Ultra Violet Disinfection UnitsUltra Violet disinfection is a nonchemical treatment capable of in-activating all pathogenic microorganisms within a matter of seconds.The Benefits

Chlorine DioxideSOCOTEC’s Chlorine Dioxide generator is designed with health and safety in mind.Our unit utilises a specially designed uPVC injector block with an integral reaction chamber incorporating a special catalyst element to ensure complete conversion of the precursor chemicals to Chlorine Dioxide gas. Two precursor products are dosed independently to the mixing block where they react safely to form Chlorine Dioxide. The injector can be installed to dose direct into pipework or suspended in a tank or cooling tower pond.The Benefits

• No production of Chlorine Dioxide gas - our generatorsare designed so that Chlorine Dioxide is producedwithin the water pipework, not outside

OzoneOzone is capable of destroying all bacteria, algae and biofilms with no risk of resistance build up or immunity. Even resistant and problematic aqueous microorganisms, such as Giardia, Cryptosporidium, Streptococcus Faecalis and E.coli, causing grave human health concerns in potable water, are readily and rapidly inactivated by Ozone.Ozone is the most powerful oxidising agent permitted for use at this time, as an oxidising agent it is 51% stronger than chlorine and has a kill rate of 3.125 times faster. Ozone readily oxidises organic material in bacterial membranes which weakens the cell wall and leads to cell rupture causing immediate death of the cell.The Benefits

CLOSED WATER SYSTEMS

In closed water and Glycol systems the interiors of heat exchangers and pipes are rarely seen. Problems such as corrosion, scaling and fouling can cause high energy consumption and poor heat transfer.

Most estates and facilities managers know that systems are best protected when the chemistry of the circulating water is routinely monitored and corrected to prevent the deterioration of the systems. In other words, they understand that protective monitoring must be applied if systems are to perform at their optimum levels for many years.However, the use of Cobra hydro-cyclone separation can be a major asset in maintaining the cleanliness of these systems by removing corrosive matter, sludge and debris which are the major problems associated with closed circuit systems.

COBRA CYCLONE SEPARATORS

Driven by the inlet pressure, the water or liquid with particles enters the top chamber at a tangent causing a rotation, and accelerates through the tangential slots/holes in the top section of the separator, down into the centre section of the separator, causing rapid rotation within the central section.

The rotation of the liquid forms a vortex in the centre of the separator. The centrifugal action forces the separation of suspended particles from the water. The separated particles accumulate in the bottom collection chamber where they are periodically purged. The cleaned water flows through the central vortex from the top of the cyclone with a constant minimal pressure drop.

WATER SOFTENERS AND MEDIA FILTERS

The need to reduce the hardness of water is the most common form of water treatment. Hard water is created when naturally soft rain water percolates through subterranean rockstrata and dissolves many solids, in particular, calcium and magnesium.

This can lead to the following problems:

• Reduced efficiency due to scale build up• Soaps and detergents become less effective

A cost effective way solve these problems is to remove the dissolved hard mineral salts from the water, replacing or exchanging them with ‘soft salts’ which are more soluble and therefore do not form hard scale. This is achieved by using one of our wide range of fully automatic water softeners. In addition to ion exchange softening, SOCOTEC offers carbon, iron and manganese and mixed bed filtration.

WATER TREATMENT PRODUCTSChemical DosingThe majority of closed/open systems require chemical water treatment to combat corrosion, bacteria or pH. This is managed by periodic injection of tailored chemicals to manage the water and keep it within the parameters permitted by the system and insurers. Dosing options available are automatic chemical dosing or dosing pots.

Reverse Osmosis (RO)RO uses membrane technology to filter 95% of the mineral and bacteriological content within the supply water, thus it is used as a way of introducing high quality water to closed systems, steam boilers and in recycling bleed water from cooling towers/evaporative condensers.Physical Water ConditionersWater performs many vital functions but not all its features are equally beneficial in all applications. 70 per cent of the UK has water that is naturally hard, this water contains dissolved minerals such as calcium bicarbonate; when these revert to their solid carbonate state, limescale is formed. In water systems, this narrows pipes, blocks jets, slows the flow, reduces thermal efficiency and provides a breeding ground for bacteria.The SOCOTEC Scalewatcher is an electronic descaler that is applied externally to the pipework. It uses modern microprocessors and signal processing techniques to produce a complex, modulating frequency waveform. When this is applied to the water, the energy induced in the water is sufficient to cause the premature precipitation of the calcium. Because precipitation occurs in the bulk of the water, the crystals seed onto other naturally occurring ions, such as zinc, copper, iron, etc. This insures they remain in suspension until discharged to drain and not creating scale build up within the system.
