Dear Students, Staff, and ParentsAssalamu’Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhI am thrilled to serve as the Executive Principal of Australian Islamic College with its three campuses in Kewdale, Thornlie and Dianella. It is a privilege to lead this learning community during a time of incredible change and tremendous possibilities. Our challenge is to embrace the future of the 21st century and assure that our students are properly prepared to become leaders in this exciting new world while preserving their Islamic identity. In order to accomplish this monumental task we must provide the following: a high level of personalization in every aspect of a student’s school experience, a proud recognition for individual and group accomplishments as well as for diligence and hard work, and, an unwavering commitment to the development of Islamic character and civic responsibility in our young people. To our students, I ask that you reflect on your goals and strive not only to pursue personal excellence but also to demonstrate your perseverance and integrity. Know that I am here to provide you more and more opportunities to learn. Remember that with these opportunities, comes both a personal and collective responsibility to be supportive of one another. I will count on you to go beyond tolerance and treat all members of our community with respect. A school that aspires to greatness can expect no less. To our staff, I pledge my commitment to work together as we strive to fulfill our college vision. The AIC is a community committed to excellence in education and to provide equal opportunity and an appreciation of diversity among all students. We promote a love for life-long learning and the development of responsible citizens in the Australian society. We recognize the importance of a blend of academic

and co-curricular activities as a means of developing the whole student within an Islamic environment. We pursue these goals from a background of strong Islamic values. AIC depends on a collaborative community to support the achievement of our vision, and we are committed to developing the relationships and resources to achieve these goals, Insha’Allah. In preparing our students for this 21st century, we must find our strength in a shared determination to inspire students to find their passion and to challenge them to follow their dreams while assuring that we do our part to ensure that they have the skills necessary to achieve those dreams. To our parents, it is through your support that we make a significant difference in the lives of our students. As we strive to take the AIC beyond its current standing as an exemplary Islamic College to one of state/national recognition, our partnership becomes that much more critical. The AIC community has dedicated itself completely to the education of its student and has placed great trust in our college. I understand the importance of this trust and vow to work for the best interests of our students and community. Serving as Executive Principal at AIC is as great an honor as it is a responsibility and trust. I believe that the foundation of our future accomplishments will be found in the power of our combined efforts and the strength of our synergy. I look forward to meeting and working with you all. Sincerely,

Abdullah KhanExecutive Principal

Asalamu Alaykum

The Australian Islamic College has strongly supported and represented the interests of the students for the last 27 years. This multi-cultural diversity school has provided teaching and learning programs that enable students from all cultures and communities to identify as Australians within a democratic multicultural society and to develop the knowledge, skills and values for participation as active citizens. In addition to the excellent academic results, the Australian Islamic College places great emphasis on the holistic development of our students. Morals and values training and spiritual development are incorporated into the college ethos. Students engage in many inter-school programs (sports, beliefs and values education) and events. The college is an active participant in Harmony Day and students regularly participate in Public Speaking competitions , Leadership Training and National Writing Competitions. Students also engage in fund-raising for war-stricken and disaster stricken areas.I am proud of our College achievements throughout the year.

I would like to thank all parents for their continuous support and the community for their thoughtful inputs. Our purpose is to consistently deliver quality education within a calm and nurturing environment, and we believe we are succeeding. Our specific aim is to develop a ‘personalised education experience’ where the students are active, lifelong learners and most importantly, responsible for their own learning. It is students themselves who have the greatest effect on academic success; the more involvement a student has in their own learning, the greater the result. The vision at the Australian Islamic College is to provide quality education following the Australian curriculum and sound Islamic teachings, to develop a good Islamic moral outlook amongst all students, to give Muslim children the opportunity to learn and to practice their faith in a school environment, to help students grow a respect, appreciation and tolerance for their own culture and the culture of others. I believe that our school experience is where

Respect, Effort and Challenge are highly valued, we develop a new generation that is God loving and God fearing and will be successful in this life and the hereafter. Alhumdulillah thanks to Allah (swt) for providing everything.

This year was a year full of activities, excellentachievements and students-staff and parent collaboration.

I wish you all a safe and productive term. I also thank you teachers, students, parents and College board for their hard work and support through out this year.

May Allah (SWT) gives us ability and strength to look after our beautiful students and their education.

Best regards,

Nasreen AhmedPrincipal

In A.I.C. productions we have prioritized our time into doing tasks which may be beneficial to our society, Australian Islamic College.First we have started off by completing the presentation for the English Department informing the students of A.I.C. about the English speaking competition. After this accomplishment, we tried to create a new segment in assembly known as “Quote of the week”, which apparentlyaccording to students reviews, was a great success. We then created the Arabic presentation about the father/son relationship which was about the realization of the greatness of the father. Another presentation that we have done was for the physical education department where we had conducted a fundraiser in which kids could wear their favorite sport team’s jersey in return for a small fee. The last presentation we conducted was for Sheikh Burhan which had to do with charity and water. Some of our future presentations include the A.I.C. virtual tour, the camps for year 7 to 10 boys and A.I.C. outstanding work. These are just some of the projects we have in mind, there are many more presentations on their way. TERM THREEThe Health & Physical Education Department is pleased with the events of term three this year. It was a very quiet start for us during Ramadan, taking a break from our recess and lunch time tournaments and focusing on health. During the last weeks of term however we have been jam packed with events with plenty more to be organised for term 4.Firstly we need to congratulate Sr Nuria, our primary sports teacher and school AFL Ambassador for winning an Award for “Outstanding Multicultural Program” on the 12th of August at the AFL Football Ambassadors Award night. Sr Nuria is highly motivated and doing great things for our primary students.

The Coles Sports for Schools program is well underway with many vouchers being collected. We look forward to getting our final tally and ordering equipment for 2012.On the 5th of September we took our year 11 boys soccer team to Belmont City College for a friendly soccer match. After two 20minute halves our AIC boys were victorious scoring 3 goals against BCC 0. It was a real team effort but our goal scorers were Captain Muhamed Dizdar, Nooh Assaad & Reza Mousavi .On the 16th of September we held a volleyball competition between our current year 12 Physical Education Studies (PES) Students and our ex AIC year 12 PES students. The ex AIC team was off to a shooting start with a 2 set lead proving they hadn’t forgotten their skills. The current AIC team with the help of student cheers gained confidence and momentum to win the next two sets finishing the match with a draw. The ex AIC students gave some friendly words of advise and experience as the WACE practical exam for volleyball draws near.In week 8 we held our annual Athletics carnival at

Langford Oval. It was a great success thanks to all the teachers, parents and students involved. Our first day was the high school boys showing many talented students with the GREEN faction winning. Tuesday was a very bright & colourful event with the high school girls taking over the venue, the winning faction was RED. The following two days gave primary students the chance to shine with almost all the students receiving ribbons for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place.

the Kindy/pre-primary carnival was held in the school gym on Tuesday 27th September. So what will we organise in term 4? LOTS!This year will be the very first year AIC will be taking part in the interschool athletics carnival being held on the 27th of October Thursday week 2.

10 AIC KEWDALE LIBRARYThe Australian Islamic College library in Kewdale organised the Scholastic Book Fair as an opportunity to fund raise for the school library and also provide an excellent opportunity for school students to purchase their favourite books. It ran through a week from 19th to 26th May 11, with the official opening ceremo-ny taking place on Friday morning, 20th May 2011.

So how was the Scholastic Book Fair? It was an exciting week for the AIC school library at Kewdale; starting from the preparations, right till pack up on the last day! The students, as well as parents were welcome to the library during its opening hours all through the event, giving them a chance to skim through books they found interesting, so that they may purchase them at a later visit during the week. The opening ceremony in itself also generated a lot of excitement with the guests of honour Sr Nasreen (Acting Executive Principal) who graced the event. All the invited guests who arrived to support the Scholastic Book Fair were warmly welcomed by the library staff, its volunteers, and sweet little visitors from 1A Sr Marjorie Class... Not only that, but all of the students who had come to visit the library during this week were also awaiting a special visitor.

This was none other than Clifford the dog who contributed to the much expected enthusiasm surrounding the Book Fair. The students, especially from the kindy and primary years, were simply overjoyed by his entry each time, and they had a chance to have loads of fun with him on several occasions during the week.

The library had great support from all the parents and the kindypre-primary, primary and high school teachers, and especially all the volunteers. They have all contributed immensely into making the Book Fair a pleasant success and great fun. All in all, it would perhaps be right to say that the Scholastic Book Fair was thoroughly an exciting, fun and productive event!

We organised anIslamic Book fair during Ramadan in term 3. The Islamic book fair provided a great opportunity to both students and parents to purchase some really interesting Islamic books meant for children and also some wonderful Islamic accessories and gift items. These also include audio CDs for children such as ‘I look I see’ by Yusuf Islam.

Ramadan was indeed quite special and different in the AIC library in Kewdale with the Islamic Book Fair. The last year’s Islamic Book Fair held during Ramadan was not only successful, but it had, alhumdullillah, fared greatly even beyond expectations. With the much expressed enthusiasm and interest of the students, both from high school as well as pri-mary school, the school teachers, and not to forget so many parents and visitors from outside the

school, it was difficult to not organise yet another book fair. And it couldn’t have been better than to organise it during Ramadan.

WHITEMAN PARK ADVENTURES!Assalamu alaikum,Kindergarten classes went on an excursion to Whiteman Park on Wednesday 14th September. The children participated in an environmental education program called ‘Growing Brilliantly with BOB’ (the boy of the bush). We visited the children’s forest, met the boy of the bush and learnt about many fascinating plants and animals which live in the forest. We also took a train ride around the park for 30 minutes and enjoyed having morn-ing tea together. This event was a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn to care for the environment as well as gaining exposure to the wider community (Early Years Learning Framework Outcome 2). Thank you to all the parent helpers who came along on the day and made it a really enjoy-able day out!Lesley Anne Merdi Kindy TeacherAIC Thornlie

The AIC Library at Kewdale had some new visitors who had come to take a special tour of the library. These were our students from Kindy who had come to visit our library for the first time along with teacher.

They were all extremely well behaved and listened eagerly with all their attention, interest and enthusiasm to their teacher and Sr Fadwa as she guided them through all the sections of the library.

They were at first introduced to the junior-fiction section, followed by the Arabic/Islamic, reference and fiction sections

Also, during the course of their library tour, the library staff explained to the children the special library rules and conditions to which they responded with some amazing understanding especially on how they were expected to take special care with the books, how they were to maintain silence inside the library at all times the importance of the library ID card and the purpose of the security check and how they were expected to bring and take books to and from the library.

All in all, it was simply a joy to have this special visit from our per primary students at the library and we look forward to seeing kindy classes very soon too.

18Asalamu Alaykum

Praise be to Allah Almighty, who is the sustainer of the Universe. May Peace and Blessings of Allah Almighty be upon Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets, His family and His companions, Insha-Allah!

We have had an amazing term 3 filled with hardwork (NSW English, Maths, Science, Writing and Spelling ICAS tests as well as the NAPLAN Assessment), fun activities (Inter-schools Soccer Tournament and Walla Touch Rugby), a author visit (writing workshop for Yr 6-10) and a wonderful Family Eid Fete organized by the Dianella Parents and Friends Committee on Saturday 24 September 2011. The attached photo’s will give you an insight into the fantastic, euphoric day that we had. It was incredible to see the unity, love, respect, community spirit that was clearly evident on the day. May Allah (swt) grant our community to strengthen in all our endeavours and dealings with each other, Insha-Allah!

I am extremely proud of the support and commitment of all my parents, students and staff who all play a vital role in making Dianella such an exceptional school. May Allah (swt) Bless you all from His Infinite Treasury of Mercy, Barakah and Shower you all with an abundance of Blessings, Insha-Allah!

I would also like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone who generously contributed to our Somali Horn of Africa Appeal. Alhumdulillah we collected $2000 on Saturday 24th September. May Allah (swt) grant us to support our brothers and sisters in whichever capacity we are able to, and may He solve all our social, economic and political problems and grant our children to become the torchbearers of Islam Insha-Allah!

I wish you all a safe, enjoyable break.

Jazak-Allah Khairun
