The volunteer walk leaders can help you take up walking by starting you off at a gentle amble for 10 to 20 minutes and leading you up to a one hour walk on our easy health walks. Please let the leader know if you would find this helpful. Please note we need 7 days notice to book a tramper for a health walk. Where the £ sign is displayed below, there is a charge for participating on the 2 hour Legstretcher walks. wyre.gov.uk Visit Garstang Tel: 01995 602125 Welcome to our Walking Wyre 2015 Calendar The walks on offer this year range from health walks (up to one hour), to two hour legstretchers and half day and full day countryside rambles. A small number of the walks can also be joined by trampers – all terrain electric scooters (which can be hired) for those with walking difficulties. Why not join us to try out something new and discover Wyre’s rich natural and cultural heritage. Trampers The Tramper is an all-terrain electric vehicle designed for people with differing abilities to access the countryside. Its capacity to deal with stones, mud, grass and rough ground is astonishing. You can hire one free of charge for use on the Tramper Trails in Wyre and Lancashire, but you must book 48 hours in advance. (Please note one week in advance if you wish to use it on a health walk.) First time users need to attend a short induction and should take along a passport photo and proof of identify to register. Regular walking can help to: Keep you heart strong Reduce the risk of heart disease Give you more energy Aid weight loss Make new friends Reduce high blood pressure Improve mobility Help you sleep better Give you a feel good factor Explore your local parks, coast and countryside Bookings A number of the longer walks must be booked in advance. This is because they can only accommodate a limited number of people. We show this as “Booking essential” in the walk description. For bookings ring 01995 602125 or email [email protected] Visit Garstang opening hours Winter November – March 11.00am – 3.30pm Summer April – October 10.30 am – 4.30pm Alternatively call in person to ‘Visit Garstang Centre’, Cherestanc Square, Park Hill Road, Garstang, Lancashire, PR3 1EF. Any activity with a fee should be paid for in advance. Unfortunately no refunds can be given. Please make cheques payable to Wyre Council. Walk price guide FREE - Health walks and guided walks up to one hour A - £3.50 Adults, £2.50 - concessions, children - legstretchers, half day walk 1- 4 hours B - £4.50 Adults, £3.50 - concessions, children - full day walk over 4 hours Health If you have any medical conditions that the activity leader should know about, please mention this at the start of the activity. Alternatively, check with your GP or health practitioner before you take part. Our health walks are a good starting point for people recovering from ill health. Safety When attending an activity, please take the advice of the leader. We reserve the right to refuse to take people on activities if we feel they are unsuitably equipped for the activity. If you intend to leave early please inform your leader. For your own safety, please come dressed to match the type of activity and weather with appropriate footwear and waterproof clothing. Poor Weather Please note a Ranger/Leader will be at the start of an activity whatever the weather. In extreme conditions a decision will be taken on the day by the leader whether or not to cancel. Helpful tips before you set off on your walk Wear suitable footwear and clothing for the weather conditions, eg stout footwear, all weather clothing. If you have medication that you need to carry at all times, bring it with you. If you are diabetic, please make sure you have eaten before the walk and bring food or drink if necessary. If you have a medical condition that you feel could prevent you from walking ask for your doctor’s advice. You may be asked to complete a simple health questionnaire at the start of some activities. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed on longer walks unless stated in the walk description. This is because many of the walks cross farmland containing livestock or nesting birds. Dogs are allowed on the one hour health walks and legstretchers, but dogs must be kept under close control at all times and on a lead on request by the leader and you must clean up after them. All children on walks must be accompanied and looked after by a responsible adult. Information on walking grades To help you decide which is the walk for you. Wherever possible an approximate time and terrain guide has been given for each walk. Terrain Guide Please note our health walks are graded from All to Moderate, most being Easy. All – Relatively flat, surfaced paths, no stiles, suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, may include road crossings. Easy – Relatively level ground, fields, lanes and tracks, possibly with some gentle slopes, stiles or livestock. Moderate – Uneven ground, fields, lanes and tracks with some moderate slopes, expect stiles/livestock. Hard – Uneven ground, fields, lanes and tracks with some steeper climbs, expect stiles/ livestock. Very Hard – Limited paths, rough walking, steep climbs, expect stiles/livestock. T – Tramper – suitable for people using trampers (see information below location map for hire details). wyre.gov.uk Visit Garstang Tel: 01995 602125 walking wyre 2015

Health walks calendar 2015All health walks are free and everyone is welcome no matter what their age or ability. The volunteer walk leaders can help you take up walking by starting you off at a gentle amble for 10 to 20 minutes and leading you up to a one hour walk on our easy health walks.

Please let the leader know if you would find this helpful.

Please note we need 7 days notice to book a tramper for a health walk.Where the £ sign is displayed below, there is a charge for participating on the 2 hour Legstretcher walks.

Welcome to our Walking Wyre 2015 Calendar

The walks on offer this year range from health walks (up to one hour), to two hour legstretchers and half day and full day countryside rambles. A small number of the walks can also be joined by trampers – all terrain electric scooters (which can be hired) for those with walking difficulties. Why not join us to try out something new and discover Wyre’s rich natural and cultural heritage.

Trampers

The Tramper is an all-terrain electric vehicle designed for people with differing abilities to access the countryside. Its capacity to deal with stones, mud, grass and rough ground is astonishing.

You can hire one free of charge for use on the Tramper Trails in Wyre and Lancashire, but you must book 48 hours in advance. (Please note one week in advance if you wish to use it on a health walk.)

First time users need to attend a short induction and should take along a passport photo and proof of identify to register.

Alternatively, check with your GP or health practitioner before you take part. Our health walks are a good starting point for people recovering from ill health.

SafetyWhen attending an activity, please take the advice of the leader. We reserve the right to refuse to take people on activities if we feel they are unsuitably equipped for the activity. If you intend to leave early please inform your leader. For your own safety, please come dressed to match the type of activity and weather with appropriate footwear and waterproof clothing.

Poor WeatherPlease note a Ranger/Leader will be at the start of an activity whatever the weather. In extreme conditions a decision will be taken on the day by the leader whether or not to cancel.

Helpful tips before you set off on your walk• Wear suitable footwear and clothing for the weather conditions, eg stout footwear, all weather clothing.• If you have medication that you need to carry at all times, bring it with you.• If you are diabetic, please make sure you have eaten before the walk and bring food or drink if necessary.• If you have a medical condition that you feel could prevent you from walking ask for your doctor’s advice. You may be asked to complete a simple health questionnaire at the start of some activities.• Unfortunately dogs are not allowed on longer walks unless stated in the walk description. This is because many of the walks cross farmland containing livestock or nesting birds.• Dogs are allowed on the one hour health walks and legstretchers, but dogs must be kept under close control at all times and on a lead on request by the leader and you must clean up after them.• All children on walks must be accompanied and looked after by a responsible adult.
