• Traffic congestion is causing a loss of Tk 370 billion a year in Dhaka

• We found many anti-pedestrian activities

• 44% roads have no footpath

• Footpath shrunk in some area under model project

• No crossing amenities in 97% area

• Expanding rickshaw bans rather than integration

• Lack of initiative to encourage bicycle

Recommendations

• To allocate sufficient budget for pedestrian and NMT• To develop a guideline for improving the condition for

pedestrian and NMT• To create dedicated desk for pedestrian and NMT• To introduce more temporary Carfree street• To make some road totally Carfree• To take other measures to control car like increase

parking charge, increase import tax, introduce congestion charge, limiting the number of registration, restriction on car loan etc.
