The Wayland Hockey Association welcomes all friends

of ice hockey in our local schools to another exciting year.

2009-2010 promises to be a terrific year for all our school

teams.

Many thanks to our loyal supporters and advertisers

who are participating alongside our student athletes

through their generous support of our annual golf outing,

our website (new last year,) and our new comprehensive

program guide. In this guide, you will meet student ath-

letes, coaches, school administrators, support crews, and

many advertisers who continue to support a decades old

tradition of ice hockey in our schools.

See you at the rink!

Principals’ Messages

Athletic Director’s Message

At last the puck drops on the 2009-2010 hockey season! Congratulations to all our students who have devoted themselves to their sport. We are proud to have you represent our schools and

our community. Dedication, effort and above all, true sportsmanship, will mark your days as players. Enjoy playing for the sake of the game, and make the memories that will last a lifetime. Tradition. Excellence. Pride. Have a great season! Pat Tutwiler Wayland High School Principal

Wayland High School’s Athletic Department welcomes everyone to the 2009-2010 season. Wayland is putting more skaters on the ice every year. We’re thrilled to welcome boys’ varsity coach Eric Brown to Wayland. With junior varsity and growing middle school teams, hockey participation in Wayland has never been so strong. Coach Bill MacDonald’s girls program now features skaters from elementary schools to middle schools to high school, and partners with skaters in neighboring Weston.

Ice hockey requires total dedication not only from the skaters and coaches, but from their families and our entire community. Countless hours spent in rinks, often at inconvenient times, over many years are required to gain the skills necessary to play competitive school hockey. Fielding full teams also requires substantial financial commitment from parents. We thank the Wayland Hockey Association and its many supporters for their efforts to publish this program, and to make possible our school ice hockey teams.

We look forward to an exciting, wonderful season and wish all the players, coaches and teams the best of luck.

Martha Jamieson, WHS Athletic Director

Weston is very proud of all our girls who are playing hockey this winter. Keep-ing active, meeting new friends, and competing in a sportsmanlike setting are hallmarks of a happy successful athletic life.

We are very pleased our girls have the opportunity to learn, to compete, and to excel with their Wayland teammates. Our partnership with the Wayland Hockey Association enables more girls to play ice hockey. Thank you to the families and businesses that support the Wayland Hockey Association. Go Wayland/Weston Girl Hockey Players! Have a great season!

recognize

Mrs. Joyce Robsham

for her unwavering support of

Wayland Hockey

over many years.

Thanks to the Wayland Historical Society

for providing the photographs that appear

on the front cover of our program. Hockey

has a rich tradition in our town. These pic-

tures feature the Cochituate Huskies 1940

team. A winter rink was situated on Way-

land’s south side, near the present day

softball fields. Admissions were charged,

and local semi-professional games played.

Great-grandchildren of these players are

listed on this year’s school rosters.

Pucks aren’t the only precious,

round treasure worth chasing.

Hockey Is Growing in Our Schools!

Today, more children are learning to

skate and to play ice hockey than ever

before. And the chances for them to play

are expanding as well.

Wayland Hockey affords an opportunity to

learn to have fun on ice skates at an early

age, to develop fundamental hockey skills

at the middle school level, and finally to

flourish in the sport in a competitive high

school environment.

We’re excited to be putting more student

athletes, both boys and girls, on the ice

every year — and in their school jersey!

Thank you for helping us do this.

Wayland/Weston Schools GIRLS DEVELOPMENT

Thank you, Weston Boosters!

STARTING GIRLS HOCKEY

Each winter, the Wayland Hockey Association and the Weston Skating Club join forces to offer

a Developmental Hockey program. New skaters are encouraged to participate on Saturday

and Sunday mornings at nearby Rivers School rink in Weston. Girls are taught basics, and

given the opportunity to play on either a Development team or the Girls' Wayland/Weston

Middle School Team.

For more information about starting girls hockey contact Coach Bill MacDonald in

Wayland, or the Weston Skating Club at www.westonskate.org on the internet.

We’re at Rivers School ice rink most Saturday mornings during

the winter. Come see how much fun girls ice hockey can be!

Since 1983, WPSF has raised $1.7 million for 500

teacher grants. With school budgets under continual

pressure, WPSF's grants are increasingly important to

maintaining the tradition of excellence in Wayland

classrooms. Your donations improve the quality of

classroom instruction.

What We Do

High Impact

WPSF has established a tradition of innovation in our

schools by funding grant proposals submitted by

Wayland teachers and staff for cutting-edge programs

that would otherwise go unfunded. Often we provide

the seed money for new teaching approaches that take

root and spread to other classrooms. This is possible

only through generous community support of our Annual

Appeal, Fall Party, HATS Off Teacher Appreciation

Program and Annual Elementary School Spelling Bee.
