Simulations: what are they and how do they
work?
What do computer simulations do?
Computer simulations can represent real
or imaginary situations.
They allow people to try things thatwould be difficult or impossible to do inreal life.
Here’s a clue.....
• Simulations are particularly useful when something:
• is too dangerous, • takes too long, • is too quick to study, • is too expensive to create.
• What would you like to try that might be too dangerous in real life?
• Maybe you don’t have enough money to try it, or maybe you don’t have enough time because you have to come to school!
Can you think of anything that we might need
computer simulations for?
We can use computer simulations to;
• To help us build houses.
• Create and test roller coasters.
• Create our own lemonade stand.
• Learn how to fly an aeroplane.
• Play a sport
• To grow plants
• Today we will be using a computer simulation to make and then test our own roller coaster.
• What do you think we will need to think about when we make our own roller coaster?
