What is Waterjet Cutting?Waterjet cutting is a unique process that provides a good quality cut edge and typically eliminates

the need for secondary finishing processes. As the name implies, a waterjet takes ordinary tap water and turns it into a powerful and effective cutting tool, able to cut through a 6" slab of stainless steel.

How does it work?Abrasive waterjet uses purified and chilled water and pressurizes it up to 60,000 PSI,

which then forces it through a .014” diamond orifice creating a super-sonic cutting stream.

This pressurized water is traveling so fast that it creates a ventury, drawing the crushed garnet into the cutting stream which physically erodes the material out of the way (much like liquid sandpaper).

Unlike thermal cutting (i.e. flame, plasma & laser) which heat the material beyond its melting temperature and blowing it out of the way, waterjet is more known to be a cold cutting process.

Cuts Virtually AnythingWaterjets are able to cut just about any material, including:

• Copper• Brass• Aluminum• Pre-hardened Steel• Mild Steel• 304 Stainless Steel• Brittle Materials

• Laminated Material• Flammable Material• Glass• Plastic• Wood• Titanium• Heat-treated Alloys

Advantages of Waterjets• Cuts virtually any material• No heat-affected zone, meaning waterjets do not change the

properties of the material• Does not require uniformity of material• Better tolerances on thicker parts• Provides a variety of edge qualities• Ability to make intricate cut designs• Incredible precision• Allows for near net shapes for difficult to machine materials

and shapes
