Mount VernonEight miles south of Alexandria is the most visited historic estate in America, George Washington’s Mount Vernon. Visitors are able to tour the grounds, view the farm and gardens, and even visit President Washington’s final resting place.
Ford’s TheatreOn April 14, 1865, Abraham Lincoln paid his twelfth visit to Ford’s Theatre for a much-needed night out. Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth and died the next morning. For more than 100 years the theatre was closed, reopening in 1968 as a historic site and working theatre.
