28 BRONZE GAISCE AWARDS FOR PCS STUDENTS

Twenty eight Transition Year students from Portumna Community School achieved their Bronze Gaisce

awards on May 15th at their Graduation Ceremony. James Coughlan facilitated the award for the students

during the year and he was delighted with the final result of twenty eight awardees.

The President's Award is a most prestigious and valued award sought by students and is about goal setting

and the ultimate challenge of competing against oneself.

The commitment and dedication shown by these young people in completing months of physical activities,

personal development and in particular community involvement is uplifting and inspirational, and a great

example to us all. Our award winners at PCS between them have dedicated 1,508 hours in the various

disciplines. Within their own communities they have invested heavily in community involvement, Red

Cross, Coaching, Helping out in a Day Care Centre, visiting an elderly neighbour and helping in a charity

shop to mention but a few. Learning a musical instrument such as piano, accordion and guitar were some of

the personal skills engaged by the students. For the Physical Recreation; the students took part in Gym

work, Rugby, Badminton, Cycling and Clay Pigeon Shooting. Congratulations to all 28 students and we

commend your good works in your communities.

STUDENTS TAKE NOTE:

Your LOCKER must be CLEANED OUT and left in good

condition with the lock removed before you leave for the Summer. Blue Wheelie Bins have been left for any rubbish!

Don’t forget to collect your spare key (if any) from the Office area during lunch time.

Please collect all of your books, gear bags, jackets, etc. left around the

school on bag racks, etc. before end of May and take them home. Anything left around after this will be gathered up and disposed of

over the Summer.

IRISH AUTISM ACTION PHONE

APPEAL On behalf of all of the LCA2s we would like to thank anyone who kindly donated

their old mobile phones to this very worthwhile charity. The phones were collected by the charity on Thursday

and were very appreciative of all our efforts. The campaign will re-commence in September.
