What is this “Water” thing anyway?

Water is a substance that happens when one oxygen and two hydrogen molecules mix, therefore it could be called “dihydrogen oxide together they create the wonderful substance that covers over two thirds of the planet named simply: Water.

Water’s harming/changing abilities.

Water in in its natural form can be devastating, it can destroy whole villages, by just coming down a mountain, it can dissolve a surprisingly large amount of things and through all that, creatures still live in it.

Water can be frozen in to Ice when cold temperatures are applied, this results in a sharp, hard and cold, Lump of cold material which adds into the harming category.

Water in its gas form is called Steam. It can be sprayed from a container to “scald” the skin. though the water must be heated to boiling temperature before you use it. This could also be used to make a ‘cup of tea’

Waters harming/changing abilities, Part two!

When water is heated it evaporates, and the molecules expand, to create a massive cloud of water molecules.

When water is frozen, it expands (just like steam) but it is dense (not like steam), and oddly enough, floats in water, a common/extremely odd phenomenon.

Waters “Misc” abilities.

Water’s ability to keep living things in it, is remarkable; creatures have evolved the ability to breathe in the substance, and the majority of them never leave it. this could be because most of them can’t breath out of water, so why if the reverse applies to us, why do we ‘go for a swim’.

There are one point three billion cubic kilometers of water on earth. Just putting it out there.

Water as a “thing”

Water is an amazing substance, Bill Bryson in his book ‘A Short History Of Nearly Everything’ has said about water, “Imagine trying to live in a world dominated by dihydrogen oxide, a compound that has no taste or smell and is so variable in its properties that is is generally benign but at other times swiftly lethal”. He is right, we are surrounded by a substance that can kill us.

A Watery Conclusion.

In this short assignment I have written about one thing: Water, the truly amazing substance that can kill, save, break or better your life. It all depends on how you exploit it.
