WA Schools’ Concert Band Festival 2013

INFORMATION FOR BANDS

Holding Rooms Be aware that other groups may require the holding room before and/or after your ensemble - check the Running Order and plan arrival and departure times carefully. The director or school music teacher must be present in the holding room at all times while students are using it. Each room will provide an open space for warming up and tuning. Music folders, instrument cases and equipment should be clearly labeled. Please ensure that no food or drink is consumed in the room. A thorough check should be made before the room is vacated to make sure it is tidy and no belongings have been left. Movement to Stage and Official Photograph (New procedure in 2013 - please read carefully) A Marshall will collect each band from its holding room twenty minutes before it is due to play. Bands will move quietly to the Auditorium at the rear of the Concert Hall where there will be ample time for further tuning before moving on to the Concert Hall stage. The Auditorium will be set in band formation, but will not have music stands. After performing, students will be taken to a room for an official Band Festival Photograph before returning to the holding rooms to collect belongings. Order forms will be available in the official program as well as directly from the photographer. The Performance and Adjudication There will be time to have a very short final tune-up on stage before commencing the performance for adjudication. The adjudicators need time to complete their comments on one piece before the next one is played. A bell will sound when the adjudicators are ready for you to begin each piece. Seating Plan & Equipment The attached seating plan will be used on stage for all bands. The percussion and rear row of seats are on risers at the rear of the stage. An optional conductor’s rostrum will be available. Any additional seats can be added to the basic plan. A keyboard and dual-input amplifier with a single lead will be supplied - additional leads must be provided by participants. Bands will not be permitted to supply their own keyboard/amplifier. Sticks and beaters are not provided for any of the percussion instruments. There is a piano on stage to the conductor’s right, only. It may be a good idea to have final rehearsals at school with this seating arrangement. If, for any reason, your band can’t adapt to this plan please contact Paul Duhig at SIM on (08) 9272 7800 well before the festival. Listening to Other Bands Please encourage students to hear other ensemble performances. Please stress to band members that there must be absolutely no movement in the Auditorium while another group is playing. They may only enter/exit during the changeover period. Festival Admission - $6.00 Adults & $4.00 Concession Performers and directors will be admitted without charge into the Concert Hall. Please invite parents and friends to come along. Programs will also be on sale at the ticket office. A kiosk for refreshments will be open from 30 minutes before the start of each session. Parking Free parking for performers and audience is indicated on the included map – please follow the directions for parking on the Upper Oval on the day. Bus Parking Buses should either park on Lucca Street or drop students off at the venue and then park 400m south on Tuscany Way, where there is more street parking. Please do not contact Churchlands Senior High School about bus parking. Closing Ceremony This will take place at the conclusion of the final session at 6.15pm on Sunday, 18 August. Please ensure that a representative from your school is present in the audience ready to collect adjudication sheets, certificate and recordings on behalf of your band. If you are unable to have a representative present, these items will be posted to country schools, but will need to be collected by metropolitan area schools from the School of Instrumental Music. Full details regarding the festival are available at www.sim.iinet.net.au. Or contact: Paul Duhig ([email protected]) - School of Instrumental Music on 9272 7800; or Chloe Christian ([email protected]) - President of ABODA (WA).
