Dear Mr. Maguire:

We are glad to verify your report on our special DX program broadcast early February 5th. Your report checks with our log, so you can add this letter to your collection of verifications.

From reports, especially those received from the east coast, we've learned that we had quite some interference from several southern stations who were doing some testing while we were running this DX program. Sorry, because we expected to have a cleared channel, and if we had had the DXers would have had more fun in logging us. We envy you your nice weather. It was zero the nite we put on this special broadcast - and this has been a very very cold winter, and right now we all wish we were down south somewhere where it is sunny and warm.

Thanks for your nice letter and report. Best wishes.

Dear Sir:

August 29, 1960

This will confirm your report of reception of our signal on August 21st, beginning at 5:30 a.m. central daylight time. I talked with the announcer mentioned in your report, and we can very definitely confirm that you did receive our signal.

You might also be interested to know that we received a report of the same transmission from a fellow in New Zealand. To my knowledge, this is the first report of reception from either of these two locations.

We are feeding 5000 watts to a simple directional array consisting of two towers approximately a quarter wave length in height, exactly one quarter wave apart (213.97') on a line bearing 8° East of true North.

This array radiates a figure eight pattern with the cen- ter of the major lobe South 80 West and the center of the North lobe is of course 8° East of North.

I am amazed how some hams can get such a terrific kick out of broadcast listening. I have held a ham ticket, (W9VP0) since 1936, and although due to the press of business I have been unable to pursue the hobby for the last seven or eight years, it still holds a great fas- cination for me.
