later.* * *If you remember that we also mentioned a case of notice and a room, now if a notice a notice can sensibly instruct people not to read a different notice, just as the sign that warns of dangers in the room can be sensibly placed outside the blue room, the job we intend to do would be done. Futility arises when the notices involve elements of self-reference. A barber in Rampur can readily shaveallandonlythosewhodonotshavethemselvesinthenextvillage, say,Shyampur. The contradiction arises if that barber moves to Shyampur. Metaphorically, he goes up in a puff of smoke or a froth of shaving soap. In more literal mode, were the barber to move from Rampur to Shyampur, then what was true of him about his shaving clientele could no longer be true. A liar may say of someone else, without paradox, that that someone else is lying; it is when he says it of himself that paradoxfliesforth.Andthesimilarparadoxholdsitsvalidityinthecaseoftruthwhereyoucan presume it to be a false. True, he (the liar) may sincerely think that he expresses something but he is merely uttering words andfailingtoexpressacompletethought.Byanalogy, someone is not successfully telling you the meaning of 'dullu'if,whenaskedwhatshemeans, shecansayonly thatby'dullu'shemeans'dullu'.Noticesandsayings usually need to point away from themselves, rather than referringtothemselves, butweneedtobewaryof mirroring;waryofwhatissaidbeingreflectedback, indirectlygeneratingsomeself-reference.(1)WhatI express by the next sentence is true. (2) What I expressed by the previous sentence is not true. You can't have everything - where would you put it?The first sentence is used to tell us about what is expressed by the second but that sends us scuttling back to the first, with paradoxical resultsunless we insist, once again, that, one way or another, nothing is being expressed. Self-reference continues to feast philosophers' minds. Some self-referenceormirroringseemsfine.Forexample,whenIsaythat,'IamIndian'.Myuseofthat sentenceexpressedatruth.Butwemayquestionwhetherthatsentenceinvolvesselfreference. All the self referenced sentence are like a loop to follow which does not have any termination step, and invariably take us to emptiness. I may now clarify (and rest some nerves) the claim that nothing is expressed by the use of such self-referential sentences. The truth is that nothing is identified which the speaker is expressing anything about. Although some things are being expressed for example the concepts of 'saying' and 'being true' are being expressed they are not being expressed about anything.Thereisnothingtheretoexpressanythingabout.Whathasjustbeensaidmaybe interestingor uninteresting but is what is expressed by means of this sentence interesting? The 'MOOD I' festival at IIT Powai. We departed for the fest on 26of December 2007. For us the first year students, it was more of a party time before the commencement of New Year. At the railway station was seen a great amalgamation of seniors and juniors along with four faculty members. As we all were turning impatient to start the journey the information about the delay of train bit our ears. So, off we were wandering on the platform. Ultimately we departed around 2pm.ThejourneyonwardswasfilledwithexcitementofbeingapartofAsia'slargestyouth gathering, the Mood Indigo. th27December was the day to explore the campus and studious brats of IIT. The evening was more happening. All of us were immensely anxious to watch the 'Gazal Night' by one and only Mr. Jagjit Singh. The show was awesome and the crowd at the open air theater thoroughly enjoyed the show. thOn 28December, the dawn came late for all of us. This day again was fully loaded with loads of fun and frolic, all of us enjoyed a lot as many amongst us took part in the various events that were set for competition .In the evening, our first year group went out to see Mumbai central.Since the city was unknown to all of us our destination almost went for a toss, we were lost. But as we all fully agree to the fact that students of RGPV are jack of all trades, even though master of none (pun intended) we found our way and reached to Mumbai central. We did little bit of shopping, while over at the festival our seniors rocked to the performance of famous trio 'Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy'.th29 Decemberwasthedayoffestival.Studentsofourgroupparticipatedineventslike scavenger hunt, antakshri etc. We were unable to leave any mark at any of the event but got a good thlearningexperienceforanysuchnextevent.On29 ,thefirstyeargroupagainheadedtowards Mumbai Central, visited 'Fashion Street'. The evening was more fun, we attended proshow performed by two very famous bands 'The Zero Band' and 'Thermal and Quarter', both the bands were fantabulous. Our journey back home filled us with mixed emotions. We had the anxiety to reach home soon and narrate out experience to all, at the same time the enthusiastic atmosphere here had captivated us to such an extent, that we didn't want to go back. With that it came an end to our roller coaster ride in st31December, when we returned back with beautiful memories. Which we would always cherish! Campus CafDid Noah keep his bees in ArcHives? Campus CafThe word 'Dream', from which all of us are familiar, Aah! I get excited whenever I think of the very word. It is a word having different meaning for different people. Like 'pen' for children, is a toybut for writers it means a lot. As we cross different phases of life, the meaning of this word changes significantly. As a child dreams are limited to chocolates, bat, ball and last but not the least our superheroes like Batman, He-man. At that time it made us to live in the world of fantasies. Considering those situations once again we find all this little off track because now these things are not that big a deal for us. But the point is when these fantasies come true we consider ourselves a WINNER!Now when we are teenagers (I am considering every one to be one) our dreams start to take a definite shape. This is the age of those dreams that decide our future, our upcoming world. At this age we dream of our future and some as an engineer (as an engineer, I put engineers first) others as doctors, managers, politicians. No doubt the dreams at this level, forms the basis of our future. So I think it is fair to call these dreams as FUTURE DREAMS.To achieve some thing we have to do something.I think this saying is partly incomplete. It must go like-To achieve something we have to dream something, and then do something. Now, I sound better, I would say more practical. Dreams are what people are free to have, these are our desires that we want to achieve, what we want in future. Being a computer science engineer, I am calling this 'dream initialization'. So we are free to initialize them, because ultimately we want our 'DreamSuccess'likeanyc/c++programsuccess.Toachieveyourdreamssuccessfully,consider yourself as a programmer who is paid for making code of what not! I was now ready to leave the 12 years of uniformed school life behind. I was happy that now I would be going to college in style. On my new CBZ-Xtreme with a jazzy helmet and cool carefully casual clothes sometimes I even thought of having studs in my ears, the thought was as quickly abandoned. It gave us all a feeling of solidarity as we could always recognize our lot. This was really necessary because in our early days in the college a certain bonding was required with your batch mates. This was the most awaited moment; the annual day 'Anunaad' (awaited since last four years) was to be held this time. We grabbed the opportunity with full enthusiasm. But being a volunteer and writing all crap entries in registration formwasnotwhatwethoughtittobelike. Toshowfull neta-giriweneededtodosomething stupendous on stage. BUT WHAT?? Suddently our think tank Sukanya Ganguli came up with an idea of a skit, the skit about our journey from school to college. But having a theme was not all enough to do a play, a script was needed (unfortunately the goal of having a script was never accomplished). At the time of auditions we were only 14 people longing to be the super stars of the play which had no storyline, nodialoguesandnocharactersyet.Theproblemwasfurthermultipliedwhenour opponent teams came up with innovative plays, with quality acting and of course with necessary accessories and equipments (including script) to make it for the final day. We had to perform in front of faculties and seniors. To our surprise, our skit which was a total mess in front of them did the trick to impress the seniors. A little bit of makkhan-baji of teachers and seniors did it for us finally, and all the other teams could do nothing but accept the reality with their jaws hanging like dogs. But this was not all, then began the actual drama of practicing for the final day, and we had single day to prove our mettle and make our seniors proud of believing in us. The very next morning we had to meet at Mayur Park for the rehearsals (calling it rehearsals wont be apt, because we still did not had a full skit to rehearse on). We did everything like playing with hosepipe, climbingontrees, andgainedlotofvitaminD(whilesittingideallyinsun),exceptfor rehearsing.Watchingthevideocaptureofwholeday'sworkoutwaslikewatchingRajpalyadav working together with Rajnikant in a Tamil movie. And at the last scene of the play we played our best part to make it the weirdest something ever done on stage. Campus CafFuel! If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done? Ananya Dubeyth4Sem, ECShould I write for my college magazine? I think I should not because writing is not an easy task and what is the guarantee that if I write, my article will be published. I am not a professional writer, so how can I meet the standards required for the magazine. It is getting difficult for me to decide whether to write or not. I cannot copy an article, I cannot write anything cheap. I have to write something that satisfies my readers and me. I can't spend hours on writing so that I can give my best, but the truth is, only the best among the betters is going to be published. What will my friends think? If I write some jokes or such silly stuff, their chats will be unbearable for me. I have no creativity of my own and I cannot borrow from others. It will be much better to leave it over here, just drop the idea of an article for the college magazine. The cameraman, in spite of our great artistic acts got attracted by the carton and zoomed it the largest extent. The only thing which appeared on screen was a four letter word'FUEL'.All our labor of putting two cm. thick layer of makeup over our faces went worthless. To our surprise the play came to an end with a bash, everybody applauded and enjoyed each part of play. But for us, (who knew the full inside story) it was a total mess. Remembering that historic event, I still keep on laughing alone for hours, on our stupid, idiotic plans and not so winsome acts. It was my second day in my new school I was asked to deliver a speech on wonders of science in the morning assembly. What's the big deal!!??I said this to myself as I nodded my head to say Ok to my teacher. I felt that I would be th thable to do with ease as in my previous school on 26Jan, 15August. (As these were the only chances on One gets)I went and started preparing my speech along with my parents as if I was chosen the president of USA andhad to deliver the speech to my people. I learnt it by heart and recited it in front of the mirror and relatives. I had never ironed my shirt or polished my shoes myself before but on that day I did! Just because I had the gut feeling that with this speech I would become aCelebrity or something. I felt this was the opportunity with the help of which I could announce my entrance into the school. Finally the moment came. My name was announced and I started shivering and my hands were going wayward as if someone was pulling them. My feet moved as if I was playing football.
