Interested in the riverside city’s growthand development, a private developmentalcompany offers the Waterous brothers free landin South Saint Paul to build a new factory.Waterous develops the first frost shield hydrantand the steam powered horse drawn fire pump.

1887 The city of South Saint Paul is incorporated.

Ironic as it may seem the Waterousfactory burned down and a new factory wasbuilt in St. Paul along the West Side leveeand next to the Robert Street Bridgeoverlooking the Mississippi River.

1898 Already known for their horse drawn steamengines, Waterous revolutionizes the industry by introducingthe first gasoline powered horse drawn fire pump.

Again, tragedy strikes and the buildingburned to the ground. This time the factory is rebuiltat the same St. Paul site.
