    Mostchildrendonotconnectchurchwithfun(andyoumaywellarguethatfunhasnothingtowithit),sohowtoyouinspireaninterestinreligion?Thereappeartobemerelytwoways:youcaneithermakeitmorefunoryoucanforcethem.Weallknowthatcompulsiontendstohavetheoppositeeffectfromtheonedesired,sohowdoyoumakegoingtochurchfunoratleastinteresting?

    ThestartofgoingtochurchaloneformostchildrenisSundaySchool,soyoucouldstartthere.Thisisnotaboutyouoryourreligiouseducation,sowhateveryouhavefaithin,youcouldgoalongtotheSundaySchoolsofafewlocalchurchesandfindoutwhatactivitiestheydo.

    IftheSundayschoolisdullandboring,yourchildwillnotstaythereandmigh

    tbecomeputofffordecadesorevenlife.GoingtochurchortoSundayschoolsshouldbeaboutreligiouseducationandmoralguidancenotaboutcompulsionandpropaganda.

    Youdonothavetobelieveeverythingyourreligiousteachertellsyoutobeagood,moral,religiouspersonnomatterwhichdenominationyoubelongto.Therearenotalotofreligiousteachersinanychurchwhowouldsaythatthey'knowitall'.Iftheydidtheywouldnothavetotoprayforguidancethemselves!

    Activitiesthatyoungchildrenmightfindinterestingareapproximatelythesameasthosetheywoulddoinanormalschool,butwithaslightlymorereligiousbent.Theseinclude:painting,drawing,singing,reading,story-telling,playingandsports.TheextrareadingpracticeatSundayschoolmayreallygiveyourchi

    ldtheedgewhenitcomestothestateschoolcurriculumaswell.

    Olderchildrenwilllikesport,dancing(barndances,line-dancing,ballroomdancing),singing,puttingonplaysanddiscussionclasses.ChildrenoutsidethisenvironmentwillprobablyneveractinaplayorneverlearntoWaltzintheirlives,yetitisabooninlifetohavedoneitatleastonce.

    Debatingisanotherskillthatmostindividualsdonothaveeither.Learningfundraisingandpublicspeakingareexcellentskillsthatarenottaughtofteninstateschoolsanymoreeither.

    IfyourchildrendonotliketheSundayschoolthatyouwantthemtoattend,let

    themgotoadifferentone.Anyextraeducationisbetterthannoneorroamingthestreets.Inmycase,myparentswereSpiritualists,butmymother'sfamilywereCatholics.

    MyschoolwasChurchofWales(sameastheChurchofEngland),theBoyScoutsIwasinwereMethodists,buttheywenttoaBaptistChurchbecauseitwascloser.IenjoyedthesinginginallthechurchesandIstillknowthesongs45yearslater!
