Ensure you have a stable internetconnection and a quiet workingenvironment to guarantee your bestperformance

Round 2: Odd one outThe 8 best contestants will be chosen toparticipate in the 2nd round.At this stage the contestants will be dividedinto 4 groups, comprised of 2 people each.The teams will be randomly given a topic todebate and 3 minutes to prepare. After thispreparation time, the two members in thegroup will be required to debate one anotheron the selected topic (under the control of anMC).NOTE: The number of candidates selectedfor Round 2 can be changed depending onthe quality and quantity of participants.ATTN: There will be three judges involved inthis round to observe and assess thespeakers’ performance. Also, the talk will berecorded as an additional reference.Time: Maximum of 10 minutes per group fordebatingTopics: There are a total of 5 topics for the2nd Round. Topics are kept confidential untilcandidates are allocated a topic for debateduring the round.

Schedule: 17th to 18th JulyAssessment: The Judgment Board willassess the performance of each individualand will reach a final decision by Monday19th July.NOTE: It is possible that both speakers froma group in the 2nd Round may be chosen to

The 3 best contestants from Round 2 will bechosen to participate in the 3rd and finalround.Each candidate will be required to present atopic assigned by the Judgment Board,followed by questions from the judgesregarding their performance.Note: The conference and presentations willbe recorded.Time: Maximum of 30 minutes for eachcontestantSchedule: 24th - 25th JulyAssessment: The Judgment Board willassess the performance of each contestantand make a final decision and announce awinner by the 26th of July.Prizes: There will be prizes awarded to the 3finalists, and in addition, the 1st Place prizewinner will be featured in the WATAMagazine and WATA Radio Online.

Nguyen Anh Linh received anAusAID scholarship to study inAustralia in 2004 and graduatedin 2007 with a medal from theUniversity of New South Wales(UNSW), holding a Bachelor ofScience (Honors) in FoodScience and Technology. Nowpursuing his PhD, Linh isworking in a joint researchproject between the CSIROFood and Nutritional ScienceDivision and UNSW. Known as“Hannibal” among WATAmembers, Linh is the editor-in-chief of Walkie Talkie OnlineMagazine where his proficiencyin English is divided in bothwriting and editing. He hasbeen a tutor, a translator, avolunteer; all of which haveequipped him with uniqueexperience in both academicand spoken English. We arethrilled to have Hannibal as oneof the judges for Wata Voice.

A native speaker of English fromAustralia, Ashton is currentlyworking for a non-governmentorganization called AdventistDevelopment and Relief Agencyin Vietnam, carrying out programsin health, education and incomegeneration in Hanoi, Cao Bang,and Binh Phuoc. She holds aBachelor of Arts in History,Government and InternationalRelations from the University ofSydney, and a Master ofInternational Relations fromMacquarie University. Ashton hasvast experience in volunteer work,a passion for traveling, and agenuine interest in global issuessuch as poverty and humanrights. WATA is honored to haveher as a friend and a judge for thisspeaking contest which aims toencourage English learners inVietnam to speak English withmore confidence, especially toforeigners.

Having just returned to Vietnamafter attending an English writingresidency in Vermont - USA,Chau is going to join Hannibaland Ashton to judge the WataVoice contest. A WATA membersince 2008, she is a speaker atour English & Soft Skills events,an editor for our onlinemagazine, and also acontributing writer andphotographer for our and a fewother publications. Working as amarketing manager in her dayjob, Chau is also a visitinglecturer at the SaigonTechnology University, and afreelance screenplay translator.Back in school days, she wasthe winner of several awards forEnglish including third prize forEnglish in Ho Chi Minh City highschool academic contest, andfirst prize in the corporatesongwriting contest of theManagement DevelopmentInstitute of Singapore. She holdsa Bachelor of Arts in LiberalStudies with concentration onMass Communications fromOklahoma City University, USA.
