As we recognize the accomplishments of our personnel, we are also in the

transition period as 1SG O’Berry prepares to leave the War Eagles. His journey in

the Army continues as he heads off to the United States Sergeants Major

Academy. 1SG O’Berry came to us prior to deployment, and has been

instrumental in both getting our personnel into theater and revamping systems

and processes within the company. 1SG O’Berry recently was awarded the

Bronze Order of Mercury for his accomplishments within the Signal Corps and the

company presented a customized Lei-o-Manu for his contributions as our First

Sergeant. Although his time with the company was short, he’ll leave a lasting

impression with the Soldiers of the company. We wish him and his family the best

of luck with their future assignment, and look forward to hearing from him after his

time at the academy. MSG Arteaga has been selected as our interim Company

First Sergeant, and we look forward to a seamless transition.

Morale, Welfare and Recreation has amped up their efforts on Kandahar

recently. Our War Eagles have participated in the sponsored 5 and 10K runs here,

as well as have had the opportunity to visit with a traveling group of celebrities

and UFC fighters. Most recently our Public Affairs NCO, SGT Schroeder had an

interesting task…to cover the visit by Country Music recording artist Toby Keith.

The concert he provided to the assembled mass at the KAF Boardwalk was well

received and stretched into the earlier evening.

Now, don’t let the photos fool you. Most of the work that your Soldiers

accomplish on a daily basis can’t be caught on film. Your Soldiers work on

average 12 hours a day, facilitating the smooth operation of the brigade across a

multitude of tasks and disciplines. Granted some work longer, but we do try to

make sure that they get to see the sun light every now and then.

The Walk to Afghanistan and Back is still in effect, and our FRG members

continue to rack up the miles. On 11 May the FRG is sponsoring a Spouse

Appreciation Night at the Wheeler Community Center. Please continue to come

out and support our events and the company.

Until next month Aloha and Mahalo for your support.

War Eagle Families,

The brigade recognized a need and filled it with a quality leader

last month. I’d like to offer best wishes to one of my former

1SGs as he received a diamond recently. MSG Linford was

selected as the Company First Sergeant for E FSC, 1/2 ATK.

Our team continues to get stronger by growing from within.

Congratulations to CW5 Roland, 1LT Andreassen, 1SG Linford

and SGT Hecker on their promotions, and SPC Leary for his

reenlistment. The knowledge and experience these Soldiers

bring to the fight is crucial to the continued success of this

company.
