Overview:

The Walla Walla Nursery Company is a wholesale nursery which grows ornamental shrubs, vines, grasses, herbs and succulents. This company produces quality plants in various sized containers for sale to retail nurseries and landscaping companies.

Responsibilities:

• Irrigation management (Drip/Overhead sprinkler)• Pest/Disease management• Propagation• Pruning• Spacing of plants• Greenhouse maintenance

Pictured above is me in the middle of spacing a variety of geraniums in order to help prevent etiolation due to close

proximity of plants.

Pictured here is me pruning a variety of Physocarpus sp. using a hedge trimmer in

order to induce axillary bud break.

Pictured her is another employee and I pruning a vine variety, Clematis sp.

Pictured here is a drip irrigation container lot dedicated solely to shrubs. I assisted in managing the irrigation schedule of this lot as

well as other overhead sprinkler irrigated fields.

Summary:

After interning at the Walla Walla Nursery Company I can say that I have gained valuable knowledge in wholesale nursery production. I have learned about various farming equipment, grow numerous types and varieties of plants, as well as how tointeract with employees and supervisors alike. This internship will now be the base on which I build my professional career on. I used my college education in an applicable and realistic manner here and was able to see how hard work coincides with smartdecisions making. Information gained here in every aspect will be used down the road as I continue to pursue a career as a grower in todays horticultural industry.
