Welcome to Wallingford Presbyterian Church

Members and friends gather here each Sunday morning (and lots of times during the week!) to celebrate and serve. We rejoice that you are here with us, and hope that you’ll feel right at home. Please join us after worship for fellowship and light refreshments in our Fellowship Hall. Visitors are always welcomed and encouraged to participate in any of our programs, activities and ministry opportunities. A Nursery is available downstairs for preschool children. Large print bulletins are available upon request. If you need a little help hearing, portable listening devices are available. Restrooms are located in the Narthex and throughout the church building. An infant changing station and Quiet Room for nursing mothers is located off the Narthex. Activity books for children are available in the Narthex.

Please ask an usher if you need help; we are here to assist you!

Solo The Crucifixion (from “The Hermit Songs”) Samuel Barber Kara Mulder, soprano

At the cry of the first bird They began to crucify Thee, O Swan! Never shall lament cease because of that. It was like the parting of day from night. Ah, sore was the suffering borne By the body of Mary’s Son, But sorer still to Him was the grief Which for His sake Came upon His Mother. (Words from 12th C. Monk; translated by Howard Mumford Jones) Passion / Palm Sunday Meditation RESPONDING TO THE WORD Sharing in Mission and Ministry Call to Stewardship Offertory O Sacred Head Now Wounded arr. The chancel flowers are to the Glory of God by Holly Renegar in honor of Hadley Renegar and

in memory of Hal Renegar and Eleanor Conley.

Thank you to Helen Picher, Nate Braden, Tim Childers, Kelly Montague and all who assisted with the worship service this morning, those volunteering to usher, and to those assisting with

fellowship time today. One Great Hour of Sharing continues during Lent. Our church will be collecting OGHS offerings to support disaster assistance, hunger reduction, and self-development programs. This year’s theme is “You shall be called repairers of the breach,” taken from Isaiah 58. Envelopes will be available in the pew racks for your contributions beginning today, March 11th. We will dedicate our OGHS offering on Easter Sunday, April 1st. Easter Egg-stravaganza We will be hosting our annual Easter Egg-stravaganza egg hunt on Saturday, March 31st at 10 AM. We need lots of candy (enough to stuff 3000+ eggs) and lots of help to do the stuffing on Wednesday, March 28th at 4:30 pm. We will also need volunteers to put out eggs on the morning of the hunt. Round bins to collect candy are available in the narthex and Fellowship Hall. Candy should be individually wrapped. (Note: We are dropping the no nuts restriction this year.) Please contact Teresa Ahern Sawyer, Jen Nicholas, or Walt Kaminski, or sign up in Fellowship Hall if you can help. Lenten Study Opportunities Over the course of Lent, Pastors François and Taylor and Musical Director Liz Braden will be giving a series of Lenten study classes after the worship service on Sunday. The schedule is as follows: Sunday March 25th - TODAY Palm Sunday. Join Pastor François for a look at the history and observance of Holy Week, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday particularly. Why are these days considered “Holy” for Christians and what does it mean to have Holy Days in an increasingly secular society. Stone Soup Dinner is rescheduled for Wednesday, March 28th at 6:30pm: An old children’s story tells of a group of strangers who, finding themselves hungry and without provisions, ask the townspeople for food. When the locals refuse, the strangers begin boiling stones in a large cauldron, drawing curiosity from the neighbors. As each townsperson comes to ask about what’s happening, they think of something in their pantry that might improve the soup, and bring some along to contribute. At the end, the whole town feasts together on the soup they made from shar-ing what they had. Join us for our own “stone soup” dinner, as we share in community. Bring something delicious to share. Soup and bread will be provided. Labyrinth Walk and Taizé Service is rescheduled for Wednesday March 28th from 7pm to 8:30 pm. All are invited to walk the prayer labyrinth in Fellowship Hall as we contemplate our Lenten Journey. At 7:30, join us for a Taizé service of Healing and Wholeness.

Rise Against Hunger Sunday, April 22, the Mission and Service Committee will again sponsor a meal packing event for Rise Against Hunger. Great fun for ages 6 to 96. We will need volunteers for load in at 7:30 am, lunch crew volunteers, and volunteers for the pack out. The salad and pizza lunch for volunteers will begin at about 12 noon, with the pack out following immediately. We are generally finished by 3 pm at the latest. Volunteers will be also needed for the load out and clean up. Sign-up sheets are in Fellowship Hall. Families are welcome, and childcare will be provided for children under age 6. Thanks in advance for volunteering and considering this opportunity. Have questions? Contact David Rudd at 484-479-3672, 717-644-5450, or [email protected] Shred and Fed Save the date and save your old papers and records. Saturday, April 21st 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm, rain or shine, come feed the shredder and help stock the local food banks. The Mission and Service Committee sponsors this shredding event, which is free if you bring non-perishable food items. (We accept cash donations for the food banks as well). Last year, we collected more than 800 pounds of food and over $600 in cash donations. Just save your papers and bring them to the WPC Parking lot and we will do the rest. Any questions? Con-tact Jeni Albany. The next BookLook will take place on Wednesday, May 16 at 7:30 PM. We are reading Ed Asner’s The Grouchy Historian ... The book is a humorous, satirical, and extensive exam-ination of the real story of the creation of the Constitution and the nature of the men who met in Philadelphia in the spring and summer of 1787 to amend the Articles of Confederation… and ended up creating our Constitution and the Bill of Rights. It is an issue-by-issue review of the alternative interpretations of the Constitution that fill our current political press. Book costs approximately $11. Holy Week Schedule Palm Sunday.
