Lessons In the WindKate Smith President, Relief Society
People talk about the weather often, especially in Provo. There are days when it is hot, then
cold, and then it starts hailing. There are also times when the wind can be strong and
mighty. In fact, often tree branches break off or whole trees fall over during a big
windstorm.
Our own life is kind of like the weather. We all have days that we are succeeding and things
seem to just go our way, while at other times it seems as though every element is against us
trying to break our strength and tear us down. I often think of the people of Jared when Im caught in apersonal windstorm. The people of Jared got into a boat, and traveled in a strong windstorm for three
hundred and forty four days.
In Ether 6:5 it reads, And it came to pass that the Lord God caused that there should be a furious wind
blow upon the face of the waters, towards the promised land; and thus they were tossed upon the waves of
the sea before the wind. God was with them, He knew the only way to get them to the Promised Land
was to cause a furious wind. A light breeze once in a while wouldnt allow them to reach the PromisedLand. Although they were tossed, and buried in the sea, verse eight says the wind did never cease to blow
towards the promised land while they were upon the waters; and thus they were driven before the wind.
The people of Jared were given an ocean to cross and if that wasnt hard enough they were tossed aroundin furious wind. However, they knew they were being driven to the Promised Land and when they finally
reached it they rejoiced and praised God. We each have our own furious wind: a bad break-up, divorce,
death of a loved one, financial struggles, family hardships, a difficult major, health problems. I know that
these winds in our lives will blow us to the Promised Land if we are faithful and obedient and it will allowus to return and live with our Father in Heaven again.
Although the wind may be strong and fierce, Christ and Heavenly Father are infinitely stronger. No matter
how strong our own personal windstorm is, remember that the wind [will] never cease to blow towardsthe promised land.

I was born in Granger, Utah into a family of 5 boys, I was number 4. I lived inGranger virtually my whole life graduating from Granger High. I was called andserved a mission to Ireland during some of the troubles.
After returning home from Ireland I enrolled and graduated from BYU with abachelors degree in Electronics and a Minor in Computer Science. After graduation, I went to
work for Sperry Univac and 5 years later I met Vickie my wife in a Singles Ward in Murray. We eventually married and have four wonderful children, three boys and agirl.
About 6 years ago I was terminated from my job of 30+ years and I pursued aside business that I had started. I now rent beach condos.
I love the Gospel and it is the center of my life, along with my wife andchildren. I have a personal testimony that the Savior truly does run His Churchand that we are all entitled to His guidance. As you live the Gospel plan, your
lives will blossom with happiness.

1 NEPHI 16:3Do you know the saying, the numbers dont lie? Well, the members of
the Provo YSA 230th ward are hoping that if there ever were some dishonestdigits out there, they were discovered during the month of June in the form ofhome and visit teaching reports. During the month of June Elders Quorumreported visiting about 5% of the families they were assigned, while the ReliefSociety reported visiting about 30% of the sisters; both are 52 week lows.
For the Month of July, Elders Quorum and Relief Society have worked hard toprepare all of the Home and Visit Teachingassignments. If you are not sure who you
are assigned to visit,E.Q. contact: Ken [email protected]. contact: Kristin [email protected]
