WHAT IS WATER CRISIS?

A Water Crisis is a situation where the available portable , unpolluted water within a region is

less than that region’s demand.

Inadequate access to safe drinking water for about 884 million

people.Inadequate access to sanitation for 2.5 billion people, which often

leads to water pollution.Groundwater over drafting (excessive use) leading to diminished

  agricultural yieldsOveruse and pollution of water resources harming biodiversity

Regional conflicts over scarce water resources sometimes

resulting in warfare

Water provides the Earth with the capacity of

supporting life. Water has always been

perceived as a gift from the god as it rained from the

heavens. Water has played a role not

only in the history of countries, but in religion,

mythology, and art. Water is our lifeline that

feeds us. In ancient cultures water represented the very

essence of life.

Water is necessary for power generation that is one of the basic need.

The  BOLIVIA Water War was a series of protests that took

place in Bolivia's third largest city, between December 1999 and April 2000 in response to the privatization of the city's

municipal water supply company “Semapa”.

In ancient times, houses in parts of western

Rajasthan were built so that each had a rooftop

water harvesting system. Rainwater from these

rooftops was directed into underground tanks. This system can be seen even

today in all the forts, palaces and houses of the

region.

India?

• Ground water is limited in India and it is soon being depleted. On account of water crisis, farmers have been using a tremendous amount of such water for their crops. Bringing back ground water level is a natural phenomenon.

• Preserve the Lakes and Forest and populate them. Population should be managed.

• Less pressure on resources can be kept .

• Already a billion people, or one in seven people on the planet, lack access to safe drinking water. Britain, of course, is currently at the other extreme. Great swaths of the country are drowning in misery, after a series of Atlantic storms off the south-western coast. But that too is part of the picture that has been coming into sharper focus over 12 years of the Grace satellite record. Countries at northern latitudes and in the tropics are getting wetter. But those countries at mid-latitude are running increasingly low on water.
