1.0 THREE RELATIONSHIPS

The three techtonics will be explored in a way that relates to the history of Herrin Island whilst compromising tradtional features of the sculptures that are housed there. This is done by integrating artistic tendancies that are constant with the island, relating them to modern day Melbourne, and giving these features a contemorary twist. This is done so the essance of what the island is about remains whilst revealing modern architecture as it s cohabitance.

1.1 POINT / LINE / PLANE

In keeping wiht the notion of whats on the Island, the point line and plane is explored through an arrao of lines that form a continuity.The plane is created through the series of lines.This particualr design captures the notion of the waves of the river, however it is captured as a still, contructed as a sculture and becomes the three main gate ways to the revealed sculture beyond. There is also another deminished wave that is sculted ina way that its sunken to emulate a tide. This wave however is alos a gateway to the underground area.

1.2 FRAME & INFILL

The Frame and infill techtonic is inspired by a Melbourne Icon. The Melbourne exhibision centre is constructed with fragmented elements that are not restricted to the nest of the structural elements. There is a massive pertruding Soffitt line that cuts through the main centre and out towards teh sky to make an exhibited statement, allowing the user to know there is somthing back here.

1.3 MASS

Mass is explored inmore ways than one, and eventually becomes the catalist of the design.the inspiration comes from the multi coloured cube at the Melbourne Museum. The techtonic displays dispreportionate properties and along with its multiple coloured face, becomes a major intriguiging part of the museum. On the other hand I have explored the techtonic by trying to see how light is reflected on inner areas of

3.1 SITE ANALYSIS AND CONCEPTACLE

The site analysis integrates landing zones, contour heights and dence to little or no vegetation.

3.2 CONCEPT AND SKETCH DESIGN

Herring Islands distinctness comes in the fact that is hidden from the naked eye. Other then the people that are owning mansions from the high contour South East of teh Island, there is no way for anyone to notice it.This hiddeness continues when you do find the Island, it is hidden from site due to its overwhelming land mass that contains the heart of the Island.Although my sketches dont reflect the final design completely, they do concern one point. The design had to continue to reveal a gem as you pass through it. There had to be a statment that drawn on curiosity toward somthing greater.

3.4 FINAL DESIGN DRAWINGS

The final design shows not just all three techtonics, but there are three main zones throughout. The two main zones are sculpture zones which are the wave formations that lead to the second sculture, the glass box playground. The playground pertudes through the floor and in some areaas create natural sunlight into the passageway of the innerground area.

4.0 REFLECTION

The design is supposed to be a reflection of herring Island.Herring Island is a continous journey of discovery as the user walks around it, there is something else to find.The impact that is created through this design allows the user to first be intrigued and then is able to reveal the next layer or secret.from the sculptured waves, to the glassplayground, and finally the underground area that houses the outdoor pavilion and the time capsule that is the final square in teh piece below the rest of the sculpture hidden in water.There is always a corner to turn and always some place to take you in this design.
