Which autos are top targets for theft?

Overall, vehicle theft is down by about 9% for the year—a sign that the fight against vehicle theft by law enforcement, the insurance industry, theft prevention organizations, and vehicle owners is working. However, if you have one of these top-targeted vehicles, you should consider taking special precautions to protect yourself from the unpleasant experience of theft.

You guessed it: summer. During the summer months teen drivers are out of school, on the road, and behind the wheel more frequently. According to SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) research, teens spend 44 percent more hours driving each week in the summer than during the school year. It’s an important figure given that 16-year-olds have higher crash rates than drivers of any other age. In fact, the whole set of drivers in the 15 to 20 age bracket account for 12.9 percent of all drivers involved in fatal crashes and 16 percent of all drivers involved in police-reported crashes.Source: Insurance Information Institute (www.iii.org)
