Dear Fellow Unicans,
It’s official for the first time!
Happy Italian American
Heritage Month in CT Hooray!!
Thanks to the efforts of our
b rot her Un i can , F r ank
Travisano, and our CT
Legislators we finally have
acknowledgment from the
State of CT of the many
accomplishments and
successes of the many
Italian Americans residing
in CT. We are the fifth
largest ethnic group in the
United States and we should
be proud of our Italian
heritage. Show your pride.
Attend the many cultural
events happening during the
month of October. We honored
John Lombardo as Italian
Mayor for the Day and Father
Ferraro did not let us forget all
that our ancestors had to endure
to better themselves and their
descendants. Let us show the
world that we honor our
ancestors struggles, their
accomplishments and the doors
they opened for us in this great
country.
I am so excited about our Italian
American Heritage Night on
Tuesday, October 22nd at the
TimeExpo Museum at 6:30 p.m..
I would like to thank our Co-

Note From President
Congratulations to UNICAN John Lombardo who was honored as
our Waterbury Italian-American Mayor for the Day on October 11th.
Starting with a touching Mass and thought provoking Homily by Fr.
Ferraro and followed by a procession to City Hall, the well-attended
ceremony paid homage to the great Christopher Columbus, UNICO
and the contributions of ALL Italian-Americans. Our “mayor” John
Lombardo was bestowed the golden “key to the city” from Mayor Neil
O’Leary in recognition of the Lombardo Family’s service to the City.
A dozen Waterbury UNICANS
attended the CT/MA Meet the
President Night welcoming UNICO
National President Michael Veselka to
New England. 67 UNICANS from
Connecticut, Massachusetts and New
Jersey enjoyed the fabulous meal at ARIA and listened to an inspiring speech by President Veselka.

October is Italian-American
Heritage Month Every year the president of the United States signs an executive order designating the
month of October as National Italian American Heritage Month, in recognition of the
many achievements and contributions made to American culture by persons of Italian
heritage. This past year in Connecticut, it was passed into law that October is “Italian-
American Heritage Month”. To celebrate, we invite you to explore the pages and sites

Dear Fellow UNICANS On Tuesday, October 22nd, we are hosting an Open House & Italian Heritage Reception in celebration of Italian-American Heritage Month. The event will take place at the Time Expo Museum on Union Street in Waterbury from 6:30pm- 9:00pm. Admission is free and the event is open to the public. We are honored to have PNP Andre DeMino, current UNICO Executive Director, attend and serve as master of ceremonies that evening. The intent of the program is to help people "re-discover their Italian heritage" and ultimately join UNICO. The evening will have a social, light & fun atmosphere and will feature food tastings, Italian lessons, demonstrations & cultural exhibits. Commitments have been secured from D’Amelio’s, Pasta Gallery, Como Bakery, Mario's Pizza, Marisa Famiglietti and others…..it’s going to be a great night. Invitations have been sent out to over 200 Italian-American business owners & professionals. Flyers have been posted at local businesses and on our facebook page. We need you to spread the word as well…share the flyer, print the flyer & post, and most importantly – attend and BRING A FRIEND OR TWO!! While we have budgeted for the venue and most food, the committee has created a “wish list” of additional items that are needed that evening. Items needed: Coffee Cups Cocktail Napkins Small clear cups Small plates Sugar & Creamer Baked goods – cookies, bread (cut in slices), Italian pastry, etc. Limoncello - 4 bottles Red Wine- 7 bottles White Wine- 7 bottles Bottles Water – 2 cases (small bottles) Any other item to add to our dessert or appetizer tables Your support is appreciated. If you are able to supply any of the items listed or wish to make a monetary donation, please contact Angela Buzzelli at 203.879.5653 or [email protected] ASAP!!! In the meantime….start spreading the news and we’ll see you on the 22nd!!! If you want a flyer to send or post….let us know as well!!
