President & CEO
A 7th Anniversary
Later this month I will officially be marking my 7th
year as the President & CEO of the Greece Chamber of
Commerce. Time sure has a way of flying! I still
remember trekking in for my first day of work on a dark
and cold December day – right in the midst of Open
Enrollment. Seven years later, I sit here and reflect on what
has happened. I’m very proud of what we’ve
accomplished but more than that I’m very thankful. Read
on to see what for…
I’m thankful for a terrific and dedicated staff. I’m
proud to say that we have had very little turnover since
I’ve been here. Sue, Terry and Chris have been here since
my first year. Paula joined us as our full-time salesperson
last year. Kathy and Linda have stepped on this year to
assist. This Chamber could not do all the amazing things
that we do without the dedicated work of this fine group of
women! They love their jobs and that is evident when they
go above and beyond. I’m very thankful for them (as well
as Rae and Ann who worked here also during my tenure)
and all the work they do!
I’m thankful for a supportive and strong Board of
Directors. I’ve been privileged to work with 5 terrific Board
Chairs over my time: Anne Loria (2005-07), Kyle Van Putte
(2007-09), Al Meilutis (2009-11), Paul Chatfield (2011-13)
and now Del Smith (2013-15). They have each done an
exceptional job as the volunteer leader of the organization
providing a steady hand and supporting the growth of the
organization. They were also joined by dozens of
dedicated volunteer Board Members who have helped
guide the Chamber. The Board of Directors is a key body
for any organization and I could not ask for a finer group
of people to work alongside.
I’m thankful for our wonderful Members. To put it
quite simply, the Chamber would not exist without our
Members. Your support at events, programs and in all we
do is second to none. I’m so proud to work with all of you
to help our business community continue to grow and
succeed. Everything we do is aimed at helping you. I
always appreciate hearing your feedback on what we are
doing. Thank you for all your support!
I’m thankful for our dedicated volunteers. Whether
it’s a volunteer chairing a committee or serving water after
our annual 5K, we have a large group of talented
volunteers who help us pull off all the events and
programs that we do! We cannot do this without you and
I’m so thankful that you take time out of your busy
schedules to assist our organization.
Most of all I am thankful for this opportunity
that has been given to me to lead this organization. We’re
in the midst of finalizing our 3rd Strategic Plan since I’ve
been here and I’m excited to share the (cont’ on Page 4)

The E Myth Revisited
by Michael E. Gerber
M ichael E. Gerber has revised
and updated the instant
classic, The E Myth. The book discusses
why many small businesses fail and what
successful strategies are necessary in
making a business a success. He defines the
distinction between working on your
business and working in your business. He does an excellent job
of addressing the relationship that a business owner must have
with his or her business if it is to be a success as well as how one
goes about defining that relationship. The concept of change,
which is a focus through the entire book, plays a vital role in a
continually thriving business and begins with the business
owners willingness to change. Michael covers, step-by-step what
needs to be done to bring your business to that ultimate level.
The E Myth Revisited is a must read for business owners and
anyone considering starting a business!
Michael E. Gerber is the co-founder and Chairman of
Michael E. Gerber Companies, a company that transforms the
way small business owners grow their companies. - Terry Hogan,

YEA! Visits Dairy Queen
The Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) has been meeting since late
October at Bryant & Stratton. This year, we have 14 students
participating in the program. Nine of the students are from Greece
Schools (Athena & Arcadia), three of the students are from Hilton and
two of the students are from Spencerport. The class visited Flower
City Printing for their inaugural field trip in October. Thanks to George
Scharr and his staff for all their work in hosting us! In early December,
the class visited Greece’s new Dairy Queen location on Dewey Avenue.
Owner Mark Goldberg took some time to talk about franchising with
the students and provided some delicious treats for the class. Our
students are hard at work on their business ideas.

through The Mall. The new wing, formerly the location for Bon-Ton, will
now house four new restaurants along the Loft and Chico’s women’s
specialty stores.
