    Receives USEF Heritage Competition Status

    From the USEF Communications DepartmentLexington, KY – The Warrenton Horse Show, hosted by the Warrenton Horse Show Association, has beenhonored with the United States Equestrian Federation’s designation as a USEF Heritage Competition, thehighest honor currently held by any Federation horse show.

    The designation of a USEF Heritage Competition is reserved for competitions that have been in existencefor a quarter-century or more, promoted and grown equestrian sport, and made contributions to thecommunity outside the gates of the horse show by achieving, maintaining, and promoting the equestrianideals of sportsmanship and competition.

    Founded in 1899, the Warrenton Horse Show Association is the oldest continuously operating corporationin Virginia and represents the interests of horse show enthusiasts, competitors, horse breeders and the

    community of Warrenton, Virginia. The ve-day show offers a variety of competition classes includingladies sidesaddle, hunters, jumpers, hunting pairs and more.

    The Warrenton Horse Show benets several organizations, including the Fauquier Health Foundation, theFauquier Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Bright Stars, the Make A Wish Foundation andother local charities.

    “The Warrenton Horse Show is one of the oldest equestrian exhibitions of its kind in the United States,”said USEF Chief Executive Ofcer John Long. “With its long tenure and many charitable contributions, both national and local, the show exemplies everything the USEF looks for when designating a HeritageCompetition.”

    SHOW RULES AND REGULATIONSEvery class offered herein which is covered by the rules and specications of the current USEF Rule Book will be conducted and

     judged in accordance therewith.

    LIFE, SENIOR ACTIVE AND JUNIOR ACTIVE MEMBERS SHALL BE ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN ALL CLASSESAT REGULAR COMPETITIONS, EVENTING COMPETITIONS AT THE PRELIMINARY LEVEL OR ABOVE ANDCOMBINED DRIVING COMPETITIONS AT THE ADVANCED LEVEL, DRESSAGE, REINING AND VAULTINGCOMPETITIONS AND ENDURANCE RIDES. A NONMEMBER MAY PARTICIPATE AS A HANDLER, RIDER, DRIVEROWNER, LESSEE, AGENT, COACH OR TRAINER AT REGULAR COMPETITIONS, EVENTING COMPETITIONSDRESSAGE COMPETITIONS, REINING COMPETITIONS AND COMBINED DRIVING COMPETITIONS UPON

    PAYMENT OF A $30 SHOW PASS FEE. PARTICIPANTS IN THE FOLLOWING CLASSES ARE EXEMPTED FROM THEREQUIREMENTS OF THIS RULE: 1) LEADLINE; 2) EXHIBITIONS; 3) GAMES AND RACES; 4) CLASSES FOR 4-HMEMBERS; 5) WALK TROT AND ACADEMY CLASSES (ACADEMY CLASSES ARE CLASSES LIMITED TO HORSESUSED REGULARLY IN A LESSON PROGRAM); 6) USDF INTRODUCTORY LEVEL TESTS, PAS DE DEUX ANDQUADRILLE CLASSES; 7) NRHA ENDORSED REINING COMPETITIONS. 8) OPPORTUNITY CLASSES, 9) CITIZENSOF OTHER NATIONS WHO HAVE PROOF, IN ENGLISH, OF CURRENT MEMBERSHIP IN GOOD STANDING OFTHEIR OWN NATIONAL FEDERATION, 10) USEA BEGINNER NOVICE DIVISION; AND 11) ASSISTANT HANDLERSIN DRESSAGE SPORT HORSE BREEDING CLASSES.

    By entering a Federation-licensed Competition and signing this entry blank as the Owner, Lessee, Trainer, Manager, Agent, Coach,Driver, Rider, Handler, Vaulter or Longeur and on behalf of myself and my principals, representatives, employees and agents, I agreethat I am subject to the Bylaws and Rules of The United States Equestrian Federation, Inc. (the “Federation”) and the local rules of theCompetition. I agree to be bound by the Bylaws and Rules of the Federation and of the competition. I will accept as nal the decision ofthe Hearing Committee on any question arising under the Rules, and agree to release and hold harmless the Competition, the Federation

    their ofcials, directors and employees for any action taken under the Rules. I represent that I am eligible to enter and/or participate under the Rules, and every horse I am entering is eligible as entered. I also agree that as a condition of and in consideration of acceptanceof entry, the Federation and/or the Competition may use or assign photographs, videos, audios, cable-casts, broadcasts, internet, lmnew media or other likenesses of me and my horse taken during the course of the Competition for the promotion, coverage or benetof the Competition, sport, or the Federation. Those likenesses shall not be used to advertise a product and they may not be used in sucha way as to jeopardize amateur status. I hereby expressly and irrevocably waive and release any rights in connection with such useincluding any claim to compensation, invasion of privacy, right of publicity, or to misappropriation. The construction and applicationof Federation rules are governed by the laws of the State of New York, and any action instituted against the Federation must be led inNew York State. See GR908.4.

    REGULAR ENTRIES CLOSE AUGUST 18, 2015. Entries received after this date will be accepted at the regular fee plus be chargeda late fee of $20.00 per horse. ALL WARRENTON HORSE SHOW BREEDING ENTRIES WILL CLOSE ONE HOUR PRIOR TOTHE CLASS.

    EXHIBITOR NUMBERS WILL NOT BE ISSUED UNTIL ALL REQUIRED INFORMATION, SIGNATURES, AND FEESOR OPEN CHECK HAVE BEEN PRESENTED TO THE SHOW SECRETARY, including the original or a copy of all USEFmembership and measurement cards and a Negative Coggins Test report taken within one (1) year on each animal exhibited. All Amateur exhibitors must present their Amateur cards and must list their ages on all entry blanks. Entries must be submitted on the printedEntry Blank or an exact photocopy thereof. Entries must be signed by the exhibitor; the rider or handler; and the trainer; or by theagent(s) of such person(s). Exhibitors are responsible for all fees of all horses/ponies/riders entered by them or their agents even thoughpayment for these fees is not submitted with the entry blank. Exhibitors are responsible for their errors and those of their agents. TheWarrenton Horse Show will not be responsible for misinterpretation of handwriting. In order for the starters to have accurate informationon horse, owner and rider, entries must be made at the horse show ofce.

    SCRATCHES AND REFUNDS: Horses scratched before the August 18, 2015 closing day will receive a full refund on entry feesAfter August 18, 2015, refunds of entry and drug fees will be issued only upon notication and receipt of a veterinarian’s certicatestating that the horse is not physically t to be shown. Once the show starts, refunds of entry and drug fees will be issued only if the horsehas not been shown in any class because of illness or injury. A statement signed by a veterinarian must be submitted to the show secretarybefore your class or division. No stall refunds. There will be a $25 scratch fee if the entry has been processed.

    ENTRIES ACCEPTED: Three entries, unless otherwise stated, are necessary to ll a class, or the class may be cancelled. The showreserves the right to decline any entry and to return any fees before or during the show without being liable for compensation and tochange location, combine, cancel, add or limit any classes or ofcials.

    AWARDS: Eight ribbons, unless otherwise stated, will be presented in all classes.

    SCHOOLING: Schooling will be allowed on Tuesday after 12:00 Noon.  During the show, schooling is permitted in the mornings upuntil thirty (30) minutes before the start of the show or until the Management closes schooling (weather permitting), except for Fridaymorning, which is for Futurity Horses only.

    PRIZE MONEY:  Checks will be mailed after the conclusion of the show to the person/company as indicated in the “prize moneyrecipient” section of the entry blank. Social Security or Federal ID number and mailing address or recipient is required before anyprize money will be paid. IRS Form 1099 will be issued for checks totaling over $600 or more.

    HEADGEAR: It is mandatory for all riders where jumping is required or while riding anywhere on the grounds to wear properlyfastened protective headgear that meets or exceeds ASTM standards for equestrian use and carries the SEI tag. It must be properly ttedwith harness secured (USEF GR801).

    ALL DOGS MUST BE KEPT ON LEASHES AT ALL TIMES WHILE ON THE SHOW GROUNDS.

    RETURNED CHECKS: There will be a $30.00 charge plus collection fees for all non-negotiable checks.

    RESPONSIBILITIES: The Warrenton Horse Show Association, its ofcials, directors and employees will not be held responsible forany accident or loss which may occur to any exhibitor, spectator, guest, rider, groom, attendant or other employee, animal or equipmenat the show. The Warrenton Horse Show Association reserves to itself the power to prohibit any person from attending or showing a horsein the ring and to remove any attendant or horse from the show without being liable for compensation.

    Exhibitors are on notice that any act of discourtesy or disobedience by them, their riders, grooms or agents to the judges or ofcials shaldisqualify their entry and the owner shall forfeit all fees and charges, including any and all prize money which he may have won at thisshow. The Horse Show management/directors shall have power to disbar the offending individual from further competition and to havehim and his entire exhibit removed from the grounds without being held liable for damage of any kind and this shall be accepted asa condition of entry.

    QUESTIONS: Should any questions or disputes arise that are not provided for in the rules, the same shall be referred to the Show Committee and management whose decision shall be nal.

    All hunter classes will be judged on performance, manner, soundness and way of going unless otherwise noted.

    SHOW RING SIZE AND FOOTING: Show ring is 180’ x 240’ and all-weather footing.

    STABLING: Both permanent and temporary stalls are available with doors. The permanent stalls are limited.

    MOTORIZED VEHICLE: (GR301.5): Minors who do not have a valid driver’s license which allows them to operate a motorizedvehicle in the state in which they reside will not be permitted to operate a motorized vehicle of any kind including, but not limited togolf carts, motorcycles, scooters, or farm utility vehicles on the competition grounds of licensed competitions. Minors who have a validtemporary license may operate the above described motorized vehicles as long as they are accompanied by an adult with a valid driver’slicense. The parent(s), legal guardian(s), or individual who signs the entry blank as a parent or guardian of a minor operating a motorizedvehicle in violation of this rule are solely responsible for any damages, claims, losses or actions (resulting from that operation. Violationof this rule will be cause for sanctions against the parent(s), guardian(s) and/or trainer(s) who are responsible for the child committingthe offense. Penalities may include exclusion of the child, parent(s), guardian(s), and/or trainer(s) from the competition grounds for theremainder of the competition and charges being led against any of the above individuals in accordance with Rule 6. Wheelchairs andother mobility assistance devices for individuals with disabilities are exempt from this rule.

    TENTS: Due to insurance restrictions, private tents are not allowed unless approved by

    management.

    IMPORTANT NOTICEThe Virginia Department of Agriculture requires that all horses assembled at a show, fair, race, meet, or othersuch function in Virginia must be accompanied by a report of an ofcial negative test for equine infectious anemia,conducted within 12 months prior to such event. All horses must possess a current Coggins certicate.

    Also, all interstate horses must have an interstate health certicate that indicates they have been ofcially testedand found negative for equine infectious anemia within 30 days of entry to the state.

    These certicates must be available for inspection by a representative of the State Veterinarian, upon request.

    In Memoriam GEORGE WILLIS

    WILLIS, George Clifton Jr. “Rootie,” age 67, of Varina, passed away suddenly on February 23, 2015.He was the son of the late George C. Willis and Ruby June Trainham. He is survived by his wife,Susan Peters Willis; children, Tricia, George III, Gregory, Geoffrey (Carley) and Sarah; grandchildren,Crissi, Cullen and Garrit; brother, Philip (Cindy); and sister, Beverly (Wilfred). George founded GWSound and for 49 years of his life provided sound reinforcement services and established manymeaningful friendships among his colleagues and customers who came to trust and depend on him.His three sons will proudly carry on the legacy of the same quality of service for GW Sound that hecontinued to teach them through the years.

    Phyllis Farland, long–time resident of Broad Run at her Laughing Fox Farm,

    passed away suddenly at her home in Rockport, Maine on November 2, 2014.She was 65. A well-known rider, coach, trainer and judge, Phyllis built her professionalcareer in her beloved Virginia.Graduating from UCLA in 1971 with a degree in Political Theory, Phyllisimmediately turned to the horse show world with passion. Her success, ridingwith Marcia Williams in Pasadena,CA, launched her promising professionalbusiness in New York and Virginia. Dedicated to the thoroughbred hunter, sheand her students won frequently on the “A” circuit throughout the mid-Atlanticand in Florida and California in the 80’s and 90’s. As she wound down hershowing, she worked with many of the top riders in the area. Several of herstudents and riders are now successful professionals in their own right. Shecapped her career as a well-respected “R” judge until her retirement in 2013.Phyllis is survived by her husband of 44 years, Bill Farland, and their latest in a30 year line of standard schnauzers, Leo, who live in their homes in Rockport, Maine and LaQuinta, California.Phyllis was the consummate horse-woman, dedicated to her sport and her animals. She will be sorely missed by her friendsand colleagues.

    MIKE ROWE

    The horse world has lost a well-known and much loved horseman. Mike was bornFebruary 22nd, 1946 in Redruth, England and passed away May 8th, 2015.Mike was the personication of a true Horseman. Over the decades he wasinvolved with many aspects of the horse world, as an owner, rider, handler,trainer, coach, show judge and breeder. His farm, Rowe Sport Horses bred andproduced many top hunters and jumpers.Mike became one of the nations’ Top Handlers, earning many USEF HunterBreeding Year End Awards. He was USEF Hunter Breeding Grand ChampionHandler in 2000 and 2002. He handled “Obey” to the USEF Grand ChampionHunter Breeding Horse in 2000 and in 2002 the horse was Ground Zero Hero.He showed many hunter breeding horses and ponies to year end Championshipswith USHJ Zone 3, VHSA, MHSA and VPBA. He was always there at the threebiggest hunter breeding shows, Devon, Uppperville, and Warrenton either in thering competing or on the rail coaching.You could not nd a better coach, guiding many riders and their horses and po-

    nies to earn year end Zone 3/VHSA/MHSA Championships. The table at the year-end awards banquets was always overow-ing with a mountain of trophies and beautiful ribbons either earned by him or his students.Mike is survived by his children Dolly Young, Piper & Sammy Rowe and Gethin Kapoor.It was Mikes wish to have “a hell of a wake”, to raise a glass-or two, share memories and retell all the great stories from overthe years. Gail Forrest and Jill Marshall will be holding an old fashioned Wake in his honor at their tail-gate party Hunt Night,friends are invited too stop by and raise a glass in his memory.

    THE EAST COAST COMPETITION OF THE INTERNATIONAL HUNTER FUTURITY

     The International Hunter Futurity is a competition for young horses. The purpose of the program is to promote interest in and enthusiasm

    for breeding and showing quality hunters. The International Hunter Futurity provides a nancially rewarding program with the highest

    money prizes ever offered in the hunter ring.

    The IHF events are open to horses three years of age in 2015, which were sired by a nominated stallion and have maintained their eli-

    gibility according to IHF Special Conditions. Three classes are offered for the three year old performance section, two over fences and

    one under saddle.

    The IHF Challenge Series, line classes for yearlings, two year olds and three year olds, was designed to promote hunter breeding and to

    give hunter breeders an opportunity to showcase their young stock.

    The IHF Sweepstakes was designed to showcase four year olds which were previously eligible to compete in the IHF three year old

    program. Three classes, two over fences and one under saddle, are offered for the four year olds.

    All IHF events are open only to horses which are by nominated stallions and which have maintained their eligibility according to the

    IHF rules.

    THE INTERNATIONAL HUNTER FUTURITY OVER FENCESIn the over fences class, horses shall demonstrate an even hunting pace, style of jumping, manners and way of moving. All horses must

    be serviceably sound and will be jogged. To be shown over a course of approximately eight fences, commonly found in hunter competi-

    tions. Fences approximately 2’9" in height.

    THE INTERNATIONAL HUNTER FUTURITY UNDER SADDLEHunters under saddle are to be shown at a walk, trot and canter, both ways of the ring. Light contact with the horse’s mouth is required

     88. Fox Hunter Corinthian Class Graciously sponsored by Mr & Mrs. John Coles  Riders to wear full hunting attire. Performance 50%, Conformation 25%, Appointments 25%, an even hunting pace, manners

     jumping style together with faults and way of moving over the course as well as when being jogged for soundness. Manners tobe emphasized.

    The John Barton Payne Memorial Perpetual Trophy donated to the Warrenton Horse Show in1936 by his relatives, friends and admirers will be awarded to the winner

     89. Hunt Teams Graciously sponsored by Mr. & Mrs. Harrison Nesbit Bowes  Teams will consist of three horses and/or ponies. Judged on a brilliant performance at a true hunting pace, soundness, suitability

    manners and uniformity of a team. “The Castalia Plate”, originally presented in 1932 to the winner of the hunt team class at The

    Keswick Hunt Club Horse Show, has been donated anonymously to the winning hunt team at Warrenton

      Hunt Night Champion and Reserve Awarded to the two hunts accumulating the most points.The Nancy Elizabeth Nesbit Trophy donated and sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Nesbit Bowes

    TO BE AWARDED ON HUNT NIGHT  The Eleanor Joan Bartenstein Memorial Challenge Trophy will be awarded to the person with the most points in the hunt

      Best All Around Junior Foxhunter . The C. W. Smith Memorial Plate is graciously presented by Miss Sophia Vella and herparents, Mr. and Mrs. Brian Vella in memory of Sophia’s beloved pony Georgia Brown. This trophy was originally presented to thewinner of the corinthian class at the 1909 Warenton horse Show.
