Join UW-Madison Division of Continuing Studies for a weekend of education, history, and the arts in our nation’s capital. This visit to DC is built around music, musical theater, and American history, but of course there’s plenty of free time to visit institutions that hold the most personal interest for you.

It all begins on Thursday evening at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts with the National Symphony Orchestra presenting an all-French lineup highlighted by Ravel’s famous Boléro. The concert also includes works by Debussy and Bizet, as well as flamboyant organist Cameron Carpenter performing Poulenc's "Organ Concerto."

On Friday morning you visit the fascinating International Spy Museum in a brand new space just off the National Mall. This engaging museum offers a unique experience that addresses practical, personal, and controversial aspects of this fascinating part of human history. The rest of the day is yours to spend as you wish. Friday evening you rejoin the group to attend the heralded 50th anniversary production of the iconic musical Jesus Christ Superstar!

Saturday is completely unscheduled so that you may visit those places in our capital that hold the most interest for you. Regardless of how you spend your day, your group activities resume that evening with a fun, semi-staged performance of the hit musical from the early 1960s, Bye Bye Birdie. As part of the Kennedy Center’s Broadway Center Stage series, which uses casts from Broadway, this will be an exciting evening of high-level theater.

Finally, on Sunday, we turn our educational focus toward our nation’s origin and history as we drive down to Mount Vernon, where we will spend the day learning about the life and times of George Washington. In addition to the fascinating exhibits about George and Martha Washington, this visit will also include a sightseeing cruise on the Potomac River to learn about the history of the original inhabitants of the region, as well as the river’s role in the Civil War and Washington’s business ventures.

Please join us for what is sure to be a fun, educational, and memorable weekend in our nation’s capital.
