At present, deep under the surface...

i am getting closer. I can feel it.

What awaits me up there? The world must be quite different

now, after all those years.

7

I don’t know anybody there anymore, except for

those I’ll have to fight sooner or later.

And the ones I knew? Dead, for sure... But not

because of me. Not like Assiba... I’ll never be able to forgive

myself...

And I’ll never forgive them for what they did...

What’s?...

No... they followed me! Some primals found a way out. The rockslide wasn’t enough to stop

them.

I can’t run the risk of having them get to the surface. I have to

stay here.

Page 6: Wadé : the graphic Novel - preview Opus 1

8

You won’t go any farther!

Page 7: Wadé : the graphic Novel - preview Opus 1

9

They are too many! There are probably more, driven by their

primal essences.

I’ll have to…

I have no choice...

Unleash your power!

10

I can’t imperil the planet. The primals must not

escape from the netherworld. And I… I don’t belong to the human

world anymore. I have to accept that…

I dreamt of leaving this place, to come back home, to see the light of day, and to fill my lungs with fresh air again…

I won’t be a slave to those madmen anymore. I am

tired of being a monster among monsters. My life must end here. Let me go… You too have to accept this final journey.

Freed from this non-life, to rest, at last…

After all this time, I finally feel fear again…

The fear of not dying.

In the land of Bakas*, where occupiers came,From a honky** she gave life to a child.

She showered his flesh with unequaled loveTo the day when a voice visited her sleep.

“When grown, your son will die at war.If you do not listen to me, you will lay him to rest.”

Invoking the spirits, she called for their help:“Occult forces, keep my son from deceasing!”

Within the depth of the Universe, her scream was heardShe launched then upon a forbidden dialogue

And awakened yonder an ancestral forceThat to humans is an abyssal secret.

Witnessing one nigh a ceremony, terror-stricken,the boy flew away, and followed the ocean shore

to Slave Island***.From this daring journey, the child became a brave.

Having reached his aim, he searched for his father,But the time elapsed trampled his hopes.

He found a friend, a learned HonkyWho passed on to him culture and applied knowledge.

One night, as they feasted, the man found a wayTo persuade him to enlist, go away and overcome.

The next day, groggy, he saw the ContinentForever drift away. He was a child no more.

Wadé...

… It’s under this name that we identified him.

According to our sources, he was born in Cameroon, in 1897, from a father in the French Army Intelligence Service, whose name still remains classified “official secret”, and

from a Cameroonese mother…living in a village close to the town of Douala*.

Although his father abandoned the family very early, his childhood was happy until he turned 10.

* Harbour city of Cameroon.
