Bridge works were completed last week. The project also included improvements to the Wairau Road/Forrest Hill Road and Nile Road/Forrest Hill Road intersections. New trafc signals have been installed at the Nile Road/Forrest Hill Road intersection, primarily for safety reasons, including a new signalised pedestrian crossing across Nile Road. These will be operational in early December. The undergrounding of power and telecommunication lines was completed earlier this month and new service ducting installed for future ultra-fast broadband services. Home water connections have also been switched over to the new upgraded watermain network. The nal stretch! With the project now in its nal weeks, the last remaining tasks include: installing safety fencing along the new widened footpath and retaining wall along the Kings Plant Barn boundary constructing the remaining Wairau Road driveways to match the new kerb lines laying the nal sections of footpath laying the nal road surface applying new road markings installing central median on Wairau Road and Nile Road. Auckland Trans port and its contractor Dempsey Wood thank local residents and businesses for their patience and cooperation during this major upgrade. The bridge replacement and intersectionimprovements are part of the final worksundertaken as part of the seven-stage Taharoto-Wairau Road Upgrade, started in 2006 under theformer North Shore City Council.The upgrade will bring a number of benefits for local residentsand road users, including:

• Replacement of an outdated bridge to increase roadcapacity and improve pedestrian safety

• Additional traffic lanes to help ease congestion• On-road cycle lanes for commuters and confident cyclists

• Off-road cycle lanes around school areas to cater for youngerand less experienced cyclists

• Larger and better quality footpaths

• Additional pedestrian islands to help people cross the road safely

• Undergrounding of overhead power and telecommunicationlines to improve the look of the area

• Improved intersections with the installation of traffic lightsand additional marked lanes

• Resurfacing of the road for a smoother journey

• Landscaping

Final surfacing worksTo reduce traffic impacts, final road resurfacingworks will take place over three consecutivenights in late November/early December.

Expect road layout changes during this paving exercise, asresurfacing will be undertaken in sections.

Once the dates are confirmed for the resurfacing works,Dempsey Wood will be in contact with those who are likely tobe directly affected.
