We look forward to continuing our relationships with our existing families as well
as developing relationships with our new families. We pray that we can continue
to foster a sense of community within WLPS and welcome our new families into
our school community. It will be exciting to see what gifts and talents these new
people will bring to our school as they look for ways in which they can contribute
within our WLPS community.
It would be lovely to have as many families as possible come to our family BBQ
on Friday, 6th February (refer below). This will be a great opportunity to meet the
new families and welcome them by saying hello personally and sharing some
time together.
Love God with all your heart and Love your neighbour as you love yourselves
(Luke 10:27).
Blessings, Adam Borgas

Nut Minimalisation Policy As we have students who have a severe

say a HUGE thank you to all parents for supporting this move and for your patience during our

Class Carers: - Would this be you?
This year we would like to institute a system of class carers within our school community at WLPS. There
may be families in need of support or encouragement and class carers would be a liaison to assist
your Chaplain, Moira Ganner, to provide for and be alerted to these needs.
Some people we know have a gift for building relationships with others and letting others know they
are there to care and support them. It is a talent that some people have to be able to be there for oth-
ers in a time of need.
Our vision: To carry out Christ’s command showing love, care and concern to each family in our
school community.
AIMS:
Act as point of contact for other parents/families in the class, particularly those new to the school.
Provide and facilitate practical support in times of crisis.
Encourage and create opportunities for friendship between families.
Celebrate and commiserate with families on special occasions via a card (birthdays, weddings
and funerals).
Do you think that this role as class carer for your child’s class might be for you: something you feel a
passion about? Please contact Mr Borgas or myself if you are interested.
Sincerely,
Moira Ganner
Learning week This year, teachers decided that they would call the first week of
school ‘Learning Week’. Each class will be reading the book ‘The
Dot’ (pictured to the right) and completing a design on a bandana,
ready to wear ‘loud and proud’ in week 2! In learning week, we are
focussing on self-discovery of the learning styles of each child, their
unique gifts and talents, and the habits of a lifelong learner. Part of
Learning week is also setting up the home routines needed for
successful home study throughout the year.
As your child brings home their homework contract, please work
through ensuring that you protect a time for them each night to
complete their number work and reading, a space for them that will
be ready for their learning, and ensure that the stationary they need
is accessible. If you have any questions what-so-ever about a homework schedule for your child,
please ensure you see your classroom teacher.
‘Learning week’ was prompted for us as a staff, after Sue Beelitz and Michelle Burns attended a two
day training late last year on ‘the Art and Science’ of teaching (Robert J Marzano). They conducted
a short presentation last year and then this year in the staff preparation days. If you are interested to
know more, talk to your classroom teacher, or Mrs Sue Beelitz or Michelle Burns.
Canteen News
Quelch Pleased to advise that Quelch Iceblocks will be available for purchase at lunch time on

12.50pm. If you are able to help, please contact the Admin Staff ASAP so a roster can be
generated.
