Happy Easter!“Just when I thought there would be no more light in the Jerusalem sky, the Bright and Morning Star appeared, and the darkness has not overcome it.” from “Easter” by Ann Weems

Welcome to Easter Sunday Worship Celebration at Warwick Memorial United Methodist Church. We are so blessed that you have joined us on this joyous Sunday. We praise God once more for the gift of God’s amazing love for us made known in Jesus Christ. In today’s worship, we pray that you find joy, meaning and welcome here. We also hope that you will join us again. The Warwick Weekly provides an overview of upcoming events and activities. We look forward to you joining us again soon. Our Pastors Are Excited. . .“Fresh Expressions” Makes Them Happy!

This picture was taken as they filmed video to promote our worship series, Fresh Expressions, that will begin next Sunday, April 8th. Why do they appear to be having so much fun? Because the joy of The Resurrection is contagious, and thank goodness, it does not go away on Easter Sunday. Join us next week as we talk about real ways to share and express Christian faith in today’s world, learning from lessons taught in the scriptures. Once we are on the path of being a disciple of Jesus, we discover that we have a calling, but how do we best live that out in our busy, often chaotic lives? This series calls us to think about and nurture deep friendships that form extensions of God’s in-viting grace to a world around us. Let’s get real and work on fresh expressions of an amazing God, because we all know the world needs to learn about and live the way of Jesus Christ. See you next week in church at 8:30am, 9am, or 11:15am.

A Way to Bless Others: Share Today What The Resurrection Means to YouPlease find one of four posters around the church today to write a note about what the miracle of the resurrection means to you. The artwork from children and youth scrolling before worship and during the pastor’s sermon in The Lamp-stand Service was completed in response to the ques-tion: What does Easter mean to you? Thank you to our Sunday evening M&M’s and The Pumpkin Patch Sunday School Class for an amazing job! Next week you can check out their artwork on the bulletin boards in the Narthex and the Gathering Area.

Things of Interest . . .

FOB Contd. from page 1If those facts weren’t enough, there are many verses in scripture telling us to care for our brothers and sisters. As an example:

• Philippians 2:4 -- do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. • Proverbs 21:13 He who shuts his ear to the cry of the poor will also cry himself and not be answered. • 1 John 3:17-18 But whoever has the world’s goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him? • Matthew 25:40 “The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’You can give with cash using the special Easter envelope inside the Warwick Weekly; you can write a check and make sure to note in the memo line it is for the special Lenten offering for the Honduran village. If you have downloaded the app on your phone, just follow the link and give using your credit card. Reflection on the Miracle of Ressurection(Adapted from “Made for a Miracle” by Mike Slaughter)

Today Jesus is calling you by name, inviting you to step into your own miracle, beckoning you to risk forward in faith into God’s miracles, for the good of the world that God so loves. Today is the day of

salvation! Throw off everything that hinders you, and let’s invite God to transform our ordinary into God’s extraordinary. Then, together, we will change the world one life at a time, starting with our own.

Happy Easter!

All God’s Children Summer CampsWhat is All God’s Children Camp? Children, ages 7 to 12, with an incarcerated mother or father, spend a week at camp, participating in activities such as boating, swimming, hiking, archery, music, crafts, Bible study, and conflict resolution. Partnering with Virginia United Methodist camps, All God’s Children Camp provides a week of sanctuary for children who face so many challenges in their lives: economic poverty; temporary living conditions; loneliness; low self-esteem; violence; and drugs. One of our most critical needs for our 2018 summer camps are male and female mentors at all three locations: June 17-29: Camp Chanco on the James (Richmond area)June 24-29: Camp Overlook (Shenandoah Valley area)July 29-August 3: Occohannock on the Bay (Eastern Shore)Other needs include twin sheet sets, pillows, blankets and beach towels. As always, monetary donations are needed. It costs $400.00 to send a child to camp so any size donation is appreciated.]

If you have any questions, please contact Jim Rogers at [email protected]. Jim volunteered at the camp last year.

Holy Week Thank You: Thank you to EVERYONE who has helped this week to make all our worship services, Prayer Journey, and other Easter events a huge success. The choirs were amazing, the drama team was amazing, our children and youth leaders ARE amazing, all volun-teers who stepped up to help with stuffing eggs, stuffing bulletins, moving tables and chairs, and moving chairs again, directing traffic in the parking lot, putting out signs, youth leading worship for Sonrise service and for making our church a welcoming place to be. The Pastors, Ministry Teams and Leadership Team thank you.

Pastoral Transition Note from Your Senior Pastors

Last Sunday we announced that in late June, the Cloud family will be leaving Newport News and an amazing faith community at Warwick Memorial United Methodist Church. We are deeply thankful for the love and support we have received over the last five years.

We are very excited to announce that Pastor Bert will be appointed to serve as the Pastor for St. Matthias United Methodist Church in the Fredericksburg/Southern Stafford area on the Rappahannock District. Pastor Gina will be appointed to serve as the Sr. Pastor of Fredericksburg UMC in Fredericksburg. This is a thriving community and we are really excited and hopeful about this next chapter of ministry.

The last five years have been a true blessing in our lives, and we are so thankful for the great relationships that we will hold so dear at this remarkable church where we have served, side by side, as senior pastors. It is hard to say goodbye, and we know that God has great plans for such a fruitful church.

Please pray for our family and these communities. Pastor’s kids are like military kids with transitions. Our three are hanging in there, and this is a well timed move for the high school life of our youngest two.

The Cabinet and Bishop are working on our successors and we should have that news sometime in April. We are praying and preparing for the incoming folks; also with great hope for what is to come.

Lots of emotions, some of them difficult and others hopeful, but we are thankful to God for the gift of it all.

God Bless you all, Pastor Bert and Pastor Gina

Household Prayers Morning: Heavenly God, our Father, I am full of thanks for a night of rest and for this new day and all that now awaits me. I go forward toward encounters with family and friends, work and play, and all that will bring me into contact with strangers, certain that you are with me. Lead and guide me in the way of a resurrected life. Help me to see the risen Lord today; in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Evening: Holy God, our Mother, you are my comfort at the end as at the beginning of each day. You pull me toward the goodness you desire for me. I give you thanks for all that has come my way this day, and I ask your enveloping power to watch over me this night. Give rest to all your people. Wherever there is pain and struggle, may your holy angels bring peace; in Jesus’ name. Amen.
