Cross-Lines—you can help! For over 50 years, Crosslines has joined with people in the community to improve the plight

of the less fortunate. Cross-Lines provides: emergency assistance, laundry services, shower

facilities, clean clothing, rent and utility assistance and a community garden. Cross-Lines has a food

pantry and they serve breakfast and lunch five days a week. Want to learn more? Go to cross-lines.org.

Our Deacons enjoy packing 20 sack lunches for Cross-Lines at their meeting on the last Wednesday of the month. Cross-Lines has

asked us to provide lunches one other time during the month. Can you or a group you

belong to pack lunches? If you want to learn more or volunteer to help, please

Glorify God Grow Disciples Go Serve September 2015

Jesus said, "“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but

it did not fall, because it had been founded on rock.” Matthew 7:24-25 Dear Ward Parkway friends, When challenges come -- and they always come -- they can bring out the best and the worst in us. I have been formed by the challenges in my life and I know you have too. Whether we realize it or not, when things don’t go as planned, we have to make a decision. Will we walk into the future in faith that the Lord is with us and wants the best for us? Or will we shrink from the challenge in fear and anxiety? As most of you know, the start of our Preschool’s year has been delayed because sometime the night of August 14 a toilet tank on the second floor of our Preschool building cracked and water flowed through all three floors of the building for hours. Much flooring, many fixtures and some preschool classrooms were damaged by flooding. That Saturday morning, it was clear at our preschool would not open on August 24 as planned. Our preschool directors and teachers, with the support of our preschool board, communicated promptly and with great compassion to our Preschool families. The Preschool hosted an ice cream social at a local park on what would have been the first day of school for many preschoolers. Since then, teachers have gathered their classes at parks and libraries to help children get to know each other and their teachers. Teachers and directors have maintained constant contact with families. Our preschool families have been understanding and patient. Preschool will now begin on September 14.While there will still be construction in the building at that time, it will be safe for the children and their teachers. All construction it will happen outside of preschool hours. The children will enjoy seeing the transformation of the building with new paint, carpeting and fixtures. This year promises to be another great year of ministry and mission for our Preschool. We will welcome 104 students, representing 92 families. Over one third of these families are new to our school. The preschool has hired 3 new teachers. A new classroom will make its debut at the start of school. Jesus said that the wise man built his house upon the rock and that the house did not fall when the flood came. Neither shall our house fall, for all who have built this house over the years have built it on the rock of Jesus Christ. We will go forward in faith, trusting that the Lord in with us as we serve in Jesus’ name. Grace and peace, Pastor Connie

The Cornerstone Bible Study group will resume on Sunday, September 13th in the Holy

Grounds room at 9:25 AM. We will be studying the MINOR PROPHETS. Did you know that you can do great things for GOD right where you are? In a

world that desperately needs kindness, service, and sacrifice, we have the opportunity to be true

heroes. This study explores the lives of three biblical heroes: the priest Ezra and the prophets

Haggai and Zechariah. These men encouraged oth-ers, were persistent in the face of daily obstacles, and finished the work GOD had given them to do. As we look at their lives, we find inspiration to be everyday heroes too. Please join us for this eight

week study to help you connect GOD's WORD with YOUR LIFE. Please contact Mike

KICKOFF SUNDAY

Sunday, September 13 *Worship will include a time of blessing for our teachers, youth leaders and children and even a

Baptism of our smallest child. *A representative from The Midwest Foster Care and Adoption Organization will be present in worship to

tell us about their services and how we can help children in transition.

*After worship, we will have a picnic on the grounds.

You can make a difference in the life of a needy child by prayerfully filling a shoebox with gifts. As we did last year, our congregation will send shoeboxes to children around the world through Operation Christmas Child. There are several ways to contribute: fill a shoebox yourself, contribute supplies for several boxes that will be packed by our youth, or make a cash donation. Lists of suggested items to include are available in the narthex. We will be assembling the boxes in order to bless the boxes in worship on November 15.

Gift Suggestions Start with a large toy that a child will cherish, like a beautiful doll, a deflated soccer ball with pump, or a plush stuffed animal. Then fill the box completely, adding items like cars, musical instruments, puzzles, and jump ropes. You can also send: School Supplies such as pencils, pens, crayons, notebooks and coloring books. Non-Liquid Hygiene Items such as toothbrushes, bar soap, washcloths and combs. A personal note and photo of you and your family/group. If you include your name and address, the child may be able to write to you. Do Not Include used or damaged items, liquids, vitamins or breakable items.

Nominating Committee At a meeting of the congregation on

August 9, the congregation elected a Nominating Committee: Lynne Crossette, Mike Montgomery and Rosemary McDaneld. Lynne will serve as the session representative and leader of this group,

which includes Pastor Connie. Please keep Lynne, Rosemary, Mike and Connie in your prayers as they

seek new elders and deacons and a new trustee and preschool board member to begin

service in 2016.

Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received.

Thanks to our youth leaders for continuing to pour energy, imagination and love

into our children and youth! At each meeting this summer, the children enjoyed swim-

ming in Candis and Mike Lochmann’s pool and burgers from the Lochmann grill. From Sarah

Guthrie, we learned the about what God and God’s people were up to in the book of Genesis. Sean Stoy

and Nick and Lara King helped Mike and Candis with pool fun, crowd management and burger

cooking. Maggie and Tempie King are honorary youth group members. THANK YOU YOUTH LEADERS!
