The Title of the Film

The title of the film comes on with a dutch tilted angle of the council estate. This council Estate is important as it can be seen from a lot of places in Bristol so people watching the film that live in Bristol will know exactly where it is set. The tilted angle also gives the shot an eerie effect to it, adding to the interest of the shot and the Horror aspect.

Setting/Location

The first screenshot on the left is the establishing shot in the film opening and it then zooms in on one of the council estates and then leads to the park (Screenshot on the right) where the action takes place. The establishing shot is good as it’s foggy which adds to the horror aspect of the film opening making it spooky, which sets the scene. And also because of the council estates in the shot which tells the audience a bit more about the background of the characters and that they are not upper class.

Costumes/PropsThe costumes used are mostly the typical clothes worn by teenage boys, coats as it’s cold weather, full trousers etc. Nothing flashy or overly expensive letting the audience know they are normal teenage boys who are of working class. Everything normal with the exception of the mask worn by one of the villains which makes him more scary and adds to the horror aspect. The props being the football, as the boys are walking to play football, again typical teenage boy hobbie. And the Toy gun and foam sword used by the villains in the film which add to the comedic aspect of the comedy horror film opening as they aren’t proper weapons.

Camerawork and EditingOn the screenshot in the bottom left I incorporated the zooming in on the council estate with the “In association with… Yzy Studios”. I did this by making the text go larger while it zooms in making it look like it’s zooming in as well. I also put an effect on it so that there was a silhouette for a few seconds before carrying on with the zooming in. Because of how far I had to zoom in I had to use one of my own lenses which zooms in a lot more than the normal lenses, as a result of this it got really close up to the council estate and so the detail on it was very good (Camerawork skills) as seen in the bottom right screenshot. An example of some of the editing I had to do is the scene where the football gets kicked over which is some quite fast editing as there were a lot of clips to show the ball going over in a short time period, as seen with the line of screenshots placed in chronological order below.

Title Font and Style

The screenshot in the bottom left shows the title font and style used for all of the titles in the film opening, apart from the film name title itself. This was the best font/style choice as all the others I found were quite crap and we weren’t allowed to download any custom fonts so we were stuck with the default ones. Even though it was a default font I think it still works quite well with the task and adds to the horror feel of the film. The main film title however doesn't seem to display as much of the horror feel as the other titles do. But it does match the shot very well I think with the colour choice and the black glow to it.

Story and how the opening set it up

The story of the film is of two boys that go to the park to play football. But get separated from one of them kicking the ball over and when he goes to get it he is ambushed by a crazy football stealing gang. The opening sets it up as it shows the two teenage boys walking together with a football right from the start so you straight away can tell what they want to do.

Genre and how the opening suggests it

The genre of the Film is: Comedy Horror. The opening suggests this with the use of scary masks(Horror aspect), the foam sword and toy gun (comedic aspect) and also the sometimes obvious dialogue between the two main characters and reaction to seeing the villain (Also adding to the comedic aspect). And finally for the dialogue the narration setting the tone of the film to be quite scary (once again adding to the horror aspect).

How Characters are introducedThe first thing we see in the film is the screenshot in the bottom right where we see a close up of the grass and some pink hair, which is foreshadowing for the villain character as it’s the same hair from the mask. The villain later appears when the ball has been kicked over and is rolling along the ground but only the feet and legs are shown. The villain is then finally fully shown when one of the two boys are in danger showing the villain with mask and all. The two teenage boys are introduced in the second clip quite early on with a tracking shot from behind of them walking along a path. After a few other clips of them traveling etc to the park there is then a mid shot/close up to show them in more detail and so the audience can connect with them better. After that there are some more mid shot/close ups when they are having a conversation so the audience really connects with them. And the final character in the film opening is the second villain who is introduced and only clip of him coming from out of nowhere to aid the main villain. This shows that the main villain with the mask is definitely the dominant villain as he gets the most attention as well as the other villain just shows up randomly with a foam sword, which could also add to the comedic aspect of the film opening.
