Speakers and Topics

JACK ADAMS, CFSP has over 40 years of funeral service experience, embalming in excess of 20,000 bodies. In addition to representing The Dodge Company in Northern Illinois, he is a member of The Dodge Company embalming research staff, author of many embalming articles that appear in the Dodge Magazine, an Embalming Lab Instructor at Worsham College, and a very popular technical presenter. Turning Challenges Into Opportunities: No embalmer has encountered every possible challenging case, but Jack probably comes close. By way of photos of

challenging cases he’s embalmed and restored, Jack will share some of his experiences. Cases will range from accident victims, edematous and/or emaciated bodies, bodies with gangrene, and lots more.

TOM BUIST has been a licensed funeral director and embalmer for over 30 years. He holds a certification in eye enucleation and corneal excisions. Tom worked for York Great Lakes as a sales representative, lecturer, and trainer before joining The Dodge Company as a sales representative in Michigan. Every Problem Has An Answer – The Problems: Everyone in attendance will be assigned to a table of 8-10 fellow embalmers and a problem embalming case will be given to each table. The assignment will be to discuss the various ways the case could be embalmed, restored, and cosmetized, and hopefully the group can reach a consensus. If you’ve encountered any particular problems or come up with a great new technique, this is a good time share! Every Problem Has An Answer – The Answers: A spokesperson from each table will report to the group. Ideally the group will have reached a consensus, but if not, a variety of ideas may be presented and the moderator usually has a few ideas of his own!

TOM BUIST & JACK ADAMS

Formaldehyde-Free Embalming – Does It Work?: Of course it works or products wouldn’t be on the market! That said, some cases are better suited to be embalmed using a formaldehyde-free solution than others. Tom and Jack have some great pictures of cases embalmed with formaldehyde-free chemicals and will discuss the pros and cons. Studies are still in the works to determine which products do what… hopefully by the time we meet some of those results will be available.

MATT BLACK has been a licensed funeral director and embalmer in the State of Pennsylvania for over 20 years. He represents The Dodge Company in Central and Western Pennsylvania. Matt is certified in Eye/Corneal Enucleation. He has held various positions in state and local funeral service organizations during his career.

In addition to being a graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, Matt also holds degrees in Bio-Medical Engineering Technology and Industrial Management.

Hands-On Airbrushing Workshop: Have you ever wanted to try using an airbrush before buying one? Well, here’s your opportunity. After Matt gives an overview on how to use an airbrush effectively and how to keep it in good, working condition, you’ll have a chance to use it and ask questions. You’ll also learn which bodies are best suited for airbrush cosmetics, and why more and more people prefer to use an airbrush to the more traditional cosmetics used in the mortuary.

TIM COLLISON, CFSP is a licensed funeral director and embalmer in the State of Michigan. In addition to holding the position of Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Dodge, he participates in the company’s Research and Product Development Program, is a regular presenter at the Dodge Seminars, and has authored series of articles on embalming cosmetology which have been featured in the Dodge Magazine. What’s New – some products you may not have seen yet: This will be show and tell, Dodge style! Tim will be showing some of our new and some not-so-new products - items that should be of particular interest to embalmers. While there won’t be any continuing ed credit for this, it should still be of interest to most everyone at the seminar.

JACQUIE TAYLOR is an internationally recognized leader in funeral service education. Currently she is an instructor at New England Institute at Mount Ida College where she had been the Executive Director for 10 years. Prior to that, Jacquie was President of the San Francisco College of Mortuary Science. She is a licensed funeral director and embalmer, and holds both a B.S. and Masters in Business Administration, and just completed her Ph.D.

My Top Ten Restorative Art Pet Peeves: Is there any question that someone who has been teaching restorative art for over 25 years, and embalming for 38 years, would have some pet peeves? Of course not, and you probably can add a few of your own! During this seminar, Jacquie will present ten all-too-common situations that negatively impact the appearance of bodies and what can be done to create a more optimal outcome.
